  1. So ive been with my wife for 10yrs now when we first got together we had nothing, both working crap jobs, shit credit. But with the kids we kept pushing ourselves to get better. We bought a crap trailor for cash so we had no rent and managed to get alot of our debt payed off. Wife worked up to admin. in her company and i switched jobs and worked my way up a little bit as well. So this year we made the decision to get our forever home and we found it on a little lake in our town. We dont have a lake view but the view out the living room is my favorite. Sorry for the story. Maybe hoping if it helps someone on here that is in the same situation i was 10 years ago. That with hard work you can get what you want. Not easy but it can happen. Thanks for reading.

  2. Not exactly live but I was busy pushing all day yesterday instead of live from the treestand. There were 10 of us and we did 7 different pushes on different areas of the property. Not as productive as last year but not bad either. The guys were able to take 3 doe and a nice 6pt with no brow tines. 1 coyote. I missed on a long poke at a coyote. It seemed like we pushed out more coyote than deer but several shots were taken at them, all but one being misses. Two guys got a look at a big boy but he went through so fast no shots were able to be taken. It was a nice last day, hanging out with boys. I need to get some boots that are better for walking than the 2000 Gram Cabela's boots I got. They are heavy and by the end of the day I felt like I was lifting cement blocks. Can't believe the season is over already. Where does the time go. Here is a pic of the 6

  4. Got my “butcher shop” ready to process deer later today. Tenderloins are seasoned and ready for the skillet to start things off! Brother hooked me up with another nice big slab of granite! Cannot wait to get out with my flinty! Good luck to the hunters in the woods today!

  5. Had a good morning today.........a doe and two fawns came i n and hung around for ten minutes right around sunrise. They were on a finger ridge between a couple small gullies and there was no way they could/should wind me. All of a sudden one of the fawns got nervous and started looking right at me, 90 yards away. Then the doe got wondering WTH and started to walk up the hill away from me. For a second I couldn't sort things out as I surely didn't want to cork a fawn. I put the scope on one and new darned sure she was the one I wanted as I saw a big deep chest. I took the shot and she and the fawns ran the right direction. I went up and gutted her but left the my phone i n my coat pocket back at the stand.......went back to the stand and sat till 9am, hoping a coyote would come mooching along or another good doe. Neither did. I put her on the scale and she went 133lbs, quite a nice doe! A great way to close out the rifle season. BTW, I used my .260 Remington for the first time since having it built 6-8 years ago.

  8. Thank you WNY for hosting Kati and myself today. Well with just a half hour left in the regular season Kati got her very first deer using my Encore in 308. Before September she had never even shot a firearm. Now she has taken her hunter safety course, practiced at the range and spent 3-1/2 days sitting on stand. She even field dressed this deer by herself and tomorrow will be skinning and butchering it. I am so proud of her and honored to have been by her side for this. I’ll wait for her to tell the story but I will say she made a perfect shot through a very tight window at 90 yards. Just perfect.

  10. Great day today! My hunting partner and I were looking to top off the freezers with a nice round doe. So we did some loops to each other, and each saw a decent buck! No doe's. Took a ride to Berne, for an afternoon coffee, and ran into biggamefish and his beautiful little girl. Had a nice little chat, and went back for one more little push. Decided to push the thick nasties along the creek bottom, behind the barn. I put Gary on the end, down by the big food plot. I got down in the thick stuff, bordered by some swamp grass, went about 75 yards and jumped the big nine I'd seen a few times during bow season!!! He jumped the creek, ran up the side hill and stopped in an opening, about 80 yards away and looked back at me. Almost, as if to say "see ya next year grampy"? As we looked at each other, I just nodded, and softly said,....."yup, see ya next year". Finished the little drive, again no doe to Gary, and legal time had come to close the season. Driving home, in the field, just above the farm at last light, stood nine doe!! May dust off the ML for next weekend, weather permitting. But it's been a good season, where we each took an eight point under real tough conditions. Shared a lot of laughs. And learned a bunch this year! It doesn't get much better than that. Dr,s appointment in the morning. Hoping that goes as well as my season!

  15. I just wanted to share a little something that I aquired from my dad tonight. I don’t post much about smoking meats, and processing etc. partly due to the fact that my father, and I use venison for making homemade smoked snack sticks, home made smoked sausage, etc and how we both are not successful huntersas far as harvesting goes. Anyways, my grandpa grew up in PA near Lancaster, and was raised on the farm making home smoked, and cured meats, pickled foods, scrapple, and so on. These meat hooks were my dad’s great grandparents, and they used them to hang meat in their smokers. My dad has used a few of them over the years as well, and he gave me a couple that he used, in addition to a few he has not used. These may not look like much, but these are unbelievably meaningful, and I cannot be happier to display them in my home. I just wanted to share, dad says they have to be over a hundred years old.

  16. Like Rattler, I am still using my original TC Hawken ( .50 cal) vintage appx. 1974 with a TC aftermarket tang peep sight. I'm currently shooting a .490 patched round ball ahead of 80 grains ( volume) of 3F 777.. I converted the nipple to 209 primers a couple of years ago... I have never tried a shot over 75 yards with the rifle...When I hunted with Moog this year, the deer came out appx 100 yards away, and my bead at that distance looked about the same size as the whole deer...Hehehe..I was more than happy to use Moog's BEAUTIFUL scope sighted Encore...<<grin>>…. However my old Hawken has served me well over the years..It has accounted for lots of critters, including my best scoring whitetail buck and my one and only bull elk ( 6x6)….

  26. My deer hunting season has come to an end. I could always do a late season bow hunt but I just don’t see that happening one of these years I’ll get a muzzle loader. From October 1st to December 9th I saw tons off deer but never drew back on the bow and only fired my gun once. That one time just happened to be on a buck of a life time! I truly wish I took more deer for various reasons and feel a bit disappointed in the season but I have to keep reminding myself how fortunate I am to have taken even one as many friends and forum members did not harvest any. I can’t wait to see my buck up on the wall and have a laundry list of things I want to learn and do to make next season even more fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  28. Well for me it is over, tag soup for only the second time in my 56 years of deer hunting. It actually ended yesterday with an experience I have never encountered in the wild before. In my favorite tree on the edge of an alfalfa field, white oak stand to my right. Caught movement on the west side of the field about 100 yards out. Could only see the backs and could nor identify. Suddenly they came up over a small ridge in the field, two of the most beautiful bobcats, one medium size and one very large. The two of them were hunting for moles or mice for about 20 minutes before they went up into the oaks. It made my 2018 season. To all of you guys and girls that have put in the hours and enjoyed the outdoors, please accept my sincere thanks for letting me live your hunt on this forum and may all of you have a joyous holiday season and a very prosperous New Year.

  32. Still getting the job done with my original ML. A T/C Hawken cap lock built from a kit in .45 caliber. Iron sights. Loading a T/C Maxi-Hunter bullet over a measured 90 grain by volume Pyrodex charge. The set trigger puts them into a 2" group at 100 yards and has been doing so for decades. It's the bottom one. The others are never hunted.

  33. If you send me a clean pic of your place with north a d prominent wind direction. Marked I can draw some thing, bowtie,, hourglass, L shaped , Z shaped, M shaped .all will make a buck come to the pinch points to see as much of the field as possible , or get downwind to scent check it.. plot design is the most over looked thing in plotting as well as talking into account the dominant doe will not allow any other family group in that plot if she can see them , sometime s split up plot allows more deer to feed as different family groups can enter and use the field at same time. Sometimes barriers must be created to make views hard or entry points limited by deer for hunting purposes. Every property will need it's own design to fit terrain and conditions as well as population

  35. I thought I posted this before but maybe it was in the wrong thread? It was opening day in 9F, I sat all morning didn't see anything. I was walking back to the house and i jumped a hot doe with 2 bucks in tow. No shot. I decided to sit i the stand I have in the area she headed earlier. I got in the stand at 3:15 and i shot this guy at 3:29! I know this because i texted my buddy when i got to the stand and again right after i shot! I have had this buck on camera for 3 years in a row and he has always been a wide 6 pt. Field dressed 185lbs.

  36. Magic hour. Had I seen and shot the doe behind me at first light I would have been home 7.5 hours ago. Hoping they’re hungry and hit this plot soon.

  37. I would hand some orange clothes in the woods and leave them so you can't tell its not a person. Let him call the DEC on nothing and see how they like that. If asked tell them you leave them in the woods to keep scent off.

  38. To be continued this week with the ML.. Cam has had 2 different bucks freshening up a scrape/ licking branch around 4:30pm this past week. That cam is 60 yds from my stand. Had one of the bucks come out like clockwork at 4:30pm but he got my wind and bolted because I was facing the other way photographing this little guy..

  39. I just remembered we had a girth tape at camp and that we measured my buck from 2006. I dont have a picture of the scale, but the butcher shop weighed it and told me dressed weight was 207# the 2nd biggest that year as of Thanksgiving day.. This deer was 5.5+. The buck that created my madness for mature whitetails.. Im no pro but this is what we got for numbers...
