  1. Live every day like it's your last On Friday , August 24 , I had my ATV and trailer all loaded up ready to roll Saturday am . I was sick to my stomach . My wife was in Yellowstone and when I told her I was vomiting , she said go to urgent care . Being stubborn , I refused . A neighbor stopped by and I told hime not to come in that I was fine . Saturday am , my wife couldn't get hold of me and made a couple calls . My daughter came to the house to find me on the kitchen floor almost unconsciencious , laying in a mess . Apparently I was bleeding internally . I was hauled away in an Ambulance to Highland Hospital . The med in the ambulance poked my wrist at least a dozen trying to find a vein so they could give me meds but I was too dehydrated . At the hospital , I was given 4 blood transfusions . Over the next few days I was given a Colonoscopy , an Endoscopy , a special cardiogram where they kick started my heart . I was on so many meds that I was seeing things that didn't exist but They were vivid images . Scarey ! I couldn't wait to get out of the hospital . They treated me well but it was difficult getting any sleep or rest while there . They finally turned me loose September 3 . I have been to several specialists sine my release . They assume that since I was taking Naproxen (Allieve) daily for so long that it could have put a hole in my stomach lining and caused the Internal Bleeding . My Red Cell Blood Count is still low . Still taking all kinds of meds , vitamins , etc .. I am still weak , tired and finding it difficult to concentrate on anything . A lot of things went through my mind while near death . I thought about needing to make my oldest son co-owner of my pistols . Giving away some of my other possessions while still above ground and telling folks that I love them . There is a lot of catching up to do in the near future . The reason I wrote this is to lets folks know that this could happen to anyone at any time . I never would have expected this to have happened to me . fe

  2. 9/18/2018 I received a call at 9:30 this morning from a bowhunter that had shot a bear while hunting in Santa Clara at 6:30 last night. He stated the bear was quartering away at 35 yards, and he thought he made a good hit on it. After losing the blood trail last night, he went back and searched for 2 hours this morning before calling me. It was Kunox's turn to track, so much to Luna's chagrin, off to the Adirondacks we went. This was Kunox's first bear track, and the hunter's first bear. We met the hunter and he led us back in the first 4 miles, then the road got narrower so I parked and rode with him to avoid beating up my truck. Once we arrived at the hit site, Kunox was shown blood and started working 5 yards downwind of it due to a breeze dispersing the scent. In short order he worked his way back to the blood and stayed on it for 125 yards until it ran out. Kunox continued on, weaving his way through the woods. 75 yards later I saw the bear 10 yards ahead, laying behind a blowdown. I called the hunter up and told him to make sure it was dead before I approached with Kunox, which he reported was the case. Kunox was initially hesitant to approach, but about 2 minutes later he was chewing and tugging on it. It was laying just outside it's den, which was dug out under the blowdown. The hunter said he would never have found it without Kunox, and also admitted to having serious doubts about him being on the right track once the blood disappeared. Very happy with his performance on this 18 hour old track.

  3. Amazing sunset on Oneida tonite. Had to walk out back and snap a couple of pics. Best sunsets are right before a front coming in.

  4. Heres a good example of a 47 year old: youve got the gut starting to sway, the knees appear to be giving out, and the "Ah who cares, Im wearing this out in public"" attire. Fists clenched in the "so help me God if these batteries are dead" position

  5. My main point wasn't clear . This could happen to anyone at any time . Other than being old and overweight , I have always been able to hike back into the woods with my hunting equipment with no problem . This bleeding internally came out of the blue . In my semi consciousness I started thinking of all the things I had put off for another day and would never have gotten done . There is so much catching up to do when I get well . No more procrastinating ! Don't ever think that you are indestructible !

  7. Started this hobby almost 4 years ago. My grand daughter Cadence. One of her favorite sayings is "Catskill Mountains". She lives with my daughter 4 hours away in God forsaken NJ. I'm expecting an expansion on this hobby in November too. A male addition I'm told.

  9. My 2001 Chrysler Town & Country finally gave it up. It wouldn't pass inspection because of the rusted frame, and then the power steering let loose again for the 7th or 8th time. it's parked in my driveway waiting for a salvage hauler. The motor and tranny are good, so I'm hoping for more than the usual $200 junk deal. It was a great and dependable construction work vehicle for ten years, and I won't say anything bad about it. I'll miss it. So long old friend. The new (to me) truck is a 2000 Ford Ranger. I know, it's older than what I just had, but it has a lot less miles and fewer annoying issues. The side panels on the bed look like crap, all rusted out, but the cab is perfect and it runs and drives great. I don't know if we have any Ford Ranger fans here, but the prices have skyrocketed since Ford discontinued the line. I had one back in the late eighties and it was a great truck. Just needed to gloat/vent after a long day of dealing with the paperwork. I'll post some pics when I can. "I'm on the road again." Almost two weeks of being homestead-bound had me going nuts.

  10. I’m notorious for setting climber in ash trees. No troubles with anchoring there. If I ever disappear from forum I’m still up in one and phone battery is dead.

  13. He could be a 3.5 y/o, but I'm not positive. One thing's for sure, if he walks in front of me while I'm still hunting, he won't be celebrating anymore birthdays.

  15. 9/15/2018 I was called at 9:30 this morning to track a bear in Pierrepont. Luna and I arrived at 11:00 and headed deep into the woods in a wagon being pulled by a 4 wheeler. The hunter had been walking out after morning watch when the bear coming running by at 70 yards. He believes he hit the bear too far forward, using his 300 win mag. He had only tracked for 30 or 40 yards before backing out and calling me. We started at the hit site where the bear had gone down, and had then jumped up and ran off. There was a small amount of blood and hair. Luna immediately locked on and off we went. We followed a very light, sporadic bloodtrail for half a mile, then nothing for the next quarter mile. Temps were in the mid 80's, so I stopped Luna many times for water and a breather. This bear had not been pushed and never bedded down in 3/4 of a mile, so I called the track at that point. Hopefully the hunter gets another crack at it.

  16. have only shot maybe 10x’s since my shoulder surgery finally got the ok from the doc today. Hurts like hell only shot 4 shots but these were the first 2 at 25yds. The VA surgeon thinks they finally fixed my shoulder after the fourth surgery since 09. I seriously have my doubts, but I’m glad to finally be able to shoot a little more gonna keep my ranges short this year for hunting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  26. I've had trap & animals stolen. It's very frustrating and troubling since just like with trailcam theft, it's probably another hunter doing the stealing. If anyone thinks it's easy to make an animal step on a 2" trap pan I invite you to try. I've been predator trapping since age 12 and still love it. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk

  31. That tree and all the others that look like it are very sick! Best thing to do with it is cut and split it all and bring it my place! Just kidding shag “rough” bark hickory, good trees to have around just don’t use a a climber in them! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. Those are shagbark hickorys, and that is how they are supposed to look. It's a very common species and generally a very beneficial one. And by the way, for those that are very, very, ambitious, it produce nuts that make some darn good cakes and cookies if you have a lot of time on your hands....lol

  36. Went up Friday to the daks. It was not bear weather lol. I sat 2 mornings and one evening. Did have a nice buck come within bow range though. All in all, it was good to get out in the woods and my expectations were low, but bear hunting without bait in NY is tough. Especially in the vast north country.
