  1. Ok boys take a deep breath with me cause I am still shaking. Mainframe 8 with quadruple brow tines on one side and a row of junk on the other. Redneck hang a ring on it 16 points, but I am thinking 15 scorable. ? By farrrrrrrr my best buck ever. I can't believe it. Was watching 7 turkeys and they finally left and this buck cone trotting in hard. Stopped and was eating something under the snow. Was standing right next to stump I ranged at 35 yards . There was one twig in the way of the vitals. So I am waiting for what seemed like forever. Finally he takes a step and looks back hard like he is gonna bolt so I shoot and knew I hit him. He ran like 15 yards and then walked away slow and I couldn't see him anymore. This was about 4:00. I waited for half hour but that storm is coming in so I went to check bolt. Great blood on it and a pass thru. But very little blood Track for about 20 yards and no blood but a few drops. So I go another 30 yards and there is a buck. So I think it's him but it's a smaller buck and he is pacing back and forth in the same spot and doesn't know I am there. Finally he sees me and kinda trots away . I think that other deer is down and that's why he was doing that. And there he lays..... How a bow season goes to one of my toughest in years to my best ever. Still shaking....better pics tomorrow as it was snowing bad by the time I dragged him out and got to head home. Still can't believe it.

  2. Packed up. Leaving soon for the 6hr drive to WNY to hunt with TCIII and SodFather. Can’t thank them enough for letting me come hunt/stay with them. A buck would be the icing on the cake. Beers, Bullets, and GMan’s toekick heaters in the front seat! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Super black hawk .44 loaded , ML stuffed , car packed except guns. Looking forward to another opening day with my daughter who is getting picked up for ballet at 11 am. I’ll head back in til dark. Some big boys I’ve seen need to show up early for her. She’s pulled the trigger once on a deer and buck down. Hope it’s a trend. Good luck to everyone in the morning. Safe driving and safe in the woods !

  5. Took this doe on Wednesday, 11.14.18. There was a dusting of snow. Been getting trail cam shots of a tanker and I held out for him as he was running and trailing does. But alas, only a six-point yearling was following her, so I with time running out, I let the arrow fly at her at 10:30 am. A bit far back, liver hit. Got on the easy track in the snow. Bumped her from her first bed at about 75 yards. Backed out. Gave her three hours. Came back and found her next to an old farm implement in the thick stuff...after another 75 yards. She had bedded and gotten up twice more. She bedded in honey suckle and multiflora rose. Easy steady trail. Hand pruners were handy cutting through the rose stems. The six-point presented a better shot than she did, but still hoping for a shot at the big guy. But the snow moved in. But I have a buck tag for muzzleloader/bow, and some venison in the freezer.

  6. Got my first crossbow deer today. Good sized doe. She came in alone and gave me every opportunity to shoot her so I took the venison on my last archery sit of the season. After she was down I had two spikes come in. Got to watch them spar lightly which I have never witnessed before. Saw two more doe and about 4pm got another encounter with the wide white horned 8 when he came into about 25 yds but just wouldn't clear the thick brush. Would have loved to have harvested the 8 but I got an opportunity at a shooter...harvested a large doe and saw lots of deer. All and all it was a great archery season. On to rifle Saturday.

  7. The Sodfather and I will not go softly into that gun season, we are hitting it hard tomorrow. One last chance with the bows. Nothing worse than an arms length of tags in the pack on the last Friday of archery

  8. Well, on my way home from fishing I was staring into the woods and saw a nice buck about 75 yds into the woods just standing and staring. I spun around and sure enough still there, I figured the truck would spook him, nope. A few minutes later a big doe stood up, aha, now it makes sense. I drove up the road a bit to see where the state land started/stopped. They were on public! I grabbed a camo vest and my bow and made a loop around them, there was another buck in there too but the bigger one was keeping him at Bay. I got to 55-60 yds and the doe had me pinned. It was too thick to take a shot, eventually the doe trotted off with both bucks in tow... Damnit! The good news is I got a few good pics with my DSLR. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

  10. Hi all. New to the forum and just recently came across this great site and joined. Last Thursday afternoon I was fortunate enough to shoot my biggest buck. I’m down in southern tier hunting in orange and rockland counties. Took this guy in 3m over in warwick on property I have hunted for years with my brother in law. Had been a slow early season but something told me to wrap up work early last thurs and get in the woods. I get to the property around 2:15pm gear up. I grab a water bottle from my passenger seat and turn around to 3 does that stalked up behind me and were literally 10 feet away from my trunk staring at me and grazing. They wander off after checking me out for a few minutes without a care. On my way to my stand it’s pretty swampy from all the rains we’ve had. I kick up a small 6 as I take my time going in. Sprayed some estrus scent as I get to my stand. Finally get all settled in and realize what an idiot I am as I left my release in the car! I move as quietly and quickly as I can back to my car and grab my release. By time I get back to my stand I’m sweating. Aggravated with myself. Within 5 mins I hear something in the stream behind me. It’s a doe and she swims across and pops out to my right. After grazing for several minutes she bolts into the field in front of me that has high grass and thickets. I scan to my right to see what may have startled her and see the sun hitting something behind some small trees. I took a double take when I realized how big this buck was. He followed the doe into the field but I had no shot. As I watched and gave some grunts he kept his distance. At that point 3 more bucks came in and left chasing a couple other does. But this guy and a smaller buck stayed in the field. I watched him rub up a tree and hang out in the field for 30 mins. I tried bleats and more grunts and he would stop and, listen but not come close. Finally I gave a few more aggressive grunts and he lowered his head and went into the heavy brush straight in front of me. I got ready and he stepped out into the clearing at 25 yds and I hit him good. He took off back across the field and disappeared out of sight. But I was confident I hit him good. After half hour I got down and found my arrow. Had a very good blood trail but I waited some more before following it and finding him about 60 yds across the field. I was hunting by myself so dragging and getting him into my trunk was a hell of an effort. But it was the most amazing hunt of my life and I am so grateful! 190 lbs 8 pts

  12. My biggest buck ever! Its a redneck (ring fits on it) 16 points! I have to check today for which points are scoreable or not. I know 13 are. Possible 15. 4 brows on one side, junk all over. Shot it about 4 pm at 35 yards with crossbow. It went about 70 yards. Thank goodness because of the storm that came in. Hoping to get better pics later but with storm its prob gonna be a 12 hour work day. Still cant believe it. Went from my worst bow season in years to my best ever. He came in and stood eating something under snow right next to a stump i ranged at 35 yards. Had a branch in the way and he just stood there - please take one step ... please. And i was actually very calm and sometimes im a mess and shaking with a doe. He moved one step and whipped his head back up and looked behind him and i knew he was gonna bolt , took the shot and knew i hit him. He ran about 10 yards and the slowly walked away and i couldnt see him anymore. I waited til 4:30 and with the storm coming had to make a move. So i got down and snuck over to find arrow. Red and good blood for sure. But from there almost no blood. So i started to go on track real slow as i didnt want to jump him. and uh oh theres a deer! pull up to shoot and realize its no the same buck. Big body but smaller rack. He doesnt know i am there and he is pacing back and forth. And i think ... i bet my buck is laying right there!!!! The other buck finally notices me and trots off. I walk over and there he lays!!!!!!! Called a couple of buddies but had it dragged out to rd by the time they got there. Thank goodness they came cause i couldnt get it in the truck myself for sure. Took some quick pics and got out of there as snow was starting to get bad. next to last day of bow season and it went out big! was shaking for hours. A long long drag out of the woods and along cornfields and all could do was smile !

  13. One extremely windy day (~40mph gusts), I saw the #2 biggest buck that I had on trail cam about 200 yards away walking in my direction. At 80 yards, he veered off the path and took another route. I grunted as loud as I could to get his attention, but no luck. The wind was also blowing away from the buck, so he couldn’t smell the doe in estrus scent either. I’ve considered getting a decoy for years, but never did it. This made me determined to get a decoy for next year! But, WHY wait until next year? The bucks were just starting to look for does. Especially on windy days, like we’ve had so many of this year, if they can’t hear or smell the “does”, then giving them a visual would help. So, I ran out that day and purchased a buck decoy, that without the antlers, would pass for a doe. I was concerned about any plastic odor, so I put the decoy in my truck, and ran my Scent Crusher Ozone Go Vehicle Air Cleaner and also later sprayed it down with scent killer spray. I started using it that same evening and every buck that saw the decoy, came right into it! I had 8 different bucks, of all sizes, come to it during 5 different hunts. Some would leave for a while and later swing back by the decoy again up to 4 times! I even had a buck bed down 30 yards from the decoy. It was working like a charm! On this particular hunt, I saw a buck step out of the thicket ~80 yards away. As soon as he spotted the doe decoy, he came in without any hesitation, like he was on a string! I could see that he wasn’t as big of a buck as I was hoping for, but he was a big ass 6pt and I would be happy with him! When he got to 25 yards and directly broadside, I took my shot. I saw that it was a good hit and he bolted. I heard him crash just a few yards into the woods. He only made it 20 yards from the shot, before tipping over. First buck with the new Hoyt! This is the exit hole.

  14. My biggest buck ever. If a point is considered an inch. Then I am going with a 15 point here. ( One other point holds a ring but not an inch) Mainframe eight with 4 brows on one side double brow on other and a group of three points on base and they measure an inch from beam. Still can't believe it.

  25. I joined this forum and waited a week to be approved just to quote this! Reminds me of the time I got excited when I heard the rustle of leaves moving toward me and out pops my family dog through the brush. I was a good half mile behind the house too but she still found me

  28. Congrats to those who got it done, especially CabinFever and RobHunt&Fish. I'm back home after 6 days of rifle hunting. I wasn't up for sitting in another snowstorm, so I am home watching the birds at the feeders, and keeping an eye out on the fields out front. Hunted roughly 45 hours in 6 days. Saw 14 deer. The only bucks I saw were a 3 point that wasn't 100lbs and the same spike twice. My count doesn't include deer I saw that were on the other side of the neighbor's posted signs. I made three all-day sits. We had snow the entire time. I sat dark to dark through the last snowstorm and saw nothing. Yesterday I saw 8 deer in the evening. They were moving before today's snowfall. We had a foot of snow at the farm yesterday, with another 8-10" forecasted for today. I didn't have much on my cameras, and discovered thieves got one of my treestands and a set of climbing sticks. I need to figure out how to deal with that situation. I spent a little time in a new spot where I had a few nice bucks on camera, but all the action was at night. The snow is coming down steady now. I'm recharging, plowing the driveway, filling the wood box, checking a couple cams mid-day and probably sitting for a couple hours before dark. I will be stuck here a the house for 4 days while the missus is gone to Florida. It's been a long time since I had anything on the schedule during VT rifle season. Oh well. Good luck everyone. Shoot straight.

  34. A foot or so? Got a knee, that doesn't like long walks through deep snow anymore. But I do have snowshoes, that is a possibility. Also dug out the chains for my wheeler too. That will get me through the fields. And the snow isn't the wet heavy variety, so that does make it easier. Will think up the plan for the morning, doing snow removal, now that it has ended. An opening morning with snow on the ground is exciting to me! Can't wait to get it started! Keep safe and best of luck out there!

  39. Got some better pictures of my buck. After two years of chasing him I finally got to stick an arrow in him at 40 yards. He came out into the field nose to the ground headed for the lone doe feeding in the field. He closed the distance fast and I had to scramble to get ready. He stopped at 40 yards to sniff the doe and when he did I drew back, settled the pin and let it rip. He ran about 50 yards and piled up.

  40. Joshua Gawrysiak ended his 5 year quest last Saturday with the taking of a 19 pt. buck near Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. He shot the beast with his Matthews Compound Bow at about 20 yards. The big boy was following a doe..... Joshua believes the buck was 5 or 6 years old. He has set up a GOFUNDME account in an attempt to raise $3,000 for a full body mount.

  43. I used a product called shoe goo before. I got it from Wall-Mart if i remember right. You put it on in thin layers and its bendable when its fully dried so its perfect for the toe and heal areas. I've had it on a pair of boots for about 2 years now and I never had to redo the repair.

  45. My snow camo is WAAAAY too noisy for hunting. Sounds like I'm wearing a paper bag whenever I so much as raise my hand. If there's snow on the ground, I'll definitely pull it out for the field photos just because I think it looks cool! Doesn't make any difference to me whether I killed while wearing it or not.

  46. Finally got a buck down today! Not the biggest bruiser in the woods but with the bow season winding down I decided to take him. He came into the right of me and continued up the hill. I grunted at him twice and he turned and came to 13 yards of the treestand. When I shot he acted like I didn’t even hit him and just walked off. Straight down the trail. I waited about 1 1/2 hours then went to check the arrow. It looked good so I started blood trailing. After about 50 yards it looked like someone poured red paint down the trail. He went 142 yards and piled up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
