  8. Ive had luck rattling this year, rattled in a 4, and a 6 on seperate occasions. This morning had a doe and button buck in early. Then around 815 i rattled in a 4 and a small 6. They came in together and moved off behind me. I rattled again at 9. This time a nice 7 came in i was tempted at first. Had the release hooked up but decided i didnt want him to b the buck that ends my bow season. So i started video taping him on my phone. I got about 1.5 mins of video then he walked off behind me. I look up and a much larger buck is walking in on the same path. Hes already only 40 yarfs out. He works his way in to about 25 yards and crosses behind some trees, i drew back and he walked into a swamp behind me. I took the shot when he was just over 20 yards. Shot looked good but didnt look like it penatrated that much. The arrow fell out after he spun and took off. I thought i saw him drop but wasnt sure. The 7 took off with him and wasnt sure what deer i was looking at. I climbed down after 20 mins, found my arrow that was missing about 5" of arrow and the broadhead. I backed out for 1.5 hrs. Brought my son back to help with the track. I circled around the swamp and picked up blood on the other side. It was a easy track that led to the spot i thought i saw a deer drop. Heavy bases split browtine. Beautiful buck.

  10. Big doe at 7:30 this morn. Shot her and wasn't totally sure but thought it was a good one. So I sat in stand and an hour later another doe and a buck right up her rear end sniffing. I stood up and he went away front the doe and to the left and never saw him again. The doe walked around my stand for half hour. Pee'd in the trail and I thought for sure he would come over. So after like 3 hours I could finally get down and went to where arrow was. I see what might have buggered him . Blood everywhere. So I look up and at 40 yards is my doe dead. Heart punch !! She was dead in 30 seconds. Got two freezer queens. Now it's time to hunt for one with some horns!

  11. Dang...I'm back in couldn't get this cough under control..rotten sinuses...been giving me trouble for 2 weeks now..so I pulled the card...she didn't make it quite into cam range ...but this guys and a big 4 and basket 6 did....Glad I left...don't want to completely mess up that stand.. Going right back out once throat calms down.Heard grunts in the distance before light and I thought I had seen a wht rack going down the trail opposite the stand I was in across the field...dismissed due to size..mind playing tricks... Now now so sure...

  12. Tip #1 If you're gonna be a good mentor, you need to b smart about it. You're gonna need to learn to place ALL the blame on the noobie when things go wrong... and take ALL the credit for yourself when things go right. That should keep you covered until his first kill, and then you can steal his spot, lol

  13. The first buck I ever killed back in '80s came into some Tinks 69 on Cotten balls in a film canister . The years after I must have used gallon with no luck . Today I've used EverCalm and had young bucks come in and lick it , but I'd recommend putting it in a scent wick and talking that when you leave . here's first deer via Tinks

  17. Well, the boss and I arrived safely to NY from Florida. The trip sucked as it poured rain and we are both sick. We need to get up to the cabin and clean it up, cut firewood and scout the area. Plan on hunting Xbow when it opens up. It is nice to be home... and the cooler air feels great!

  24. Bought some of that Evercalm stuff and tried it for the first time after hearing of some good luck on here. Had this doe come in and bed down very close for a while. She got up to move to the field and I double lunged her at about 20 yards. She went about 80-100 yards, got wobbly and tipped over in sight. Cool hunt.

  25. Took another slickhead, she was with a spike. Crap shot caught liver and tracked her after 4 hours. Dead right by the creek where i thought she would be. Time to wait on a big buck now that my freezer is pretty full.

  26. Going to try some 3 blades. 2 blades have worked fine but a little more blood to follow wouldn't hurt either. Wish they were a bit sharper from the package. Got some sharpening to do.

  38. I am curious as to just how much crap can one hunter carry while hunting. Already I hear people complaining about how awkward crossbows are to manipulate through the woods. I know for a fact that hauling arrows and compounds and such can get mighty tiresome after a while. Carry both??? .... Are you kidding?

  42. Measure the "heart girth" just behind the front legs. If you pull the tape snug, it's pretty accurate. 43" will be close to 190# dressed http://www.marylandhuntingquarterly.com/files/Download/HeartGirthChart.pdf

  43. The good news is we have a bunch of law abiding hunters arguing about poorly written laws. The bad news is the poachers would be laughing at this thread , they know they can break all the laws for years with little chance of ever getting caught, then pay a couple hundred in fines and be back at it , if they are ever caught . Ive had the DEC break my balls because I spelled Canandaigua wrong , X off the date in ink instead of cut it out ( which as legal ) and watched them ticket my buddy for taking sunfish off his little daughters hook , because he did not have a fishing Lic. Now mind you he did not have a pole of his own either just putting on worms and talking off sunnies for a little kid . meanwhile the true law breakers could give a crap .

  48. I agree with your thought process. Isn't there someone who makes 357 mag ammo in hardcast. I shoot 220 grain hardcast, from Underwood ammo out of my Glock 20, and it hits animals like a ton of bricks. I agree with the penetration needed. Sent from my SM-G900T3 using Tapatalk This is something like I was talking about https://underwoodammo.com/product/handgun-ammo/357-magnum-180-grain-lead-flat-nose-gas-check/

  49. I have no idea what you're trying to say with the slug/birdshot thing. Either it's your Kindle or you're grasping so far that I can't even draw a correlation between the two. I don't need to answer these questions for you because the birdshot/slug debate is already layed out in the current regulations, which you would know if read them. I wouldn't call it baiting. Because baiting can be effective. As has been repeated over several times now, it is almost pointless as to what the "law" states at this point. If you want to fight the DEC on your dime, knock yourself out. But it's unanimous that it is ILLEGAL or at the very least very highly questionable, by DEC official standpoint.
