  1. Buddy from WI connected on a nice bear at 9yds from the ground. Said it got as close as 5yds. That type of heart pounding action is awesome. Lots of work constantly baiting but it paid off for him. Couldn't be happier for him.

  2. I got a few pics of this guy last week when he was still in velvet, ~80 yards from a stand. I was wondering if he was using a trail that passed by my stand, so I put a cam by the stand. Got a pic of him and his 3 smaller buddies (still in bachelor group) passing by my stand at 10 yards.

  4. Kind of an interesting comparison. I had a huge buck around 4 years ago, but he was killed. I started getting pics of a good buck this year and his rack characteristics looked very similar to the buck from 4 years ago. I found pics of both bucks at the same angle. I would say there's a VERY good chance that the big buck from 4 years ago is the father of the buck from this year. The buck on the top was the huge one from 4 years ago. The bottom pic is the buck that I've been seeing this year.

  5. Had a few good pics on one of my cams. The dropper definately looks like he's only 2.5, would love to see him next year. The 8-pt. is new and the 10 is a pretty solid shooter... I'm pumped, can't wait for Oct. 1st!!!

  9. Deer frequently stop on their own. It is all part of their defensive gait. The problem is that they may not stop at the right spot. Just a drop of deer urine on the trail will almost certainly catch their attention without alarming them. That allows you to pick the spot where they will stop. I do not like the idea of making sounds to stop them as it almost always snaps their head around with a direct gaze in your direction. Not exactly the best thing for those drawing a bow. It also puts them on "set", ready to "jump the string" when you release. That drop or two of urine is a more natural way of stopping them, that does not raise their alarm system.

  13. If you like beer, you must go to Asheville NC. Awesome city and incredible beer culture! Went to 11 breweries in 2 days. Went to: New Belgium, Wedge Brewing, Wicked Weed, Funkatorium, Bhamari, Hi-Wire Brewing, Twin Leaf Brewing, Green Man Brewing to name a few and the best I went to was Burial Brewing. I Had an IPA or two at every place and the best IPA i had that day (and maybe ever) was the Hawk Bill IPA. I brought some home and also found a local place that sells it and it is an amazing IPA. This would be my go-to if t wasn't $16 for a 6-pack.

  16. The deck is on and the light boards camo painted...some trimming done ..all I have to do is one small end piece and place the blind on it...I found a new rub on a ironwood sapling 30 ft behind it today,,,and fresh droppings..I listened to turkeys talking not far away as I hammered down boards... So there's my project for the season. I now have 4 tower blinds..with this one being for pop ups... Blends in well I think....

  18. Teaching the son the skills for sneaking up on wild native brook trout in small streams can be great fun. He lost a few hooks and finally connected with a beautiful native trout. The frustrating part for him was casting and not putting it into the trees across the brook. He had fun and we limited out with enough for supper..

  20. Muff and hand warmers tucked inside. Very rare I ever wear gloves. Dark to dark in single digits and I'm ok this way. I don't get cold very easily though. Also have a neck warmer that has a pocket in it for a hand warmer. Those two items and I'm good. Bring on the cold Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Its been years since I ran a camera, I've got two out this year and just pulled them. I got a lot of does and a few nice bucks plus a pretty blonde coyote. Between the two cams I think I have most of the bucks both in and out of velvet so its safe to say this was the week for it to come off here

  24. I have a pair like these with the Velcro opening for a release to fit through. Very thin and not much for warmth. When it gets cold it's hand warmers and pockets and maybe I get cold for the important parts. I never wear heavy gloves while hunting unless it's sub zero.

  25. I haven't followed this whole topic, but if you're just looking for something to run around and use for hunting, why not look for a decent older truck? stick with the fancy sports car and get something on the cheaper side for the few times a year you may use it?

  29. This guy just flat out gets it done on bears and big whitetails. This summer he said he wanted to kill a bear from the ground with a recurve. 4 hunts later ..... heart shot from the ground with a recurve. Impressive hunter and really nice genuine guy. Sent me a bow when my bow delaminated.

  35. Of the 30+ deer I have shot with my bow I have stopped 1 he was on a dead run chasing a doe and I had nothing to lose. I yelled as loud as I could after I drew and the second he skidded to a stop he an arrow though him. Other than a nothing to lose situation I will never stop a deer. I avoid shooting at alerted deer at all cost, why the hell would I alert them? If theyre walking at normal eastern archery range a proper lead is very small. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  36. I'm amazed.....my neighbor just called. She went out while in the eye of the storm and checked my condo. No damage other than a tree. She hasn't been inside it yet, but said no broken windows and the roof is fine. The back half isn't as strong so I believe we're going to be fine.

  37. This is what I was afraid of whenever the subject of antler restrictions comes up. The situation described here is basically telling hunters that you will not hunt this year. That is a situation guaranteed to lose even more hunters.

  38. there are investments and then there are expenses for recreation, they are mutually exclusive expenditures. if you buy land for recreation and view it as an investment you'll be disheartened, especially when you sell it and pay capital gains tax. but if you view it as money spent in recreation, like a fine dinner out, or a vacation rental, then you'll see only the enjoyment of ownership/ don't buy the wrong property for the right reason, but if you do buy something for your pleasure see it for what it is, a recreational expense and don't confuse making money with an investment with just plain ol having fun. every new car boat or camper purchase devalues the minute you buy it, but if you consider it rental fee for your fun, you'll be happy while you have it.

  43. The AR program is at best 50/50. We are not seeing the big PA 8 and 10's at 4 yrs. At best basket 6's. We just don't have the mix of genetics and nutrition. Plus the yote's are a disaster. The regional biologists are clueless on doe populations as well. They rely on mail in surveys that I don't even bother filling out anymore.
