  1. After a short stay in the hospital, to have a tumor in my bladder removed. Been following the forum a little here and there, while coming out of the fog of surgery and meds. But I'm back, and doing much better today!! Want to thank those that sent well wishes and prayers, as no doubt they all helped. I ask that the good thoughts and prayers continue, not for myself, but for a couple of others from this forum, who are fighting a much bigger battle than I. Not sure if I'll be able to get back out to hunt this year, but I'd like to, if at all possible. I have a couple spots on our property, that I can almost drive to with my truck or wheeler, for a short sit. Hopefully my grandson will come with me and we start to make memories with the Sako! Take care all. Hold your loved ones a little closer today.

  2. I'm back at it folks. No treestands but I can sit in a blind all damn day if I want. Not bad for having pretty major surgery on 11/13 !! With great friends , who know what getting out means to me, I'm here and they're ready to work. Let's hope that I see a deer. It's been such a messed up season. You never know folks Life is funny, and cruel but beautiful and today, is beautiful 40 degrees, wind in my face. Fresh scrapes 40 yards out. good luck

  6. Manslaughter 2 is recklessly causing the death of another. Shooting a deadly projectile without knowing your target seems to fall squarely in that definition.

  12. I was raised on the deer drive. Def not my first choice but late gun I don't mind a slow walk. Love filling dmps and getting some exercise. I DO NOT push my main spots. Usually just the local farms that have already had pressure. I will say this though, they work. Sometimes it's the only way you can get that mature nocturnal buck on his feet for a shot, or the pile of does waiting for dusk to come out and feed. If I never did a drive again I wouldn't be dissapointed but years like this where my dad only has 1 doe and we rely on meat, I'm going through the thickets to increase his odds ! 27. I never understood why someone would say it's a waste of good meat to cook it like that. Heck it's venison. Cook it the way you like. I know a guy that loves venison burger. He grinds everything. Yep, inners, backstraps, everything. Not a waste if that's the way you like it, and it gets eaten.

  28. Reminds me of my safari into the deepest, darkest Levitra Mountains seeking the source of the remote Wannabanger River, the mystic Viagra Falls... We had a mascot of the safari, a psychotic mountain gorilla named Bobo, who bore a striking resemblance to Mike Tyson.... One night Bobo got drunk on papaya juice and bit off the ears of all of our native packers... Actually, none of them seemed to mind too much except one poor nearsighted fellow who could no longer wear his glasses...

  32. It IS a VERY big story. A woman was shot dead due to the hunter's negligence. Are we that de-sensitized to a person being killed? There should be no surprise this is natuonal news. CNN and the like are riduculously biased against ALL gun owners and will highlight any story, factual or not, to promote the anti-gun agenda. None of us gets to control that conversation. What we can do as a group is to band together and only vote for pro-gun, pro-hunting politicians. Unfortunately, NY gun owners as a whole failed miserably in that endeavor when Cuomo was re-elected with the lowest voter turnout in history.

  33. About 6 years ago a huge corn field was being cut by my camp. I was in an exit area of the cornfield. I saw a few deer but was really cool I saw 6 bear! They all got kicked out of the corn. I think its a good idea to hunt in during the cut and the day after. GL

  34. Easily. I dont care about any of the other circumstances. Shooting hours, private property, none of it. If you shoot someone because you thought they were a deer I want this to be the charge.

  36. I know it's been discussed many times before but why? Why would being in the tree after legal shooting hours be any different than climbing in before legal shooting hours?

  37. The line in the sand others have mentioned can NOT be legislated. Laws will NOT prevent stupidity or make every hunter a clone! It happens when you, as a hunter look in the mirror and determine who you really are and how you will enjoy hunting. During this conversation with yourself, you'll decide your own ethics, right vs wrong, goals or expectations, temptations to avoid and methods to increase your hunting opportunities, while still retaining the enjoyment factor of being in the woods. This process defines who you are as a hunter. I've done this and BTW it's an evolving process for sure. New laws, neighbors, technology, physical limitations, time restraints, changing personal obligations all influence you as a hunter and your evolving ethics. Some other states have hunting ethics or a code of conduct spelled out within that state's hunting regulations. NYS does not, it merely lists what's legal & not legal. One of the other states, interestingly list a line item from its' code of conduct as - attempt to satisfy your hunting goals or expectations, while not trying to influence others. Have also seen a similiar phrase within a national bowhunter's creed!

  41. WE used to play H-O-R-S-E with traditional bows. My good friend shot left handed so he would get under the front of his slide -in camper, cant the bow almost horizontally to the left, and make an easy 10 yd shot. For us right handed shooters it was very very difficult to make that 10 yd shot. It could be done right handed by pinching the nock of the arrow (if you shot split finger style) and twisting the arrow up against the shelf, but if it was a small target like a beverage can, it was still quite difficult. Unfortunately, the way things were situated on his "range", there were no such opportunities for a right handed shot with similar disadvantages for a left handed shooter..

  44. i talk to my uncles and dad who are all in their 60's about this. back in the day a lot less guys treestand hunted and gear wasn't as good so guys didn't hunt as long. This allowed those that were hanging in a tree to benefit from the movers who weren't intentionally driving them. now a lot of guys are educated and all sit in trees tapping on their phones with no deer to be seen lol.
