Finally satisfied with the tune on the two bows I will hunt with in 2018. First is a Border Covert Hunter ilf riser with Uukha VX+ limbs at around 51lbs with Easton axis 260s cut to 30” with 90g inserts and 250g vpa 3 blade heads. Second is a Border tempest ilf with morrison max 5 limbs at about 53lbs with GT traditional 300 shafts 32” and 300g vpa heads. It’s always good when you are confident on tune and how you are shooting. Last year was a struggle at this time of year. No more messing around. Just practice single shots from here on. Bring it one Deer.10 points

Yes, I truly am, thank you!! They have learned patience, determination, a sense of what the value of taking a life means and they love our homemade venison jerky...and well more trips to buy gear for me!!! The wife, girls and I built our off grid camp where all the materials came in on a wheeler. The only hired help was with the roof, they never complained and we completed it in 40 days.....6 points

Bored, so I thought I'd share a story... Two years ago, my son was obsessed with this one buck that he was getting trail cam pics of. This was the one and only buck that he wanted. Two weeks after getting his last trail cam pic of this buck, he got another pic of him, only to see that the buck had broken off his drivers side! My son was bummed to say the least! My son was out scouting today and happened to find the antler that the buck had broken off 2 years prior! Notice the chunk of skull that's still attached to the antler! That must have been one hell of a battle that buck was in to break off a chunk of it's freekin' skull like that! Good God! I have a feeling he's probably sleeping with that antler in his bed tonight! BTW, he found the antler ~100 yards from his stand.5 points

This “He sacrificed everything for his cause” narrative is such a crock. He lost his job long before he “took a knee”. If there’s one thing we know about the NFL it’s that if you can play, there’s nothing you can do off the field that will cost you your job Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro4 points

Thanks, they are both good girls and we're proud of them, if it cost me more gear I 'm good with that too.... I got mom started in bow hunting several years ago and at a Cabela's visit I made the mistake of visiting the restroom leaving her unattended. I came back and she was pushing one cart, dragging another behind and was having carbon arrows sized to length. It's the price I'll pay to see them get outside and enjoy the hunting/fishing sports...3 points

The .30 carbine is legal in NY for deer and using soft point bullets within 50 yards, it is quite capable of bringing down a whitetail deer. I've taken a few with one over the years. The 7.62x39 is about equal to the .30-30 and nobody questions it's ability to kill whitetail. The rest you mentioned may not be made for deer hunting, but in the hands of a hunter skilled in using one, deer will be taken quite easily. Not the best choice? Depends on the choices available. When you consider the only real difference between poor folk and rich folk, is that rich folk have more choices, maybe it was the guy's best choice. Or maybe the old SKS just enhances the quality of the hunt for the guy. Freedom of choice.3 points

I was fishing an egg sucking leech pattern I tied and bottom bouncing it through some quick water hoping for a smallie or trout. I was surprised he took it, must've dropped right in front of his mouth and he sucked it in. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk3 points

Congratulations on having raised two daughters that are interested in the outdoors! Certainly not common any more. Have you considered getting lifetime licenses for them? Much cheaper in the long run and a lot less hassle.2 points

Your daughters will never forget building your camp with you. It must make it even more special when you spend time there together. You cannot put a price tag on family time like that. Good luck getting them all legal beagle.2 points

Good call, the last roof guy you had damn near lost a finger and bled out when he stopped for a sub on the way to get stitches.2 points

Why don't you try purchasing the licenses online instead? Maybe the system is only down in the town halls office and not the online purchasing system? I've bought mine online for a number of years now and never had a problem. You won't have to deal with long lines, dumb clerks, etc. They mail them to you in a week or two. Real simple process.2 points

After 6 years, 27 days of hiking, hundreds of rugged ADK miles and tens of thousands of feet of elevation gain, I finally reached my last summit on Haystack to become an ADK 46'R! I had been patiently waiting for a break in the continuous thunderstorm forecasts and made the decision to go on Saturday afternoon. To make this finish even sweeter, my close friend Jenny (#8022) surprised me with a call only hours before leaving Saturday night saying that she and her friend would love to join me. What an incredible surprise! We hiked all night (starting at 11:30 pm) and after breaking treeline I could have sprinted over Little Haystack and up to Haystack's summit! However, I wanted to share that moment and together we enjoyed a spectacular sunrise and jaw-dropping summit views. In fact, I'd rate Haystack's views and grueling 18 miles RT as the best I've experienced of all the 46ers.Normally I would share a more detailed story about the hike itself, but this day was all about my 46'R journey and the motivations behind it. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do this. I wanted to say "Thank You" to those in our military (since I could not serve) who provide the very blanket of Freedom that allows us to enjoy our Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. I wanted to stare down and conquer fear and self-doubt by hiking nearly all of the 46 peaks solo, including several throughout the night with no sleep. I wanted to enjoy each mountain a certain way and patiently planned each hike to ensure success. And I wanted to share these amazing experiences with those who couldn't be there or those who might also be inspired in the same way that others inspired me. Ultimately, I completed the 46'R because of a very difficult reminder that Life is too short. Tomorrow isn't promised to me or any of us. What we do today and who we share our time with is what truly matters most! I appreciate all of the time everyone gave me in support of reaching this day. I may have completed my 46'R journey, but this isn't the end, it is only the beginning.2 points

Damn you guys shot last night? I totally forgot it was Tuesday with Monday being a holiday! I think my shoulder is good enough to let a couple fly, at least lift a couple of cold ones!2 points

Thank you Salmon Run! Hope you can return to good health soon enough to make that NPT goal of yours! I'm still looking for an opening to do Mt. Washington. This one is a little trickier to plan than the ADK's because of the weather and distance from home. Hopefully, I can do it this month.2 points
-
The plan is a compound only if I am sitting a blind. Otherwise I will stick with the curves. There are a few stands that are too tight for these bows but I will avoid them unless I have a very strong belief I need to sit em. I am not a snob about compounds and will use one when needed. But have greater satisfaction when hunting with the recurves for whatever reason. For me, there is something magical about a pure shot with fingers from a single string.2 points

I was just trying to think how many decades that I evolved into a ground stand hunter. I wish I could say it was because of some fantastic piece of intelligence, but it really is merely a reaction to a developing phobia about heights....lol. Actually, I put a lot of man-hours into treestand hunting, and not really with all the current safety recommendations that we have today. I am pretty sure that even without the "heights thing", I probably would have eventually made the change anyway. I had a cousin that died from a fall out of his stand. He was taken from the family at way too young an age. I do realize the benefits of treestand hunting. But I have discovered the excitement of hunting eyeball to eyeball with the critters on their level, and while it has restricted my success somewhat, I do enjoy the additional challenge.2 points
