The man works and has other interests, same as the majority of hunters. I know Im not willing to spend the time necessary to consistently kill big deer because I'd rather fish, hunt small game, archery, play golf etc. And that stuff all takes a backseat to a minimum of 15 weekends of my kids' activities. So I hunt deer as much as I can and am thrilled with whatever I kill. Every few years its a nice mature buck, most years it isnt and you will never hear me complain. But to respond to your main point: Yes, every time I get in a stand I'm hoping to kill the biggest buck in the woods, no question

Here are some FACTS for ya.......... Most hunters would like to see or shoot a big buck while deer hunting. Most hunters don't mind if they don't kill anything on a given hunt. Much more to hunting than killing. Most hunters would still be out hunting, even if they couldn't shoot a buck. Hunting is something different for every individual. Not a one size fits all. Sometimes intelligent people, have not a clue. As they refuse to listen. Some self proclaimed deer expert and his know nothing, stormy little yap dog, are really annoying. Some people really are totally blinded by their own misguided sense of self worth. The self proclaimed expert just loves to argue a point. That after a while loses all meaning, to anyone but himself. That FSW will come back with a snarky remark to this post, while I laugh my ass off. And feel sadness for his sorry ass. Those are some facts as grampy see's them. And I too think it silly to talk of myself in the third person.

BS.... What is a proven fact is that I can go deer hunting or any other type of hunting, never see or harvest a thing and still enjoy the day. I think it is called a love for the outdoors.

I like deer meat, I like deer antlers, I like deer hunting. I don't know or care about the order. Buuuut I know my father doesnt give a sh*t about antlers. If he shoots a buck he cuts off the antlers to give to me to use. Same goes for sheds he finds. Is he not a hunter? Or is a hunter that disproves FSWs fact?

Actually this driving reason that got me out of bed this year didn't involve me even thinking I was going to be taking a big buck, or any deer for that matter.

Not getting sucked in to your lunacy FSW. If the point you are trying to make is that most people would prefer to kill a big buck vs a small buck, I agree. If the point you are trying to make is that killing a big buck is the reason people hunt, I disagree - indeed my many days of sitting in a stand when I knew I couldn't do so puts my money where my mouth is. My stance is clear to anyone with reasonable intelligence. Leaving it at that!

Some folks on here can't tell the difference between a preference and a driving desire. Turn the clocks back a few years when the DEC had that brain fart and made couple weeks doe only during archery in the high population areas. I didn't hunt. Was it becasue I wasn't gong to hunt and all I wanted was to shoot a buck? nah. I was more or less just protesting and not giving them what they wanted. Most years those first two or three weeks are when I am shooting does anyway. But if that regulation had stuck I sure would have been out there in subsequent years. I do some scouting and some years even toss in some plots. Even have run cameras in years past. Just trying to better my odds. I like to think I am a decent hunter but most of my good bucks are just a byproduct of my hunting not a byproduct of me hunting big bucks. if that makes sense. If I am in a stand and a doe and a spike and a 150 class buck walk out I am going to take the shot at the 150 all day long. Why, becasue I live to hunt big bucks and they are what define me? Nah. but they don't come around very often and that is what makes them special. I don't see one every day and that is why my heart races more than normal when a doe walks out. I can't even tell you the number of doe I have shot in my hunting career. But what i would call really good bucks I could count on one hand. Should be about 4 hands if I hand't screwed them up..lol

Grampy, I think the power of "FACT" only works when you add it to the beginning of each statement. For example: FACT. Most hunters would like to see or shoot a big buck while deer hunting. FACT. Most hunters would still be out hunting, even if they couldn't shoot a buck. FACT. FACT. Hunting is something different for every individual. Not a one size fits all. FACT. That's like 200% of truth right there and therefore is incontestable.

You already know that I wouldn't. I have said I prefer trying to target bigger bucks - so long as I don't loose sight of why I hunt. The open season buck happened to be the specific buck I was targeting on that hunt - doesn't work that way often. I also shot two does and was with others who shot does. I like hunting no matter what. Do I want to shoot bigger bucks, sure I do. Is it the reason I hunt, nope. I enjoy being out there. You know how many times in bow I hunted after killing my buck and a doe with no intent to kill anything? Or how many days in gun season I sat knowing I wouldn't pull the trigger? Quite a few. Like you, I hunt areas where killing does is not all that hard but I left tags unfilled this year by choice. Yet I still was out there. Big bucks are NOT the only driving force for me. There is more to it than that for me - perhaps not for you.

Oh hell no, I love hunting deer. I kill 4-5 each season and most years I do fill my buck tag opening day of gun. Bow season I try and hold out for a big buck but shoot the first doe I can
