  1. Putting a little spin on the conventional antler burr relief carving. These are really simple and turn out pretty cool once they're all sanded and polished up! Just another idea for those that always asks... "what can you do with deer antlers?". And just a little something for Valen-tines Day!

  3. Ok. I took one for the team tonight. I shot a nice big mature doe with the bow this evening. I stayed in the blind until dark. Saw one more doe and also had a slammer come out at 45 yds just as I was about to get out of the blind. I don't think he was the big 9 or the wide 8 that I've been hunting there. This one appeared to have a bigger body and a lot of mass on his head. I'll be out again tomorrow evening. It might be my last hunt for the year. Unfortunately, the last couple of days, all buck movement has been after dark. I even have what appears to be two small bucks sparring. I'm going to bring my horns with me tomorrow and try to entice one of the bigger deer out of his bed before dark. I'm not sure if it will work this late in the year, but at this point, it's my last chance.

  11. When I was a kid, we had domestic dogs get into our sheep. They ran from one to another killing or wounding one sheep after another with no signs that they were ingesting any parts of them. we later found a neighbor a few farms down that owned the dogs, and the authorities conducted an investigation, and found wool jammed in between their teeth and they were destroyed. I do not recall if the owners were prosecuted for anything at all. With no leash-laws in effect, I doubt that they did. So it is not hunger that causes dogs to chase and kill. It is irresponsible dog owners that do not control their animals along with a borne-in instinct to chase and kill. These dogs were family pets that played with the owner's kids. Very friendly and very well fed animals. We caught them in the act, but had no weapon in hand. Otherwise we would have shot them. No, it is not the dogs fault. It is just something that they will do when given the chance. But in our case, we would have liked to protect our property, and would have done so had we had the chance. If the dog-owners won't keep control of them, we would have solved the problem in a minute if we had the opportunity. It's a shame when the dogs have to pay for the owner's irresponsibility, but the problem needed a solution.

  19. We'll have some cans that are older but we don't eat much canned food at all. Tuna yes, occasional soup but I really don't like canned soup. Misc canned stuff for chili and we don't make that very often. 98% of our vegetables are fresh but once in a while, depending on the meal I like canned peas or or corn. At hunting camp each year I find some dillies......I don't remember what it was (could have been red cabbage?) but this past fall I found something with a 1986 expiration date. On the plus side, a few years ago I found some Crown Royal with a tax stamp dated 1957.

  28. If you haven't seen it, check out the movie "wind River" . Jeremy Renner. Wyoming fish and game guy solves a murder. Based on true story. One of the best movies I've seen in a while and something hunters might be interested in. Guy was a monster with his 45/70.

  29. Son in law and I are going to try to shoot some squirrels this morning at Carlton Hill state land. Presently, every dang squirrel in the village of Alden is out running around... I hope they are moving in the woods. Always see them when you hunt deer and turkey but not so much when you target them! Wish us luck and I hope to be able to post some pics of this adventure!

  30. Nice mixed batch of fish. I wish I had a youngster to drag my shanty yesterday. We went to a new place yesterday and had a long drag out. Come to find out, people were parking about 50 yards from where we were fishing in a little side pull-off that we didn't know about. We did get into a big batch of 10-12 inch perch, with my brother's girlfriend catching the most by being patient while we drilled holes trying to stay on fish.

  31. Just found this online: Just mere days after celebrating our great nation’s independence, Republicans have taken a huge step forward for Second Amendment supports and making substantial changes to New York’s SAFE Act by fortifying an obligatory “memorandum of understanding”(M.O.U). State Senator James L. Seward has pushed for change since the 2013 when the SAFE act was originally sanctioned. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has agreed to suspend plans for background checks for ammunition sales in New York and allow internet sales of ammunition, changing part of the NY Safe Act, according to state Sen. James Seward. “While I will continue to work for full repeal of the poorly crafted, over-reaching NY-SAFE Act, this is a significant accomplishment—and constitutes the only modifications that have been made to this law since it was enacted two years ago over my objection”. Seward has continually stated that the database for ammunition was faulty and "fraught with problems since it was first conceived," and be removing this aspect, it will prevent any future money from being squandered. With the backing and support of Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Jim Malatras, director of state operations, this can only be considered a big win for both the State of New York and for its private citizens. The focus of these changed laid in two parts “The two provisions that will be changed are both related to ammunition. The MOU, which was signed by New York State Director of Operations James Malatras and Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan, puts an end to the portion of the act that would establish a database and require those who purchase ammunition to undergo a background check. It also ends the moratorium on on-line purchases of ammunition”. Below is the link for the full memo http://www.scribd.com/doc/271175351/Mou-Ny-Safe-Act-07-10-15

  36. I'm selling a new M60U Ultralite (Aluminum). It weighs 13 lbs, platform is 24"w x 33"d, and seat is 20"w x 16"d. I took it out of the box and assembled, but has never been used. I'm selling it with a HSS safety lifeline, and the a safety harness. I took a nasty fall from a treestand back in july of 2016 and just don't feel comfortable in hang-ons anymore, prefer ladder stands. I'm asking $160 and I'm location in Homer, NY. Prefer local pickup or may be able to meet somewhere. Can contact by email, text, or cell. [email protected] or 607-745-0260. Thanks John
