  1. I have three personal friends (and a couple on here) that are battling cancer. Late today I got some very good news.......one of the three who has prostate prostrate cancer that has spread to his abdomen went for a CT scan last week and saw the doctor today. The tumor has shrunk after hormone treatment for the last few months and his PSA was under "1". Far, far from being out of the woods I know but it's good news regardless. I'll get some more information tomorrow on the situation but for now it's a glimmer of hope. Bottoms up if you imbibe......

  4. grew up camping pretty much all summer. My Mom and step Dad had a fifth wheel huge camper and were just so into it and my Dad had a camp in Lewis county. Had fun at all the places for sure but I will never own a camper. By the time you buy the camper, the vehicle to pull it, pay for a site (which now have become very expensive) , the towing, all the stuff you need, the setup of everything, then winter storage and flushing the lines etc etc..... just a Pita ! Then you park in a campground that has someone next to you that has 3 dogs 6 kids and 4 coolers of beer ( and they dont share) . Much rather just pull up to a rented cabin with your food and stuff and have a vehicle to get around in or pull a boat with. Can rent a camp for a whole week somewhere and actually save money and be comfortable and have a shower etc. Had lots of good times camping but also lots of rainy days where you couldnt do much and were stuck in a damp camper. But learned a while back to rent your fun and that making camper payments in Feb sucks! lol The camp was way better and nowadays renting a camp or house somewhere is just the way to go. With the vacations rentals available in so many spots the options are endless. As adkhunter^ said above - "a lot of people buy these things, use them a handful of times and never use them again" - cause they realize its more work and money and less vacation.

  6. About 6 months ago my 14 year old daughter came to us for a conversation. She wanted to change teams and league. She was playing D1 EDP league soccer. Her goal was to play for the top league in the country ECNL Elite Clubs National League. She gave her reasons and we gave our blessings. She worked hard training by herself at home 30 minutes a day. She has a personal trainer 1 time a week. I actually caught her pulling a tub full of fire wood around the backyard in the snow training. Well tryouts ended and she got the call that she made the team. I'm so proud of her and her aspirations! I'll be traveling all over the country with her and so looking forward to it! FL

  7. Decided to do a small raspberry garden for archer ,since he could eat his weight in raspberries . Probably get 6 bushes in there once they get delivered . It ended up being 4 x 15 and some uprights to run rope across for support.

  10. That’s funny. We used to fish for Lakers in niagara river. Ran out of power bait eggs and caught fish on dandelion heads.

  11. There is absolutely no doubt, that a lot of fishing lures, were more designed to catch FISHERMEN, than FISH! I've caught fish on a $15 Rapala, and just as many on a look alike $1.50 bargain box lure on the same day. I have literally thousands of $ in lures and tackle. Only perhaps 40% gets used, or catches fish with any consistency. A bunch of those lures did exactly what they were designed to do. Catch me! But I sure did enjoy trying out each and every one! That said, on any given day, you could blindly just pick ANY lure and head out on the water and catch fish with it. There are also days where no matter how hard you try, you do poorly. And other days where the fish just seem to jump on ANYTHING ya throw out there.

  13. I used to belong to a forum dedicated just to these builds, I forget the name . love camping, lived a week at a time out of a backpack, then tent camped with our kids, parents gave us their 24 foot Sunline ( the fun line ....) we gave it back . We didn’t have a two vehicle and I sure wasn’t going to drop the coin on one just to camp a few times a year . We did use theirs for awhile though . Today since since I retired we considered getting one again , but Frankly with my Outback getting 33 mpg highway and Airbnb, and state park cabins we find that much easier all around and cheaper , then the cost of a tow vehicle and trailer , looked at class B’s, no way Jose . I rented a house in Fla for part of the winter , $85 a night,. And I don’t have to,tow or drive the damn thing ..... To the OP as a kid my family went cross country twice with a pop up, and they were nothing like the ones of today , you’ll do,fine with whatever you pick .

  15. I purchased a 2017 Heritage Glenn. It’s 30 feet with three bump outs and has a bunk house for the kids. We purchased out of state from Ohio Rv Wholesalers and saved considerably on the price. We probably take it on four to five trips a year and I use it all of hunting season.

  19. This gun may very well shoot moa or better. I really haven’t spent much time with it yet and was sighting it in off the back of the truck on a sandbag. We shall see.

  20. You can buy them off the shelf that will shoot sub-MOA, or you can build one (AR15) for $800 or less, depending on how you source parts. An upper with a good bull barrel, free float handguard, and everything else can be pretty standard. An AR10 is going to cost a bit more. Ill put money down that Moog can have his rig shooting sub-MOA with the right bullet and load combo.

  22. Awesome info guys! Really do appreciate it all. For us we have no kids but plenty of friends to stay with us, we have a truck that's capable of towing the majority of campers, and really set on a tow behind. The reason we're doing this now is so that we can travel mostly around the state and close border states together on weekends and for a few week vacations. Storage is not an issue luckily as I have plenty of space in a friend's storage lot. I ducked out of work early and looked at some. One that sticks out is a 32 foot bunk house made by keystone with three slides. Price is decent (don't want to spend a fortune) and the fit seems right. We will be back later together to talk about it and look at some more.

  23. I called in a bear two days in a row while turkey hunting in the Catskills yrs ago. I was calling and filming a couple of friends and heard a noise behind me. Luckily I was nestled into a down tree so the bear had to go around the top to get closer to me. That's when I spotted him at 12 yrds. Pucker factor was definitely enhanced. Lol

  24. I've shot plenty of AR type rifles, so I definitely have a "clue." Some of the better ones can hit sub-MOA performance. Others can't. Same applies for bolt guns. The difference is that it is a lot easier, and cheaper, to consistently wring sub-MOA performance out of a bolt gun.

  25. My dad, and I always camped as well growing up. We started with a 70s canvas tent then a $200 beatup 1970 starcraft popup. We fixed it up together as an additional way to spend even more time together. So we did, and used it for a few years. We used to go to Mongaup Pond in the Catskills almost every weekend. We then sold it in 2003, and my dad bought a brand new Coleman Sedonia(i believe that is the spelling). For some reason my dad could not stand that new popup, so after one season, he sold it the following spring, and bought a 24 or 25ft sunrise I think the brand was, but not sure anymore. That was a good camper, and at this point we started leaving it on a site as a seasonal. We used that trailer until 2009, where he ordered a new 2010 Cougar 5th wheel 27 footer this time with a slide out. He searched long, and hard, for the floorplan he wanted, and we went to shows, and numerous dealers, for the correct choice. He still has the 5th wheel today, but for the past 4, or 5 years he has not done the seasonal site setup. I agree with tow ratings, and tongue/pin weights, etc. Even my dads trailer says "1/2 ton towable" he has had a 3/4 ton with 4.10 gears in his past two trucks, with rear airbags, and he thinks its a bit much for the 3/4 ton....so use your own judgement as well. I tent camp myself with my girlfriend, and we have a real nice setup, but being I have tent camped for years, and years, I am at some point going to buy a small cargo trailer. Plan is to stepup to a UTV, so with a cargo trailer, I can convert that into a small toyhauler. We travel 500 miles up to Northern Maine every summer, so lightweight, and nimble would be ideal. Also, if you think there is a possibility of doing the seasonal site setup, sometimes it make more sense money-wise to buy a little weekend camp of your own. We did this, and taxes on the cabin, and land, are about a third of the seasonal site rate in our area....I am grown up now, so my dad, and I just want to be left alone in the woods to disconnect from the ways of the world. If you have kids, or plan to, then obviously a family type campground is a good thing for the kids. Just throwing out a bunch of ideas. Just think, think, think, before making a decision.

  26. From one of my other cams, it seems the coyotes are following the adult does around looking for their fawns. I got many pictures of coyotes walking only seconds behind adult doe according to the time stamps. Neither of the 2 were running. Seemed just casually walking along..

  29. Where on Champlain? I'm headed up there around noon today to stay at my buddies camp for the weekend. Its on the south bay end of the lake. This will be my 3rd weekend up there in the month and a half, so far each time we go we've been doing quite well on the pike and bass. Caught a few good sized cats as well. If ya see a 17ft bass tracker with 3 guys doing more beer drinking than fishing thats probably us! haha!

  30. Just to clear things up. Ill give a little background. I was in the marines from 03-09, i was platoon high shooter in boot camp, i was consitently one of the best shots in my company. I was a designated marksman in iraq for my platoon in 2005. I trained with our company gunny, who prior to coming to us was a sniper. Ive shot the 5.56 out to 625 yards. I dont currently handload, but i will. My rifle likes the hornady black 123eld-m. Ive shot a best group of .56 moa at 300 yards with the ammo. I completely understand that 1000 yards is a whole new game for me. I trust my abilities to shoot at distance and i have faith in the rifle and round. So with that being said i appreciate all the feed back and am anxious to learn from anyone i can.

  32. I once had a swordfight underneath a junked car with a porcupine, using an 18" Japanese bayonet that my Dad brought back from WWII... Probably one of the stupidest things I have ever done....I emerged without losing my eyesight , due to luck and being young and able to backpeddle quickly on my belly.... I do believe that alcohol was involved...

  38. No, I didn't think they were the same deer. I may have a pic of the tumor deer from a previous year, or at least one just like it. I'll have to scour some old pics to find it tonight. I think I posted the old pic here before, but was probably a casualty of photobucket.

  39. www.rvwholesalers.com Do not buy a camper without checking this place out first !! You'll have to put in your phone number most of the times so they text you the price but they will destroy any price on a camper you will find in N.Y. or any rv show price . My parents bought there last 2 campers from them . They are in Ohio but will deliver or you can pick up . The wife and I are really looking at the Rockwood roo 21SS ,it' a hybrid with double fold out beds and a single super slide ,colton rv wanted the same price for a 5 year old one as this place was asking for a brandnew one.

  40. If you never hurt yourself or broke something by accident being young and dumb, you must of been a true lump on a log. My son got his head stuck between the rails on my FILs deck and I had to cut him out. Does that make my son a terrible kid and me a horrible parent? I didn't pay for the replacement rails either, how much worse does that make me?? Life is short, don't take it so serious, your not getting out of it alive! I find the girl stuck in the exhaust pretty funny. I've seen plenty of people stick their heads in those giant exhaust tips. That's the first person I've seen get stuck but still pretty funny.

  41. RVs are great, until you want to explore the area and have no way to get around. Unless you tow another car behind it or drive a second vehicle your stuck at your campsite unless your gonna break camp and drive that monster around town to explore or pick up supplies. Unless you get a class A bus, you most likely won’t have a full size residential fridge, which means extended stays will be difficult without restocking the fridge. O and can’t forget that if your towing a car behind it, you can’t back up. This is my old mans setup. We traveled around out west for over a year in this thing. But without towing that Jeep, we wouldn’t of been able to go hardly anywhere. Unhook Jeep, park RV and go. Spent a few days in Moab rock crawling the Jeep.

  42. When I first started getting into bass fishing, I was watching Hank Parker and Bill Dance shows. I bought all the lures they mentioned. One day while at K-Mart to get some new gear, I thought to myself, "Whats the real difference from these $6 buzz baits vs those $2 ones?". I bought a few of the cheapies, didn't really notice a difference ( neither did the fish ). When the bass were hitting, they were hitting, and I caught just as many on the cheapies as the ones mentioned in those fishing shows. My best day bass fishing from shore I was using Bear Paws in silver with a Fat Head on the hook, casting and reeling in. Those Bear Paws were bought that day at a hardware store in Schoharie, and I had never used them before. I never made a cast I didn't land a fish. I have never had a day like that again, but the memory is burned into my brain. It doesn't cost a lot to catch fish. Presentating counts. With that said, I love my top water shock baits. Buzz baits are my favorite. NO guess work with top water baits, frogs, floating minnows, top water jerk baits, w/e you like. My favorite type of lure for large and small mouth bass.

  44. I'd start scouting in July and August for bear sign, it is really tough in the deep woods unless you can identify travel corridors. A few years back I found an old abandoned farm on state land and the apple trees for whatever reason were full of fruit and the bears were crazy about that. Last year the trees were barren and the choke cherry trees were bearing fruit and they were climbing the trees and stripping the fruit off. I'm in Hamilton County and there is a good sustained population, they are not super big bears but they can be located. I have several trail cam pictures posted on here. https://huntingny.com/forums/topic/39685-been-out-scouting/ To answer you question, I have never used any call but it sound intriguing to try....

  47. Oh come on, you never did anything dumb when you were young? Id put money on it started as a conversation about how big the exhaust was and somehow turned into a dare or bet. Add a bit of alcohol to the situation and there ya go. Good gravy, some of you guys act like you were never young and dumb. Alot of silly things such as this have absolutely nothing to do with parenting. Doing dumb stuff is part of growing up. Hell, theres plenty of adults that still do silly stuff like that.
