  1. Here is the official group pic. I have the list of names, but there are a few that I am not sure about. Waiting on TF to review. From sodfather's post, that might be later in the day . . . .

  6. It was a great turn out. We will have to wait for the recording secretary to post up the members and guests in attendance for the night. I think TF even got a pic on his phone of the entire table. I bet we had 20 there. Biz even made a guest appearance via Face time which honestly was a bit disturbing!

  9. Are you sure it is the wheel bearing giving you the play and not the ball joints? In my experience you can hear wheel bearings long before they have play in them and the sound of the bearing will change as you load and unload it going around corners.

  14. Nov 17, 2018. Upstate NY A Catskill Mountain deer season starts. Snow fell 24 hours earlier. Cloudy, windless, good snow, 28 degrees. In darkness, we hike uphill. With John settled, I head further uphill. At 2100 feet, I climb the ladder. Now wait. Season 48 now. How many do I have left? One can’t hunt if weak. I’m fit, but far from my prime. I focus on shedding weight, in equipment and myself. The mountains keep getting steeper. Keep exercising. Daylight, then legal time. It’s quiet. Nothing moves for two hours. A shot to the south stirs me. A kill? Half an hour later, a shot far east. Coyote? Not long after, a closer shot to the north, then another follows. A miss? I look for movement, Kimber Montana in hand, a 7mm-08 chambered. Movement. Binoculars identify a shooter! It’s running. I mouth a bleat to stop it. My scope finds the heart. I shoot once. Photos follow. It sports only my hit. I gut, drag and hang it. Nice 8 point. Good mass. Goes 160 dressed, maybe 200 alive. My biggest yet. I still have enough in me. God willing, next year I will too.

  27. Good luck, Pilgrim..!! I hope you find a good hunt..I have never done many out of state whitetail hunts ( other than PA) because if I pay the money to hunt out of state, I'd rather hunt a species that I cannot hunt in my on back yard.. You are from Jasper, eh ??You may be my illegitimate son ( or grandson)….Hehehe...

  28. Overall, I would rank it well above average of my 36 deer seasons, about 4 from the top. Were it not for a couple of mishaps on does late, it would have ranked higher. On the fifth year of trying with my crossbow, I was finally able to punch a DMP tag. The best part was: it turned out to be a giant button-buck, rather than the mature doe that I thought it was, when I released the bolt. Bucks (with or without protruding antlers) are much easier for me to process, with less fat to trim. There is no deer more appreciated on the dinner table by my family than a button buck. On my last day of crossbow hunting, I blew it on a mature (182 pound field dressed) swamp-buck, when he caught me putting the shiny chrome cup/top back on my Stanley cider thermos. He still had all (8) points then, and would have been my highest scoring buck (10" G-2's, perfectly symmetric), had I killed him on that day. In the photo, that thermos is over my right shoulder as I was filling out his carcass tag . A last minute stand move and my slug gun did him in less than a week later, minus a couple of antler points. Those missing points saved me the expense of a shoulder mount anyhow. I would have rather put my archery tag on him though, because using the gun tag kept me from deer hunting over Thanksgiving up in the northern zone. The deer hunting up there was better than last year, on my other three trips, with more deer sightings but none with antlers. That was where I missed my last doe, during the late ML season, due to an unseen branch that deflected my bullet. While it was a very good season for me, it would have been better without those two missed does (I messed up on another one twice due to a mis-fire and a bad running shot - you can read the details of that one in my "lessons learned thread if interested)), and better yet had I been able to fill my archery/ML buck tag. Like He has always done, The Good Lord blessed us with all the venison we need this season (a friend also provided us with a couple, including the first doe fawn that I have ever processed). I would have liked to have been able to kill a few more myself, to give to others in need, but it was not to be. Hopefully those two does that I missed clean will give birth to bucks that will be far more appreciated by someone. I got to assume that was His plan for them.

  31. Ive killed many deer with my 06 using the TSX and the TTSX in 180 grains. I really should be using 150's, but the 180's have been working for me so why change whats working. Penetration is outstanding and the accuracy is great as well. You'll probably get pass throughs on moose and elk. Randy newburgh on youtube uses the E-tips on elk and he has great success.

  34. I have been shooting TSX and TTSX bullets for several years now...I load the 120 Grain in the 7MM08 at around 3000fps, the 140 grain in the .280 Rem at about 3000 fps, and the 250 grain in the 9.3x62 at around 2600 fps... I have had excellent accuracy and terminal performance on deer with the 7MMs and on deer, caribou and moose with the 9.3... ALWAYS an exit hole on broadside shots.....

  40. I would say you are correct but would be willing to bet that if the "working" population were in a category by themselves the results would show a decline. Those who see all the freebies being handed out and are working their tails off to pay taxes so others can reap the benefits are looking for a better way which often leads to somewhere else.

  41. Well the season is a wrap. All the gear cleaned up and put away. Guns cleaned and freezer looking good. I had a good season overall. It would have been a great season if I did not have operator error issues!! Hunted lees than usual in bow but harvested a nice doe and missed a dandy buck. Took a solid buck and doe in gun and missed a doe. First time I remember in over 3 decades that I had snow on the ground every day of gun season! I was pleased with my stand I put up in a state spot as it gave me the opportunity at a great buck and a couple does. I saw deer 90% of my sits there. Overall my sightings for my area were good. The boy took two does on our NC trip. He did not get out more than a half dozen times at home. He is 16 and has a lot of distractions. He hates the mornings and he hates the cold....I don't push him to go if he does not want to. The brother got one in NC and one here. Unfortunately my BIL did not get one. He started a new job and missed bow season entirely. I really like that I had a lot of opportunities and took two off my land. The tower plot has given me a deer that last couple of years and I have plans to upgrade the tower more as I really enjoyed heat lol! Anyhow, bittersweet as I will enjoy a break but miss the hunt already!! Happy Holidays all!!

  45. He absolutely loves to rub it in everyone's face. My dislike for him goes far beyond guns. I just can't stand the attitude he has. Like he knows everything and everyone else is a total idiot. It drives me crazy that people are just fine with his arrogance and keep voting him in. Trump can be an arrogant cuss, too, but Cuomo honestly has him beat in how he talks down to the people he is supposed to represent. Trump generally will talk down to the media and other politicians, but in general he is not too harsh on the average guy on the street who doesn't deserve it.

  46. My wife and I decided we're outa here in 3 or 4yrs. We've had enough of this arrogant, pompous tyrant. This state is never going to get any better. I always tried to be optimistic that things will get better but I'm getting to the age where I can't afford to keep waiting . I decided to move to a state that had everything I wanted, so I just bought 75 acres of prime whitetail habitat in southern Ohio.Plan to retire down there in 3 or 4 yrs.
