These are from the pond in the yard, less than 100 feet from the house. No wood ducks yet. The pond freezes many nights. The woodies might be a bit late. Hooded mergansers have been around for a while. I always like the territorial conflict. The hoodies in conflict in the one shot had a heron in the background.6 points

Woodies have been buzzing around my work in Clarence for a couple weeks too. Almost (not really) get sick of hearing all the big Canadian Honkers all morning at work too. What I do like is when they come in low and kinda' slow; I pull the imaginary SBE stoked with a stiff load off 3.5" magnum loads and dust 2 and sometimes three birds with one well placed shot. Then I close my eyes and old Jenny comes out of Dog Heaven for the retrieval. Ahh, imaginations and memories are a wonderful thing.........5 points

The real HARD part, no matter what you hold in your hands, is getting within 20 yards of a deer. Trad, compound, or crossbow, doesn't matter.3 points

I know NY's Legislature is pretty much FUBAR, but you can't possibly believe that a casual hunting forum poll of 88 votes is what they would use to justify going full inclusion. No way. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.3 points

Early bow season not all it's cracked up to be anyway you got bugs and tics still around it can be very warm still you still got leaves and brush every thing is twice as thick you can't see nearly as far to even take advantage of a crossbow in many places . You xbow guys are lucky you got it in at the right time of year for them really . I think You already won3 points

My son in law was in Elton Creek yesterday afternoon fly fishing and heard a ruckus and splashing.... He turns to see whats going on and a black bear had run from the woods on the side of the creek and crosses the creek and took off, running the whole way. The bear crossed upstream about 100 feet from him. Scared the crap out of him lol Just thought I would share that... I never saw a bear in NY.... PA, yes, but not in ny.2 points

Of course a release is a trigger (well most have one). What is your point. You still need to draw, hold back a compound, line up peep and sight, no resting the stock That all makes the compound more difficult than a crossbow. Hence my statement that in terms of difficulty of shooting accurately, crossbow is easiest, followed by compound and then trad bows. Arguing otherwise makes one look foolish in my opinion and I will leave it at that. And that’s coming from someone that prefers trad bows and supports full inclusion of crossbow. But if you have convinced yourself that crossbows are more difficult to shoot, so be it.2 points

you will see similar statistics promoting gun regulations. A majority isn't always right. That is why we elect leaders.2 points

I went out shed hunting this morning around 9:30am and I got into the hardwoods and 2 gobblers started hammering, I could hear a pile of hens clucking almost nonstop for half an hour so I started creeping toward them hoping to get a few strutter pictures. I started hearing hens real close so I tucked into the shady side of a tree and out came 7 hens, no gobblers. Over the course of an hour they fed up to 20 yards from me while in blue jeans and a hoodie, I got a few pictures off, the gobblers went the other way with other hens as they continued to go crazy. I later jumped the same group of hens out of goldenrods 300 yds away. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk2 points

The DEC doesn’t need anymore surveys, they have a couple and got the same results and believe it or not they can use statistics from a smaller sample size to learn what a larger survey will result in. They are well past the survey stage, and not all 600,000 licenses sold deer hunt, bow hunt, or give a rats ass about crossbows. Why waste time on another survey to get the same results. Again, it is up to legislators to get this done not the DEC.2 points

Well it has nothing to do with the DEC so Why would they need a small poll? We hunters decided we need lawmakers to decide our fate a long time ago.2 points

Took a different way down the hill on the way to work this morning as we see more wildlife off of those roads, and were hoping to see some early riser turkeys. It's a crummy phone pic, and early light to boot, but there are 41 deer in this field, and was not the only field like that. It's about 4 miles down the hill, and my wife quit counting when she hit 200. I'm guessing we saw close to 250 deer before we got down to the highway. No turks though. And for the past three years it's almost impossible to get a doe permit unless it's a landowner's tag.1 point

I always follow clover with corn, because it uses the nitrogen that has been stored up in the soil by the clover to make a decent. Purple top turnips would also utilize that nitrogen and would be be my second choice. The turnips would be my first choice, if you have a lot of coons, which would destroy a corn plot of that size by the end of September.1 point

Like to see some actual "I flew with my $1500 worth of bow to my once in a lifetime hunt" reviews; rather than " took my uber cool ar 15 and all the cool crap going to a range" reports on amazon. I had some kind of tractor/fork lift/conveyor mark on my Pelican 2 years ago. Have no idea what happens to this stuff once in airport bowels and out of sight.1 point

They run all the cable or rope off the winch then take one of those flat tow straps and wrap it around the winch drum 3 or 4 times then use the hook end on the plow. Something like pictured below except with a tow strap not a ratchet strap. Could use one of those boat winch straps if you you wanted. Basically the tow strap acts as the consumable instead of your winch rope or cable. The AmSteel is super strong and abrasion resistant but it will eventually start to fray similar to a cable. I would rather tear up cheap $10 tow strap than my cable or rope.1 point

Totally understand you points, but also take into consideration, the poll here does not break down the detail that the Senators does. His original question shows 66% support expansion, and 19% oppose. Yet 52% support full inclusion and 29% support DEC regulation with separate "Traditional Archery" season which adds up to 81% support some form of "Expansion" although only 52% support full inclusion. The purpose for posting the Senators poll is because people here said this poll means nothing to legislators. I merely posted another poll from a Legislator that shows the numbers are not exact, but trend in the same direction. If the DEC was permitted to regulate as they should, Full Inclusion would have already been here as indicated in their 5 year deer palns and also in their NYS DEC Department requested Bill S53011 point

I'd go out. You may find they are still flocked up. But youth is next weekend and may is right around corner. Owl hooter is a good call, but iv'ed used elk bugles, dog whistles and the horn on my Honda 50 moped to locate birds.. if they don't answer one they usually.will answer another. The key is being able to hear as many times the birds will sound off as you are blowing a locator.1 point

That's a valid point, I wonder if DEC will ever adjust the season due to the weather changes. I mean we have 80 degrees during archery season in September and 32 in April, that does affect animal movement and things. Everything seems to pushed forward and we losing some days in the woods this way... just saying.1 point

I put this one on this year for plowing. Just got tired of screwing around with the cable. So far so good. Used it all winter on a 4' plow with no problems or breaks. It is supposed to have a 4700lb break strength but have not put it to a real test yet. $20.00 on sale or with a coupon at harbor freight. https://www.harborfreight.com/atvutv-synthetic-rope-fairlead-kit-63139.html1 point

Dear Jeffrey, The Assembly Majority helped pass an on-time budget that restored funding to the essential programs and services that millions of New Yorkers rely on. It did not include language to expand crossbow hunting. As always, public participation remains vitally important to the Assembly. Your input is a valuable resource that helps me to better serve our state. Sincerely, Speaker Carl Heastie1 point

For me it would have to be more specific... One close friend of mine is the best turkey hunting tactician and woods caller I have ever known...If I wanted a specific gobbler knocked off, he is the person I would send to do it.. Another friend is the best offhand rifle shot I have ever seen..At 100 yards he can stand flat footed and blow a hole in a hummingbird as big as your fist.. I probably hold the title for being the most successful one-horn spike buck shooter in the state.. It goes on and on...1 point

Seems you need to do your homework before calling people out. The governors desk is in Albany it's in a little building called the the state capital building. Second of all the crossbow full inclusion bill #S1386A S7508 B part KKK are bills brought to the senate by senator gallivan. These bills failed to reach the senate floor for vote. Therefore would not have made it to the governors desk in the State Capital Building in Albany NY! Now back to regular scheduled programming!1 point

I agree with all of this , I would much prefer to,use my compound, it’s just lighter ,more mobile . I’ve kept in “shape,” I can deadlift for reps 100 pounds over my weight , bang out some chin ups , use the stair machine with a 45 pound weight vest , work with 80 pounds of gear on . But my shoulders can’t draw a bow anymore , heck they hurt putting on and taking off a coat , I wish it was just a matter of keeping in shape.1 point

You are so full of crap my screen even smells after you type.. I showed everyone both ends of that BOLT and was unanimous a crossbow bolt. Then you refused to take a pic of your quiver cause I had the evidence. Keep doing what your doing cause one day one of your families meals that they count on you for will be on my side ... But you will probably just let it walk cause that's what slobs do... God bless1 point
