  3. Well my heart was pounding tonight! Had my target buck come out into the field directly across from me. He turned and walked the field edge, stopping to make a scrape. He continued to walk the field edge and only got to 85 yards before catching wind of a doe that had just walked out of the field about 10 mins earlier. He must of seen her standing just off the cut field in the brushy stuff and followed her down to the creek bottom. I grunted at him multiple times trying to get his attention but he could care less once he had that doe near him. My heart was pounding away though so it was a good time! Looks like things are starting to heat up!

  4. Guys, remember I said I found what looked like a recently used Buck bed on a ridge couple of days ago? Behold, the owner: I just pulled these pics. Now I need to figure out how to get 'im.

  5. I’m hunting close to home this morning. Forcing myself to stay on this couch until 6:45 so I’m not out there getting wet in the dark. I don’t think it’ll be shooting light until 8. I’m not optimistic at all but 11/2 is the day my Dad passed so I always hunt it. One deer in 18 years on 11/2 lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  6. never aged him. Horns grew really slow year round. First pic I got was in November when he was a little 4 point at 1.4 years. Kept Getting pics for several years and figured he was about 4-5 years old. Shot him a first light when he was going to bed. Lived behind my neighbors House. I mounted him figuring he was a once in a lifetime.

  9. This doe was pushed into this big tuft of tall grass/bamboo by a six point as I was getting undressed at the truck. I calmly got my bow from the backseat, went around the back and got my release from my pack, walked around the front of the truck and got ti around 20 yards. She was hard quartering away so I shot just in front of her hip and got about 18" of penetration. She went a ways and the blood trail was terrible, her intestines plugged the hole. Sodfather came out and helped me track and it was a tough one between very little blood and the woods being soaked. Also the yellow maple leaves with the bright red splotches were a MENACE. I was glad he could make it and owe him big time. Shes a big girl, pic straight on doesnt show it. I have way too much stuff in the way of my scale but I'd bet shes 120+

  11. My friend... his “first chance” was defying your friend that is watching the property. If he apologized and left never to return ok. He has shown clear disregard for your property. I think letting the DEC arrest him is the only solution if you get a chance to make an ID on him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Have had quite a few guys at work talk to me about buying hunting gear at said stores. Some had no idea about the 3 Gun lobbyist that they hired on their board and I Informed them of this , and then theres others that know and still spend money and 4 of them own AR,s. I just don’t get it. Heck i don’t even own a AR but dang the writing is on the wall guys. I guess some guys principals are pretty easily swayed by saving a buck. Sad part is there are other pro gun stores that you can save money at also. It just baffles me..

  16. My range stays the same, be it vertical or crossbow. 30 yards. Have shot and practiced both out to 60 yards. Makes the 30 yarders much easier. I want to be 'sure' of a quick clean kill. If anyone is into shooting for distance, firearms season opens in the SZ on the 17th. Save the longer shots for then.

  17. Left my stand about 10:20... worked my way down the hill towards the truck. I get down near the road, about 70 yards away where I never see deer. I look to my left and there is a 6point standing 20ish yards away just staring at me. I stopped, grabbed an arrow, knocked it, pulled up, drew and aimed, and in that instant that deer bound off. I was just happy to see something, this all happened about 10:30ish.

  20. This is really getting crazy. A couple food plots are now under water. A small feeder stream that we use to skirt a swamp, is now very wide and waist deep. Have two prime rut stands, that border a swamp that are surrounded by water, no way to get near them. Tractor and ATV roads are all a quagmire and mostly impassable, without creating deep ruts. Even hay fields have standing water in them, that look like ponds. All the ridge slopes are muddy and slick. Have never seen this place like this, at this time of year. Almost like a rainey warm up, in early spring, with a deep snowpack. All this, WILL effect the deer movement on our property to some extent. They can't bed in the swamps because there are very few, if any, high spots left to bed on. So they are pushed out to the next available thick stuff, to bed in no doubt. But we are not set up for that. Now it's up to us, to figure out all the changes in deer movement. Just an added challenge, to an already challenging season so far. Success will be all the more sweet when it happens this year! We are up to the challenge.

  23. Thanks for adding me to the forum. I have had my license forever unfortunately I lost my interest to hunt because of a few bad experiences and also not having access to property. I have a rekindled my fondness for hunting after we bought our house with acreage. Last year I went and took the archery class...oldest one in the class but...I love archery now! So well worth it. Thanks Again!

  29. After last nights excitement seeing my target buck I jumped out of bed 30 mins before my 5am alarm. Went for coffee, made a little drive around checking fields with my head lights but couldn’t see much with all this fog and rain. Snuck back out to the blind at 540. I can only hope a doe will come in for breakfast and bring big daddy with her. This rain sure does suck! After this weekend I think I’ll need to wear chest waders to go anywhere on my property.

  31. Happens if their Nuts never descend. It’s called something like chryptochordism. They are sterile and never drop their horns. It is usually caused by a groin injury when they are young. Basically a steer. I shot one before. Took me 4 years to see him in light. Never ruts

  37. Welp, started out to be a good night got in the woods around 4:30 after getting out of work and hour and half drive. Everyhting was going good had a button buck and doe fawn bed down behind me 30 yards. Watched for a while glanced at facebook a little here and there. About 5:15 here comes doe with 2 fawns and another fawn behind her. Looked again and another deer in a scrape saw some head gear but unsure of its size. He starts trailing the doe, im glassing and holy bejesus here comes a monster 10 point. Doe skirts me at around 50 yards. And the big buck stays low. I tried grunting, snort wheeze notta, too locked on that single doe. Well the doe with fawns got a nervous and decided to walk up the hill right to me. I'm hoping and praying that single doe follows, and she does. Holy crap here he comes. Walks 25 yards wide open shooting i stop him he is just looking to see what bleated. I settle the pin down on his heart but thinking last minute the angle is too steep and raise up to the lungs. Well you guessed it he jumped the string dropped a good 8" and went right over his back. If i had put it on the heart probably would have lunged him easy. Good part is after the shot he ran about 30 yards stood there for a quick second and qalked off after the doe. Look at my phone 6:01 this all happened in an hour and half of being on stand. Had a great sit but wish i had a picture of a big 10 point to go along with this story. Here is I think one side of his shed last year. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  41. I don't think anyone else has mentioned this yet, but this weather is not exactly great fur hunting, discuss. Seriously it sucks but I do think it's just a matter of time before it turns on, atleast relative to this season.. Last night this was all within eyesight of my stand I set on the lease weeks ago just based on an old rub line.

  45. Thanks for all the support yesterday huntingny! Ive been starting to get a little burnt despite not hunting that much relative to previous seasons. My mother reminded me I can't control the weather on Friday so I made lemonade out of pee on Saturday by hanging a new set (in freezing monsoon conditions) in an annual breeding area but with very little in sign yet. Ive had this tree on my list a long time so I settup for 2 hours then prepped the trail in and out of the thickets in my lanes with antlerice hot doe and buck (it was pouring so I doused the trail) and made a mock. Sunday AM went as planned I got in early/quiet/downwind and I set a stink stick of hot doe over the scrape and hung one of buck by my boots in the tree...all was perfect...then I realized I forgot my release at home....ugh I left all my heavy gear on and my bow in the tree and raced home and back and was set again by 6:57, overheated and under-confident. Around 7:30 I snapped a pic of my lure lanes and posted it on the live thread it was just legal so I decided to tickle the bag and give one very light grunt in hopes it would explain all the commotion the previous hour. A few minutes later I catch movement at my 7 right where I expect it, I see main beam around ears. He is nosing my trail hard but every couple seconds does a quick pause. I draw when his head is obscured he pops in my first lane (15 yds) on his way to the mock. I fire seated (my preference) I see it's back a bit he gallops a 180 then stops and slowly walks back into the brush a couple wobbles. It was raining, the shot exited a little back. I got down to check the arrow good pass thru but a bit of liver smell. I waited an hour then found first and second blood then backed out called dog search to be safe and asked for permission on adjacent property and waited til 2:30 (7 hrs) on the liver. Braylee the dachsund followed the exact trail with no blood (all in the carcass) and I spotted him easily after about 80 yards and 3 minutes on the same trail he walked out on. 140 on the scale and a nice marbled chocolate vanilla swirl typical 8 rack maybe 85-90" net. Nice 2.5 for the county parcel I'm hunting. Good hanging weather today as well
