  1. Hunting behind the house this morning (9h). 2 spikes walked past me around 9:00 then at 9:45 this guy walked out. Personal best with the bow! Quartering away shot, got liver and one lung. Wasn’t a pass through so blood trail turned into a grid search. He ran about 300 yards but I was able to see him for most of it because it was a crp field. Very thankful the neighbor didn’t mind me looking around on his property. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. In through the lungs but back a bit out the guts...heading back to stand for a whole before I go any further... As per usual he jumped at the hit then just wandered/wobbled back the way he came...with this heavy settup they have yet to run

  4. Hunting partner text me an hour ago, said he saw a big buck trailing a doe, three hundred yards from where I'm set up. Said they were heading my direction. So far, nuttin. Gonna stay till the end of legal light. I know this is a proven, great rut spot! Thick nasties, bordering a doe bedding area. Wind is perfect and steady. Fingers crossed. I'm in the right spot. Just need a little luck today!

  9. Doe for the freezer, another heart shot, went about 100 yards. Those slicks tricks are lethal, always a pass thru with those heads. Gonna fill the freezer fast with these big does.

  11. Had another successful day afield in dismal weather. The dog did her job as she always dose and we came home with a bird apiece. Probably could have bagged another bird a piece but my dads knee was getting sore and the rain was getting harder. My cocker got on my bird hard in tall grass and headed it off on the run Turning it back towards me and running down forcing it to take flight when it became pinned about ten feet in front of me cackling with the best of them as the small bird dog leapt after him. After it was well clear of the cocker I Dropped it with one round from the sixteen on a quartering away shot. We finished working the field and moved to the next. Bailey flushed my dads bird for its first short flight out of a cut line in the field he missed with his first shot and the bird landed and ran into the thickets between the field and the swamps. The cocker didn’t show her 9 years of age as she charged in after it and flushed it cackling back out towards the field. His second round from the 12 gauge sportsman 48 dropped the rooster and the flushing wonder retrieved. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. And then all that snow melted and fell on me. Back at the house with clothes in the dryer. Didn’t see a thing. It was like the woods was having a snow ball fight and I was in the middle of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. Chevy is better than Ford? Rage broadheads are overpriced hype? Crossbows will be the end of bow season as we know it? Antler restrictions are ineffective/Communist? Food plots are no better than bags of corn? Take your pick.

  22. Wait it out Paul. As a distraction, my buddy David used a piece of ratchet strap tied to a limb and small piece of branch on other end to create a licking branch. Darned if it didn’t work. Phade just had this same 2 yr old with a broken g2 working it and a scrape that the deer opened 15yds from his stand. And I made fun of him when I first saw it. Lol

  24. Spent a little over Two hours out with Flushing Bailey Lynn of Rose Cottage today. Made contact with five birds total. The first was a runner that looked like a race horse trotting across the cut field after it broke out of the rough. Called the dog off and continued to work the hedge line. I saw one duck from the cut line into the thickets and the dog was on him. A short chase ensued and with a single cluck two birds took flight out of the brush. I dropped the one cutting right but could not get a bead on the second going left. The cocker snatched him up to the field and set him down the moment he stopped twitching. She seems to think once they are dead and dad can see them it’s time to find the next. About another two hundred yards down the hedge/swamp line we had our second runner break into the field dog right behind. She turned back towards the thick stuff but a doe jumped up and I whistled the command to recall. She doesn’t seem to pay deer any attention but I gave that rooster a pass any how. We worked our way back to the truck against a cut line pond bank but flushed no roosters. Along the drainage for the pond the dog got on the last rooster for the day working him hard in the brush/cattails his cackles giving clues to his flush point as she worked him. He finally flushed but had decided his best bet was to go deeper into the cattails. I held my fire to give my hard working dog a break and as she returned I got the glare of a disappointed hunting partner. As when made the truck the rain started so we called it a day. Teddy was more than excited to hold the bird for today’s picture. And wants to know when he can go.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. Well i got found my arrow about 75 yards after the shot. Just as i got to it he stood up 10 yards ahead and walked off. Definitely crushed the liver. Back in the house waiting till 830 to go back out. Hoping the yotes keep away from him.

  29. Out of anybody here you know the shot the best. How it looked and felt. If you think you need to track it go slow. Like you are still hunting slow. If you can wait it out give him another hour or 2. It's a hard wait. If the shot was a little back and hit the lungs and guts you most likely got the liver too. Dead deer just don't push it.

  36. Finally got my dog out for his first hunt. He has been training very hard all summer and today was for him to put that to the test . Conditions were lousy and only managed to get 2 groups of birds to work the spread, not much for flights. Cooper held very steady in his blind for a 18 month old. Around 8:30 had a hen and drake wood duck cup perfectly and a 1 shot at the back drake send him down. Cooper waited to be released and then launched out of his blind like a track star. He didn’t take the straightest of line To get to him but I won’t beat him up for his first. Anyway I was able to get pics and a video of his first retrieve and taking the Woodie to the taxidermist as I have my other dogs first bird done when she was alive .

  41. I have developed serious infections twice from dressing game without without gloves, once from cleaning squirrels and once from butchering a caribou....The one from the caribou would have ended my last Alaska hunting trip prematurely if one of my partners had not brought a bottle cipro just in case...Since then I carry a Ziploc full of cheap latex gloves in my vest or my pack, and use them every time I dress, skin or butcher anything....

  42. Property taxes, tractor parts, and implements, fuel, seed, 4 new hub blinds, 5 trail cams, crossbow broad heads, two boxes Federal Nosler BTs, tons of reloading stuff, a pair of lightweight bowhunting gloves, Under Armor pants, Eddie Bower camo mid weight shirt.....And I'm sure I forgot something. Thousands....... $$ But worth every penny. Even if I don't kill a deer.
