  5. I think your congressman could just give you lip service maybe get a chuckle; this is a State issue, not Federal. You want your State Assemblyman, State Senator(Gillibrand and Schumer won't care they're Feds) and the folks already listed in this thread. There is a finder right on State website for your State reps.

  6. "Would you happen to know what month of the year it is?" "No, I... I truly wouldn't. I'm sorry pilgrim." "March. Maybe April." "March maybe, I don't believe April." "Winters a long time going, huh?" "Ha.... yuh." "Stays long this high. March is a green, muddy month down below. Some folks like it. Farmers mostly."

  17. Then: · On December 14, 2012, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred in Newtown, Connecticut. · On January 15, 2013, the New York State SAFE Act was passed into law. · So some 32 days after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Governor Andrew Cuomo had his SAFE Act passed in response to Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. · Result was more useless gun control enacted and school safety has NOT improved. The SAFE Act, like the majority of gun control legislation has been proven to have made little effect, if any on gun violence. Now: · On February 14, 2018, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting occurred in Parkland, Florida. · On March 14, 2018, Governor Cuomo lies on the ground to played dead in a gun violence protest. · So some 33 days after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting all Governor Cuomo has done is play dead at a protest. · Result was Governor Cuomo has NOT made schools safer. Does anyone believe Governor Cuomo will order the following “sensible” (that is the word feel good word the gun control addicts use to trick gun owners to believe gun control works) school security actions: · Assign an armed officer at every school? · Have all school entry points hardened to prevent un authorized entry? · Allow legally qualified and properly trained school staff members to carry concealed weapons? · Hardened access to areas where large numbers of student congregate like bus pick-up/drop off locations to prevent a killer from driving a vehicle as a weapon to run students down? · Issue to all school staff a quick communication device like a medical alert that is hooked in to the school guard AND local law enforcement if they see or encounter an armed intruder? Personally I believe Governor Cuomo is working on SAFE Act II and NOT on school security. End result, nothing changes to keep our children safer. More “Gun Control” is best explained with the true statement that “Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results”.

  18. My neighbor passed away this morning, the older gent I shoveled for. He was up there in age and suffered from Parkinsons. I didn't know him very well, but still sort of a feel a loss. Just talked to his son, gave my sincere condolences, and told them if they need anything to let me know. He thanked me for helping his dad out with things. Not trying to sound sappy, but I always feel a sort of emptiness for a while after some I know personally passes. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends were sent. RIP.

  22. Why would you oppose? Why do you care what other people hunt with? Did you oppose the use of compound bows over long bows? Did you oppose rifles over shotguns? A compound bow will far out shoot a X-bow anytime & aren't we hunters supposed always go for a quick, clean kill to show respect the animal? That's the way I was brought up. I don't get the opposition at all. jmo.

  24. kind of late to the party and not sure I can add much worth to what has already been said here by some of the folks that have posted. my take on hunting mature bucks is basically a combination of certain points of a number of the notes posted here. I use trail cams very little and in my experience I generally get maybe 1 cam pic of a certain mature buck and then never again and I don't check cams more than once a month. I do far more long range scouting preseason, I am a firm believer in holding your cards close to your chest. I have said many times that once a buck reaches 4.5 yo you are hunting a totally different creature than a 1.5 or 2.5 yo buck. many times you only get 1 or maybe 2 chances at him and if you get sloppy in your approach of the hunt you may likely not see that buck again or you may never see him if he busts you before you get to actually put eyes on him. what I mean by a sloppy approach is poor stand placement, not paying attention to the wind and thermals, how you approach and exit your stands, how many times you hunt a stand, clearing shooting lanes, hunting too open of an area, scent control, use of scents. All these things in combination can and or will help or hinder your success rate. once you are on a mature buck the first thing you must do is keep your mouth shut, hate to be blunt but with the antler craze of today and the technology of today its easy for internet scouter and even "friends" to find out where you are hunting. this means don't tell anyone no matter how innocent the person may seem, that person could just innocently tell someone and it can snowball from there. your chance of success increases dramatically if YOU are the only one hunting a particular buck. Hiding your vehicle, getting dropped off, hunting dark to dark after being dropped off. some may scoff at this statement but when you are known to kill mature bucks and or turkeys other hunters WILL watch for your vehicle. Patience, not only patience in the stand but more importantly patience to wait until the conditions are RIGHT to hunt that particular buck. believe me I used to be "that" guy that hunted every available minute of every single archery season and spent hours and hours in the woods scouting. still killed bucks but not mature bucks. the last 10 years I have become far more patient, far more days not hunted....I am not gonna lie its tough to set out days but the rewards for me have been far greater in my patience. As has been said your first set in a stand is often times your best chance to connect. As far as stands go, I have very few in open hardwoods or along field edges, if you can not get in or out without getting busted your finished before you begin. if you want to see great distances in open hardwoods well the deer can see you as well. use terrain and cover to enter and exit. I love hemlock trees for stands, if not available I pick multi trunk trees, if neither is available then a tree suitable to get up 30-40 feet. I do NOT clear shooting lanes, most of my stands are 10 yards or less shots, remember you are in THEIR home, if I came in your house and moved your kitchen table how soon would you realize it was moved? It blows me away to see a stand in the woods and for 30 yards around it the person has cut down every single piece of brush. If I notice it as a passer by don't you think the deer that live there will notice it? scent control, some people scoff at it but its in my opinion one of the bigger factors in success or lack of, while true we will never ever be 100% scent free we can do things to help minimize our scent. while scent control practices is a whole long note in itself I will just say that in correlation with first time success at a stand has a lot to do with scent saturation. human scent lingers LONG after we exit the woods no matter how well we think we do on scent control, the more times you visit a stand the more scent you leave behind to tip off the deer.

  29. This is just the beginning of the BS the anti gun crowd plans to implement. And when you are denied a new gun for any of these made up rules, you not only get denied the new gun, you soon receive a letter telling you to turn in all of your firearms. That's why the state had you register them.

  44. I have used most all of them for that purpose at one time or another. Keep in mind any cartridge/handgun barrel length for dispatching game must be legal for hunting with, even if just for dispatching, For dispatching, I am assuming an animal that is down, and you are just planning on finishing it off. anything from a .38 special with wadcutters up will do. I have always just walked around behind it and shot it at the base of the skull. The problem with larger calibers/ magnums, is shooting near the ground and close up to an animal you get ALOT of ground blast back at you, with the potential, if you aren't careful, very messily blowing the had apart. A very long time ago I came to the conclusion it was much easier, efficient and practical to just finish off with my rifle. After going through this phase, so will you.

  46. Made it up North for a few days, there is maybe 10-12 inches on the ground with slush and mud under. The lakes and streams are opening up and some snowmobile trails are flooded I was told by groomers I ran into to. There has been a winter of ongoing "yo-yo" temperatures and melting conditions. Saw lots of typical deer activity in the normal wintering areas.

  47. After a few week break I decided to take a vacation day yesterday and go do some crow hunting at the farm we picked up this year. Let me tell you, this was one for the books! Got set up by sunrise and as soon as we heard the first crow sound off, we had a constant wave of singles and doubles dropping in to check us out. We stayed quiet, just responding w some light hand calls as needed. I ended up going 8 for 8 in the first hour! We didn’t even use the foxpro caller until noon, which by then we figured we had around 17. Of course we had some that hopped away and a couple that we hit and watched fly a few hundred yards before falling but we were on fire! The wind picked up for a few hours but playing two foxpro’s on high volume running crow fight (10 minutes on, 15 minutes quiet) helped us call in a handful in crappy conditions. The shooting definitely got tough in the high wind. From 4 to 5 o’clock the wind calmed a lot and we caught the groups heading back towards their roost and the shooting was hot again. We knocked down about 9 in that last bit of time just running dueling crow fights w the foxpros. Shattered our previous record of 18! One thing worth mentioning was that as we killed a few crows, we’d go out and set them up and incorporate them into our decoy set. We have about 9 decoys and 1 scout that we start w but we found that the more dead crows we used in our setup, the easier it was to get them to drop in...even in the high winds Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
