  1. I am excited about this. Bought an 07 prairie 360 4x4 this afternoon. Stupid clean, barely used, it was my dad's neighbor. We know it was barely used, since we can see his house from my dads. They are like brothers, so everyone wins. He plowed his driveway about 3x. I plan to use it at home, and at our camp upstate. My current 220 Bayou, ois obviously too small, but did its job. This machine I plan to bring to northern Maine in August to explore the trails. I have been going to Maine for about 12 yrs npw, and never had a machine decent enough for trails that get remote. There is honestly not much point in this thread, other than to share my excitement. This is not me on the quad by the way. I will bring it home one night this week.

  4. One of the few skills I have left, to impress my wife, is my driving skills! Slipping and sliding in snow, pulling into tight parking spots, backing a trailer, avoiding distracted drivers, not having an "incident" in close to forty years. That is a source of pride for me! Driving is one of the things, I'd rather just do myself!

  7. As stated in the article, with less hunters contributing to conservation funds, the impact will be felt from many sides. Not just hunters. With hunter numbers declining, where will the funds come from? To keep conservation efforts to the levels, they are now, you will need future input, from all sides. Not just hunters. It will take cooperation from both the hunting and non hunting public. This will take a level of understanding, not often seen, from both sides today. The future of hunting, as we currently know it is in question. There can be no denying that. With more leaving than coming into it, recrutement is the key to keeping our traditions alive and growing. Mentoring new hunters is the way to accomplish this. Young or old, if we each took the time, to mentor even one new hunter, and have them pass it along. The future of hunting 'AND' conservation, will continue to coexist. That benefits everyone. Be a mentor. Pass it on.

  15. I dont think you and I can discuss this anymore. You're arguing over the ethics of hunting with another hunter and that's not what we're even talking about. We're talking about loss of revenue to our conservation fund as hunting declines. He discussed a multitude of reasons why hunting is declining. We've had this debate on here hundreds of times. Land access, less family structure, urban sprawl, video games, youth sports etc. And you find no issue with that part of the article. But YOU are blind if you don't think anti-hunter sentiment isn't also part of the decline. Look at the trashing people get now on social media. He then mentions that some movements have pushed some traditional non-hunter demos towards hunting free range animals, but more and more are apt to just buy it at a store than are apt to pick up a bow or gun. I mean, I don't know how you can debate this. Hunter numbers are down and all of us know it. anti-hunter attitude is just a part of it and certainty should be included in the article. If I took anything away from this, it's a call to arms for more people to get interested in hunting and for non-hunters to realize that all these beautiful places they enjoy have been and are currently funded by hunters. And that we need to find ways for non-hunters to help carry the load too. Note that a non-hunter isn't always an anti.

  18. You're not even close. Look at the numbers in the High Peaks area alone and they are having serious problems with over use. Heres just a sample or registered 46ers http://www.adk46er.org/pdf/Roster_Statistics-as-of-3-7-2018.pdf Through the 90's and early 2000's there were around 200 a year.......last 3 years over 500, 700, 700 for EACH year. I'm in a bird club that had around 25-30 active members; now its easy over 100 in last couple years. Had to find a new place to meet. On the moral deal..... I tell you I'm going to shoot a deer and feed a family; most folks would have no issue, even those on the fence over hunting. Say I'm going to kill an elephant and even though I fed 200 , there are plenty of even hunters who take a different moral attitude.

  19. dude... your reading skills are lacking. None of that was said. He stated that some are morally opposed to hunting. This is fact. He stated that bird watching and hiking participation is on the rise. fact. Then he mentions a proposed solution whas been to tax tents, binos, camping gear etc. but that it was shot down by the retailers. you need to read this with an open mind. take your filter off.

  20. I feel like none of you read this article at all, you're reading a headline and one quote. It's a good 5 minute read. Read the whole thing. There is zero anti-hunter propaganda here. It is simply talking about the threat to conservation as hunter numbers dwindle. It actually points out that decreased license sales may lead to more drilling and endangered species. geez guys

  30. My Outback has eyesight technology, I can take my hands off the wheel and it’ll drive down 490 by itself, going around curves and staying in the lane. It will brake if it gets to close to another car and it’s cruise will match the speed of the car ahead . The big issue is the cameras need to be able to see the lines on the road ,so snow or worn lines mean not everything works . Im not sure sure at this point I’d be for driving cars. However EVERYONE now is on their phone while driving ,being up high in a truck I can see down into cars and it’s every very common ,also when I leave the gym in the morning cars are lined up to get into the high school , every kid is on his phone . When I respond to accidents it’s more and more that either the other driver will claim or even sometimes the driver them self’s will admit to being on the phone , so something will need to change , put down the phone or let the car drive it self .

  34. We have a couple of our NY QDMA branches that are picking up our National program call Field to Forks. It is an initiative to recruit adults and get them into hunting for the first time. The focus is on the growing group that wants to know where their food is coming from while trying to avoid things like hormones in the meat. We will be recruiting, training, educating, getting them through a hunter safety course, taking them hunting and teaching them to field dress, process and cook the venison. Hopefully we can identify individuals that are interested but don't have a clue how to take the first step. I guess if you didn't have a history with hunting it could be a pretty daunting undertaking without help. In our branch I want to set a goal of 6 people this year. Certainly won't turn the tide but it would be nice if more folks would reach out to new folks and get them into it.

  35. Well what kind of guns were in there or anything good?

  36. i dont think its mostly because the parents dont hunt. My buddies each have quite a few kids and out of 10 kids only one is interested in hunting at all. I just think there are so many options out there today. And technology is more prevalant and cool. Kids get more looked down upon some to be hunters, kids fit in better with peers that are into technology. Parents are also more open to letign kids do what interests them than the old .... the whole family is going. I think kids with parents that hunt def have a better chance of becoming interested in it but dont think its the major cause of any hunting number decline as much as a culture change .

  37. Youngsters aren't into hunting, due to the fact their parents don't hunt. They are more into computer games, cell phones, TV etc. Then you have older guys getting out of the sport. Without any new young hunters coming in and older guys leaving there is the issue. Another sad fact is their are many more guys getting older than youngsters coming in, and I can see how that will pan out in the end. Very sad indeed.

  40. "State wildlife agencies and the country's wildlife conservation system are heavily dependent on sportsmen for funding. " That is not fake news. I understand that the New York conservation fund picks up half the cost to fund DEC officers. That definitely qualifies as "heavily dependent on sportsmen for funding. " Many streams with fishing rights are funded by the conservation fund, for fishing only, but others use these locations for non-fishing activities. So what "far left news" are you referring to?

  43. Look if she wanted to meet me , she could just ask to “work in “ . I’v been ok , my wife’s little Pontiac got hit by a small woman driving a big suv at BJ’s. She was pulling out of her spot and crashed our fender, headlight area, one of the first things she said was, “I told my husband this was to big for me .” After that I talked to a few guys who’s female family members did the same thing . I did get hit once at the gym, but I didn’t see who pulled out next to me so I can’t speak to the size , I also avoid parking by big cars as they have large doors and women are all struggling with bags ,yoga mats , and kids.

  44. Tonight the wife and I made venison stir fry. Venison steaks and tenderloins. Then broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, onions, carrots, cabbage and celery. Then she made a teriyaki sauce with minced garlic, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, orange juice, brown sugar. Then let simmer down. Her and the boy with top it over rice. Ill eat it plain without rice. Pics to follow when done.

  47. I'm not going to get in the middle of family feuds. But if you want to one-up them consider an EarthCruiser. Here's one for 265,000.00 http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/190839-2015-EarthCruiser-EXP-21-200-miles-265-000-00 They do have a rabid following. I think the last year of FJ Cruisers (2014) are going for more money than list. There's a reason that the only vehicles you see in the harsher terrain of Africa, Asia or Australia with 300K+ miles are Toyotas.
