  1. My friend sent me these pics of buck he got at the Alabama Swamps 8g, said he finally broke the 2017 curse not seeing anything. I haven't been out in over a week, i'm having problems with lower back and it hurts. Have had 5 back surgeries and last 2 were fusions. Looks like my season done. At least my friend scored, he put the time in.

  3. Last gun season watch for me. Took a nice fat doe just before sunset. This one makes a deer with each weapon so far. On to Muzzleloader after I get Back into town next week.

  5. Back home, and feel fantastic, though a little sore! Saw two doe with a fawn each. And a year old, small six point, who will hopefully live to be a two year old eight point next year. The fresh air and sunset was spectacular! Best hunt in a very long time for me. Sleep will come easy tonight.

  7. Figured since it was my last evening of gun season, I’d sit out in the back of our property. Had this nice doe and 2 fawns come out just before sunset. One well placed 150grain Fusion out of my 308 and she dropped after 10 yards. Nice end to gun for me and last deer taken off of our place before we move. Now if I can Just get one more with my muzzleloader, my deer season goal for the year will be complete.

  8. I shot a good doe yesterday morning in Lima. 80-100 yard shot with the (gulp) .243 She went about 20 yards with the top of her heart in shambles, exit side is in the picture...........dressed weight was 115lbs. Hunted last night and this morning for another but nothing doing.

  9. I shot this doe (37" chest girth) today at 2:30 in zone 9F with my Marlin 512 slugmaster and Hornady SST sabot. The shot was to the neck so not much meat will be lost. Gun season had not been going so well, and I had decided to skip this morning's hunt and take our family to church instead. It comes as no surprise that decision has paid off. One way or another, the good Lord has always provided for ALL of our needs. Now our venison supply is secure for the year, with the 60 or more additional pounds (per the PA game commission table) that this fat doe should provide.

  16. I'd guess at 2.5 but there's potential for 3.5. The only REAL way is to see the teeth. Kinda like guessing weight without a scale.....too soon ? Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

  18. You never want to ask a lady her weight, but if I measured their chest girth like wolc insists, then they've all been over 200# ! (Sue me, I like boobs. )

  20. For every big foot believer , there is also one guy trying to,make a better big foot costume , so his buddy can take a grainy distant photo of him wearing it . As for trial, cameras , there is a guy here in Webster that has a Mule Deer pic on his . The camera was in the woods across the road from me , and I brought my Mulli mount over, came in from the side very slowly till " click ".

  21. I got this gun from a guy that owed me some money for work I did, not really sure what it's worth but it's a beauty for sure real happy with it. I ran the serial number and it came back as being made in 1906!! Wow didn't see that coming.

  22. I live in Poughkeepsie. I have a bird feeder going year round in my back yard. I've had 10 pointers in my back yard too. I've even hung a couple of trail cameras to catch the action. Have I ever hunted in my back yard ? No. Will I ? No. Have I ever been tempted ? You bet your ass. But to me it wouldn't be hunting. Should he be ticketed ? Sure....I think a $1000.00 fine would remove the temptation for the next time. For him to lose lifetime hunting privileges would be way too extreme. The guy who dropped a dime better watch his back.

  26. Based on my calculations and the NY BS charts, a 2" exit wound in the right rear arse quadrant of a big doe would result in a 23% loss of meat. I think a complete recalculation of useable meat must be conducted asap. Thank God for Basil Hayden's and Popcorn! Tonight has been awesome! Be well fellow hunters and be safe......

  29. Hmm. I've never seen 100# of usable meat come off any deer I have ever butchered. I'm not gonna blast you, or get all worked up about your "guess" as to what things weigh. Unless you throw in fat and bones and maybe a couple legs, your way off. Now, the only reason I say this is because I use an accurate scale to weigh the dressed deer. I also have a very precise scale used to measure the cuts as they come off. To me, you really can't put a number on weight without a scale. I'd say use terms like "alot" or "a ton" instead of using the pa game commissions measuring scale. Besides, your shooting NY deer so that scale won't work. Just sayin Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

  32. My Dad made these candles I’d guess 50 years ago . A wooden spool that film of some sort came on ( Kodak worker.) Added a base, wired for a flame shaped bulb, painted . They have been rewired , and I painted them again a few years ago. Some day they’ll be in front of one of our kids house .

  33. So we had been on this lease for 3 years and found out about the sale in a round about way. Kind of bummed , we were really getting to know the land and we had already done a bunch of work on it too.Our lease runs out sept 2018 so we will be turkey hunting one more time .i have thousands of acres of state land close to my house so might start scouting that for next years archery season. Thanks for listining to me whine ..

  34. Very simple solution . STEP 1 : Pick a spot that he would beas far away from you as possible STEP 2: Put rubs and scrapes all over the area you want him to hunt ,you know he'll stampede that area and leave your spots alone. You can even text him to say you saw some deer activity over by that area and ask if he saw anything himself . He sounds like a prime candidate for the ol jedi mind trick.

  47. Gun season was not going so well for me, up until this afternoon. My buddy from work wounded a 4-point, just after sunrise on opening day and we spent about 2 hours of "prime time" looking for it. I went back after dark and spent another couple hours with the "bloodglow" looking more with no success. He had dropped it with a single shot, then texted me that it was down, but crawling away. I wish he would have used another shot or two, because the buck got back on its feet and escaped. I suspect he hit it above the spine, which temporarily parallized the back legs. The only live deer I saw, up until yesterday, were a couple of unidentified tails and buts well out of range. Yesterday a 1-1/2 year 6 point offered me a 40 yard shot over at my folk's place at 7:35 in the morning, which I did not take for three reasons: First, he was 10 yards onto the neighbors land and I was not sure he would appreciate it. Second, the shot would have been thru some thin brush which may have deflected my 16 ga foster slug, dropping the percent chance of a clean kill to just about 90 %. Third, I would not mind saving my buck tag for a shot at a bigger one. I was having second thoughts on my decision to skip this morning's hunt and take the family to church instead, as I laid in bed next to my wife and heard a shot ring out next-door at 7:35. After church, I got up a treestand that is on the back edge of a 5-acre woodlot at the back of our farm. At 2:30 pm, I heard something that sounded a little larger than a squirrel, and noted a deer approaching on the other side of a deep ditch. She was moving at a fast trot, and I led her enough to fell her, with a shot to the neck, when she reached an opening. I left the guts in to drag her thru the water and my rope broke as I tried to pull her up the steep bank. I am guessing she weighed about 150 on the hoof. She is gutted and hanging in the garage, bleeding out now. I will check her chest girth to get a more accurate weight estimate prior to skinning her, and post that with a picture in the harvest thread. The Lord was very good to us today, in providing plenty of venison to last until next year, so the last thing I want to do is weigh her on a "dishonest scale". I guess going to church this morning paid off. They are calling for temps in the 50's tomorrow and Tuesday, so it will be in the deer fridge for her. After a week in there, she should be perfect for processing.
