  1. Well it happened this morning. Was windy when I got In the stand. Then at about 7 am it went calm. Looked across the creek and up the side hill and saw a good sized deer walking within 10 yards of my buddy’s stand. Oh did I mention he slept in this morning and didn’t come? Looked through binos and it had a decent rack. He is about 200 yards away or better. I hit the grunt call and he turns and starts that bristled stiff legged walk towards me. I had my crossbow. Seemed like forever for him to cover that ground but he came in a straight line towards me. Got to the path I walked I. And started sniffing twigs I had rubbed against walking in. But he kept coming. 25 yards and he turned broadside to walk up a path. Shot. He bolted for about 40 yards through the thick crap and I saw him stand for a few seconds and then walk off. Gave him and hour and he was down about 15’ from the last I saw him.

  4. l've been hunting for 20 years now...with my father and a few friends by my side all of those years...I have seen numerous big deer with the bow and just have never been able to seal the deal...on 11/5 at 9:03 I finally got a poke at what I knew was a good deer...he strolled by at 38 yards and I slipped one off...I knew the shot ended up a tad low so I met with my father and backed out of the woods for 4 hours...after a dicey track job with my pops by my side... when we finally came upon him it finally sunk in that I had finally sealed the deal on a good one...the rollercoaster of emotions throughout the day is only understood by a hunter...its a day and a memory that I will always charish...10 score able pts and 205lbs dressed on the scale...

  5. Got it done. Hit the liver. But we finally caught up to him. And it's our first time our baby got his hands on a deer. Hopefully many more for him.

  7. Snowing and windy here in 7m. Deer were moving. My damn cat followed me out to my stand. Sat below it meowing. Saw deer so was trying to ignore him. Hear a crunch crunch crunch coming in behind me. Look and it’s a little coyote coming for my cat! My cat chased him a few feet then came back to my tree. He starts coming back in so I fling an arrow at him. Narrow miss. He runs ten feet and stops. Then starts sneaking back in on him. He’s in thick crap but I had to fling another one just to keep him at bay. Wasted two arrows but saved my cat!

  8. Had some success! Got that 10Pt that's been on my trail cams and that I drew back @ 30 yds on Wednesday but couldn't get a clear shot before he bolted after a doe. Turns out he's actually an 11Pt with a 1" kicker off of one of his bases. When I tried to upload a pic, the site won't allow me too. I keep getting this message saying, you're only allowed 337kb. Any idea why the site won't allow me to upload one pic.

  10. Great morning sit. Saw a pile of bucks. Got this guys pic cause he followed me in and made it difficult to get up, in and settled. Had big guy hiding out holding a doe hostage. I couldn't make out his rack. Seemed like forever but she finally came my way, ranged her at 28, he finally came out of the thick stuff, saw decent rack....he kept coming....I put him in the scope....mehhhh.....he stopped, and I passed. Great looking deer. Awesome encounter, but not coming home with me. Also saw a deer swim the creek today. Potentially one of the coolest/craziest/dumbest things I've seen a buck do in the rut. Great morning !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

  11. Finally got a buck down today! Not the biggest bruiser in the woods but with the bow season winding down I decided to take him. He came into the right of me and continued up the hill. I grunted at him twice and he turned and came to 13 yards of the treestand. When I shot he acted like I didn’t even hit him and just walked off. Straight down the trail. I waited about 1 1/2 hours then went to check the arrow. It looked good so I started blood trailing. After about 50 yards it looked like someone poured red paint down the trail. He went 142 yards and piled up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Out for an early morning sit prior to work in 3G. Situated at a pinch point in a rock wall overlooking hardwood flats. West wind and about 50 degrees. Hunting from the ground pinched between two trees growing next to a rock wall. About 10 mins after legal, heard rustling to the east and figured squirrel. Then saw movement, nice bodied young deer. Spike with slight fork on one side. Unfortunately, dead in the wrong spot with the wind. He made his way to the pinch point and pauses. Licks his nose heavy and worked the wind. I knew he would wind me. Looking dead at me but no clue I was there. He continues to work the wind and then smells me. Tail up and turns, slow run off back where he came from. Stops and looks over his shoulder, then walks 90 degrees parallel to me. Slowly moving, nosing through the leaves and munching on mast. I wait for him to step behind a tree and draw. He moves forward, completely broadside and I bleat to stop him. About 10+ yards away. Relax, let the arrow go, hear the arrow hit him and pass through. He kicks and runs about 50 yards, then slow walk off along a ridgeline. Watch him walk off and mark the point of visual loss. Uggh, I am thinking miss, liver or non-fatal hit. Gave it 30 minutes before I looked for arrow. Found the arrow embedded in a rotted blow down. Heavy dark blood. Uggh, liver shot. On the fence on what to do. Let him sit and search later or push him. I go back to point of impact. No hair visible, track is clear but no blood. Uggh again. Decide to leave him be but walk along a ridge that I can glass back where I lost him. Sit down on the ridge and hit the binos. Spot white belly. Dead deer. Go back to the point of impact and trace his trail. Not a spot of blood visible. Spike is stone dead when I get there. Very little blood outside his body or in bed. Body cavity was filled with blood when I field dressed him. Liver was shredded. In hindsight three mistakes. I'd love to tell you the deer turned on the shot and that's why I hit back, but I'd be lying. First, mistake was target panic, I aimed for deer and not a spot. Second, I pulled the shot and had poor follow through. Third, I didn't follow the arrow and confirm point of impact. I am fortunate and grateful for having taken and found the deer quickly. It was my first recurve kill and I have plenty to learn. Deer is hanging, cavity packed with ice and ready for skinning quartering tonight. Not a p&y but a trophy to me and will provide good food for the family. Many thanks to Moog for giving me advice on getting started with the recurve. I probably will bring out the crossbow to fill doe tags, but bring the recurve back out for regular season. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk

  20. Don’t take this the wrong way but shooting assuming a deer will drop into the arrow is never something I would do. Put the pin where it should be and let it rip. Even with my slow recurves I aim where I want to hit. Can’t say I have had any issues with deer jumping the string with any bow. I know it happens but I wouldn’t shoot expecting it. Maybe aim at heart at most.

  25. My son and I both had deer on the ground 200 yards apart, 10 minutes after getting to our stands on Sunday morning. It was the most amazing thing, we arrived lated, bumped 3 on the way in and didnt even have time to really get settled when the action began and texts started flying! I shot a doe and he arrowed this this big 8 at 22 yards, nose to the ground hot on the trail of the few we bumped only a few minutes before. I swear it is the fattest heaviest buck I have ever seen, taxidermist is keeping the jaw to age it. His first words were “oh man thats an old deer!” My son said he was shaking so bad, like never before and thought for sure he would blow it, but pulled it together! I couldnt be more happy for him! For size reference, he is 6’2” 220... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  31. Got it done on a medium size doe this morning. Passed on 3 small bucks and when she came sneaking through by herself I couldn't take it no more. She popped out past the tree use as a 30 yard marker held on with 40 yrd mark and spined her. Died before I could recock. I'm stoked rage opened her up large.

  32. Not much. She walked 20yds behind stand. I then had a solid 3yr buck come in. So Phade jumped in my stand. To much buck activity for doe patrol. I marked first blood and am off to a church meeting. Will recover her AFTER Brad knocks down a buck.

  37. Decided to stay closer to home to see what wind was gonna do Outside house did not seem bad get 10 minutes across town spot it’s rippin pretty good Figure I’m up mights we’ll give it a go, dragged scent line, in stand less than 10 minutes hear something and a buck right on the line. Problem is still dark and 30 minutes to legal. He wandered around me for 5+ minutes, at one time 10 feet from me. I still don’t know what it has for headgear. If I had to guess by body size a 1.5. Let’s hope I see more now that it’s legal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  41. Most fun day of the year so far still hunted 400 yards to my stand in 90 minutes...more than 1.5" snow in that time at 2000ft. 70 mins in I decided to take a leak but was still on point like Fred Bizear hung my bow (built in hanger) started my Bizness and then ofcourse I see a big brown body 20 yards upwind of me...he was walking slowly but unaware of my presence. I stalked to 15 pants undone then i saw the headgear, heavy 6 big Ys. Let him go on a ways and did up my pants Took my time to my tree (80 yards from buck encounter) and was only in it 15 minutes widowmaker was dangling nearby it was heavy snow and windy. Got back on another set of tracks on the way out (60 mins) but no more sightings... So much fun thanks Biz for invading my brain
