  4. I knew today would work. Nothing until 8:10 when this doe walks by then off. 10 min later a nice buck cruising at 100 yards but despite a doe and buck call stopping him a few times he had his eye on something else. This came by again and 30 yards and she ran 50 at the most and down within sight. Rage hypodermic from centerpoint 370. I SUCK at identifying doe size. Really thought this was a good size doe. Isn’t, but my guy can probably get 25 lbs off her anyway. Also realized I am a degenerate hunter. I told my wife next deer and my season is done. And yet I am posting this from my stand again 8-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Got it done today in 8H after a slower than normal season. He came right toward my treestand from upwind. Turned sharply at 15 yards and gave me a perfect quartering away shot. Double lung with a rage... he ran about 75 yards and I watched him drop.

  7. I got my first crossbow buck yesterday morning. A basket rack 8 point around 8 am. I was on the ground sitting in a blow down watching a squirrel when the squirrel took of running down the hill. I looked over my left shoulder and seen horns coming through thick beech brows. I picked an open spot 30 yards and when he stepped in he stopped downwind and stared right at me. It was a quarting toward me shot. I took the shot and he took off running in a circling direction and out of sight. I waited for my buddy before tracking. We found him dead about 100 yards from the shot. I was disappointed to find the mechanical part of my hybrid broadhead didn't open but the placement of the arrow got if done. The broadhead was a bloodsport, and the crossbow is a Barnett doa rated at 385 fps.

  8. Have had a rough few days in the big woods, bucks seem to be laying low with minimal sign. Found some does yesterday and a cow moose today I hunted a place I haven’t been since I was a kid a little over an hr drive from my camp and it was much the same for the deer saw a doe and fawn and that was it, no buck sign at all in the higher elevation. On my way up I saw 2 cows and a calf moose and on the way down I saw the bull. So far in the big woods this year I’ve walked 97 miles let 2 bucks go let 1 bear go and have saw 7 moose. 2 more days up here before I have to head back to civilization for a few dad duties. 9. I told my Dad you have been saying this for days. He said “who the fuck is Phade and what kind of first name is that?” Lol. Anyway, I got 39 degrees with 4mph winds, and a 630am sunrise. Let the bodies (bucks) hit the floor! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Wow! Officially hooked on decoying. First light a doe and fawn came in, just now a spike and then a three point came in. Sparring, scraping. They kept their distance from the decoy, about 5 yards away. Within feet of me and I'm on the ground in a blind.

  13. Thanks Paul, honestly it’s the best one I’ve ever had. I’m at 3 deer so far done for now. Which is great because today is the last day I am able to hunt till opening day. I know not everyone approves of taking young deer. I’ve already got some negative response in my contest thread. But I have to say that little guy is gunna eat great! 16. There wouldn't be a law saying it would have to be done. The point being we already have far too many oppressive regulations now. Using copper bullets should be a free choice, considering the jury is still out on this case. Any law regarding remains would be aimed at deer processing facilities that draw raptors to their waste dumps. It's always legally easiest to cut with a broad sword if you're not at all concerned with the hack job you wind up with. That's why tyranny is so objectionable. Raptors are currently doing better than they have been in decades. Everyone wants to see any harm to them limited. Everyone wants to remain free too. In a free country, you don't ban anything, especially when the government has no Constitutional authority to ban anything in the first place. If you want things changed, you inform and persuade the populace to make the right choices. Free people have freedom of choice. More and more hunters ARE using copper ammo every year, but shouldn't that be a choice they get to make, as opposed to a mandate from the government?

  17. Pictures were taken this morning next neighborhood over from mine, North Shore LI. Not too many spots to hunt thats why they are growing big. It was chasing does. Couple blocks over is a main road if it keeps this up it will be road kill. He is a pretty big deer all around!

  20. I don’t take this as a jab and i will answer. So as some of you know I was out to fill a doe tag today. He came in with two other deer and he was the biggest of the 3 this made him look bigger then he was. 2nd reason today was the last day I can hunt till opening day. I know if I have that doe tag in my pocket, my partner in my camp will be bugging the hell out of me for it. It took me 3 years to get that 3h tag. Granted he’s Never shot a deer, so I should just give it to him. But he’s a real pain in my ass, and I flat out just don’t want to. 3rd I have a ton of people asking for meat so I want to be able to give some away. 4th I’ve never tagged out before and this season it’s a real possibility. 21. Bobby the bobcat is in the freezer. Ripped and replaced the carpet in my one sons bedroom and took the family for lunch. Quick scent free shower and took a long walk down to this creek bottom ladder stand. I keep seeing a nice buck pushing does around at each end of this creek bottom where it meets the roads. Hoping to catch something pushing does through here tonight.

  29. This doe was pushed into this big tuft of tall grass/bamboo by a six point as I was getting undressed at the truck. I calmly got my bow from the backseat, went around the back and got my release from my pack, walked around the front of the truck and got ti around 20 yards. She was hard quartering away so I shot just in front of her hip and got about 18" of penetration. She went a ways and the blood trail was terrible, her intestines plugged the hole. Sodfather came out and helped me track and it was a tough one between very little blood and the woods being soaked. Also the yellow maple leaves with the bright red splotches were a MENACE. I was glad he could make it and owe him big time. Shes a big girl, pic straight on doesnt show it. I have way too much stuff in the way of my scale but I'd bet shes 120+

  39. I guess some people's principles can be bought. Frankly, I know a lot of people that own sporting arms that are semi-autos just like all those super scary-looking AR-style "black rifles" that have all the libs so spooked. And those sporting rifles can fire ammo just as fast and efficient as those rifles that have been labeled assault rifles by the ignorant "Chicken Littles" that are all running around in circles worrying about the appearance of certain guns.

  40. First, The New York Times is a leftist rag that supports bigger, more invasive and oppressive government any chance it gets. It's writers believe the government is the solution to whatever ails America. This article is a prime example of a one sided propaganda piece that gives no space to any counter point and passes opinion off as unquestionable fact. Notice how it calls for an outright ban as if it has the right to pontificate on the matter with authority, without offering any other solution. That's a totalitarian mindset. Second, there are major disadvantages to non-lead bullets when compared to conventional lead bullets. Price is just one factor. They do not expand well at low velocity. They foul rifle barrels faster. Copper barrels are much harder to un-foul. When used in smaller, lower velocity rounds like the .38 Special or other pistol cartridges used in rifles, they do not expand well when striking the game animal. There are currently no .22 LR or other .22 rimfire non-lead rounds that I'm aware of, or they are not common in the market. Available copper ammo suppliers are not currently capable of meeting the demands of hunters for even one season, if conventional ammo was suddenly banned. If mandated by law, supply and demand rules of economics would wreck havoc on the price of ammo for years. Third, though it is true Bald Eagles will die if they ingest lead fragments, there is no actual evidence they are dying from eating animal gut piles, or dead animals shot with lead ammo and not recovered by hunters. More likely they are eating lead in scraps thrown in dumpsters behind deer processing facilities that are not required to cover their dumpsters to prevent it. Also, in areas where lead ammo has been banned, such as the region of the California Condor, the death rate of these birds due to lead poisoning has not changed, indicating the problem lies not with hunter's bullets, but somewhere else. Finally, the Federal government actually provides permits to windmill farms, to legally kill hundreds of raptors, including bald eagles, every year, considering them collateral damage in the quest to support "green energy" from wind sources. Choosing to ban lead ammo for hunters, places the burden of raptor relief squarely at the feet of those who have the least ability to fight back with a powerful lobby. There is also the well known desire of the government, to infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of it's citizens in every way it possibly can, to minimize the ability, or the desire of it's people, to engage in lawful firearm ownership. Banning lead ammo gives it one more way to impose oppression on the public regarding it's ability to exercise a Constitutional right. I think we should all be concerned with raptor deaths and doing our part to minimize it, but it would be much less oppressive to educate hunters using lead ammo, to bury gut piles, or not gut animals in the field. Any law should only be directed at pressuring "for profit" processing facilities, to take measures to prevent problems. It always bothers me when public entities, with little understanding of an issue, choose to scream for "simple", "common sense" solutions to problems, that are actually quite complicated. Like the adage says, "If you think the problems the government creates are bad, just wait until you see their solutions."

  41. So tonight I was rewarded for not allowing my stomach to make me stick the Doe that came in at 3:30 when I climbed up at 3:25. At 4:50 I hear a stick snap to my 4:00. Interesting. At 4:55 I hear another snap just a bit closer and look to my right(the direction deer do not usually travel). I see bone and more bone than I have ever seen on stand before. No need to count; if the shot comes I am taking it. He then meanders off the TRAIL(not a hiking or biking trail but a deer trail!!) and kicks the shit out of a sapling that wanted nothing to do with him. If he continues off roading he will be under and behind me with no shot - that’s my typical luck. But not tonight! He caught a whiff of something yummy (BUCK BOMB!) and makes a slight turn on the correct course. At 10 yards from my tree, I have no shot but I draw and hope he continues along the course. A few more steps to clear the saplings and some brush, slightly quartering away 7 yards from the base of my tree, one 1/2 step to move that front shoulder and .....zip! (5:05pm) He ran off through a thicket they use regularly, crashes around, breaks right and I lose sight of him; more trashing bushes and then silence out of my sight. And now the doubt creeps in. I cannot see my arrow but I KNOW the shot was good even though the angle was steep. Climbed down at 5:45 good blood but no arrow at hit sight. Pack up and head to my car on a different path then he ran. Call my buddy who is at work and he starts over after picking up his 10 year old son for the journey. 6:30 we start the track at the point I know he last was seen. Find good blood where I expected it, and more and more and there he lay! My best deer ever, shot from the same tree my buddy killed a big 8 (11/2) last year and I killed two doe(10/31 & 11/3). That’s the exit- double lung..no more than 100 yards. Entry was high but clearly blew up front lung as well. 188 dressed weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
