  1. My 1st bow kill tonight,25yrd shot and she ran about 50yrds. She jumped so the shot wasn't perfect but the wound was massive so the trail was easy to follow, gave her a couple hours and there she lay,my 4yr old daughter is dying for jerky now, lol.

  2. So, to set this up... My son is 23 and lives and works an hour away, but often comes home on weekends. We typically do most of our hunting together, but he's been getting some big ole bucks on his trail cams, right behind his apartment, so decided to hunt more there. He's been hunting hard since season opened (rain, heat, wind didn't matter!). He's been getting frustrated by the lack of sightings and his trail cam pics have dropped off significantly in the past 2 weeks. I suggested that he pump the breaks a little, as to not get too frustrated or burned out, before the "fun" part starts. But, like father, like son it's easier said than done! He texted me this morning, in the rain, and I could tell he was really frustrated, but I tried to give him words of encouragement. Anyways, he texted me again ~10:30am and said that the woods just "exploded" with deer activity all around him! Two decent bucks (2 1/2 year olds) were chasing a couple does all around him, grunting, rubbing tree's, tearing up scrapes, and even bedded down for a while 30 yards from him! He sent me several pics of the bucks! He never shot, because he has his heart set on the bigger bucks that he has several pics of. Anyways, I thought the parents might get a laugh out of the text that he sent me and how proud that it makes a parent feel knowing that this passion all started, because of them! I'm sure we can all relate too! Just remember when you're frustrated, things can turn around at any minute! #ONEPROUDDAD!!!!!!

  3. Hey fellow hunters! It's been a very busy year so I haven't been on the site much. Last weekend, my Dad and I were st camp. I saw 6 doe but only had a shot at two yearlings, I passed. We drove back home around 5. I knew I would have about 1.5 hours if I rushed out behind my house. I actually didn't get out there until 5:30, I had to give the family hugs and kisses and ask how there weekend was. Finally, I was out there, I climb the ladder, hang my bow and start trimming little sap suckers in my way. While doing so and making noise I see movement at 40 yards, it's a mature doe! As odd as it was, she proceeded to my ladder to about 5 yards. I hit her high in the spine and the quickly dispatched her with another shot through both lungs. I had her gutted and dragged to my garage by 545. It was surreal, my wife is shaking her head from the patio door and yells "sell the camp", lmao! That won't happen. Good luck and have fun!

  4. I think this is my first time posting in a live thread. Sitting in a group of red oaks dropping acorns. Fairly thick woods hope I see something. Like to give me some first time luck.

  6. Had a good morning sit. Not far from an active scrape that I hung a cam over yesterday. At first light the buck parade started. Several 1.5-2.5 yo bucks worked their way in and took turns at the scrape. A nice solid 3.5 yo 8 followed soon after. I had him at 35 yds but the decision was made to let him walk. Had I not known about his 2 big brothers in the area, he probably would've been in the back of my truck right now. It really felt good to let him walk. Shortly after he came out the rain started. If I'm going to track in the rain, it's going to have to be worth it. I'll be out again this afternoon on a different part of the property.

  7. Saw a monster last night in Darien but didn't present a good shot. I went in blind without having a camera up or really any scouting and he worked past 50 yards out in some light cover. Could see split brows from 50 and lots o points lol. Oh well. Then passed a decent 8 later. Solid first sit.

  8. Drew on a doe at 30 yards. Man... What a rush. I was uncomfortable with the shot through some beech whips and striped maple saplings. She was moving at a good clip after browsing out of range. So, I let off, and let her go. Thrilling. I was shaking. It's on now...

  9. So the foot stomping and blowing went on for awhile. I could see doe at 40 yards but barely. She’d trot off , come back , blow , stomp repeat. Then 200 yards away I see the nice buck I saw coming in for afternoon sit. He’s skirting the edge of the brassicas and then to the soy beans. Mass and horn Big 8, maybe 10. Couple other big bodies with him. 5 in all. So now I’ll go to bed tonight trying to figure out how to get on him.

  10. 10/13/18 #1 I was called last night by a bowhunter that told me he had made a high shot on a 6 pointer. He and a friend had tracked for approximately 200 yards, marking the blood with ribbons as they went. They had backed out for fear of pushing him in the dark, and told me they were going back in the morning. They further said they would call me and let me know in the morning if they need us or not. I was called this morning shortly after daybreak and told they had tracked to the edge of a swamp, but weren’t sure where he had gone in there. I put both dogs in the truck and headed out, anticipating a possible second track this opening morning of muzzleloader. Luna quickly got on the track and took us past every ribbon that marked blood, taking us to the swamp. I told the hunter to start flagging blood as we see it, and I followed Luna in. I was surprised and happy to see the buck laying dead, just 20 yards in. Field dressing revealed the the broadhead had clipped the liver. These guys did everything right, from not pushing the deer, to doing a great job of flagging the bloodtrail. Things could have turned out differently if they pushed this deer. The total length of this track was 318 yards. #2 I received a second call this morning just as we found the first buck. The hunter, on public land, shot a 6 pointer with his muzzleloader and had lost blood after 75 yards. Kunox got on the track and moved beyond the point of loss, but we never saw another drop blood. We did a restart after a couple hundred yards and we ended up at a property line...again, not one drop of blood. I decided to try Luna and see what she could show us. She took us right to the same spot at the property line, but this time the buck jumped up 100 yards in front of us and ran off on 3 legs. We were not able to pursue on the private property, so unfortunately the track ended there.

  14. Got her Sept 30th. Had to let 3 bucks walk by at less than 30 yards this season until i finally got this mature doe to make a mistake (post requires to take a antlerless before shooting a buck).

  15. I figured I would update this, my dad, and I bought the HSS safety system vest. We both like the quality, and find it very comfortable. Thank you for all the suggestions. Now we are safe.

  20. After getting busted by a doe with her fawn early i wasnt feeling very optimistic. Around 9am a group of 4 deer came out to my right. 2 fawns started feeding around the base of my stand. The 2 larger doe stayed back were i had no shot. This doe eventually came right in and ended up right under my stand. She looked up at me and spun around, made one hop and stopped. She was maybe 10 yards away when i shot. Got down after about 15 minutes to check out were she was standing. I decided to walk in the direction she went, and soon saw her piled up maybe 50 yards from were she was hit. Now onto hunting for a buck!

  25. So, on my way to my tree stand I catch movement in the woods ahead of me. I stalked up to it and it's a medium sized 8Pt. I got to within bow range (about 30 yds) and he was a little smaller than I'm looking for so I passed on the shot. Pretty cool and exciting...Glad that I rake the trails through the woods and into my stands before the season for quieter access....between that and the leaves being wet, he had no idea that I was there and eventuakly walked off. Now, so far nothing seen from in the stand.

  37. Post-live from the woods. No signal in that stand. Got out for the last two and a half hours for the first sit of the season. Bumped 7 turkeys on the way in, all hens. Saw a doe and two playful fawns 150 yds across the field. Was good to get out finally. Back at it in the morning! Pics are front and rear view.

  38. When I was training my first puppy years ago (RIP), I had her on over 500 pigeons between July-August in cut pea fields. It was a blast! By the time we got to September goose, she know her stuff. Funny though, watching her bring back her first goose after all those pigeons, "Man, this pigeon has been eating well, Dad!"
