  1. Gonna use this guy as a bench end. Have to add some eyeballs.., finish up the base.., and let him drink another can of varnish. Just need to carve up something for the other side now and put it all together. Quick eagle I just finished up the other day too.

  2. Finally got out for a few hours in between rain showers to change some camera cards and look around for sheds. Found one the mice got to already, and then found a matched set laying next to each other. First time finding a set. Found two deer kill sites and a turkey kill site. Found a bear den too. Black tufts of hair on those broken roots. Productive hike in 60 degree temps!

  5. Have to think the 9th Circus reverses this decision and then the case is petitioned to SCOTUS. I don't trust Roberts in the least so hopefully another liberal seat opens up for Trump to fill and the Senate fast-tracks the nominee in a big, bold FU to the Dems for what they did to Kavanaugh.

  9. Sorry for the crappy picture quality, my buddy's phone won't transfer in full resolution. Short trip to the SR yesterday and the fish were active, slightly warmer water even has the freshies airborne on hookset. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  10. My nephew's 870 had the original x full tube. He killed a bird every year till he passed in '98. I still have his 870, and use it every few yrs. Killed a few birds at 40 yrds. His same choke in my NWTF 1100 wouldn't kill a ostrich at 30 yrds. So, ask 10 people the best choke, you'll get 11 answers.

  12. Absolutely nothing wrong with legally shooting young bucks. Over the years I've shot a good number of them. And proud of every one of em too! At this stage of my hunting career, I "choose" to hunt bucks with a little more age on them for the added challenge. But in no way does that mean I'll "never" shoot another young one! Depends on the circumstances? It is very important to me, to not lose sight of why I hunt. And not be caught up in the quest to shoot older bucks, and lose sight of the many reasons I enjoy being out there! Shoot What You Like...........Like What You Shoot. Pretty simple recipe for deer hunting enjoyment. No one size fits all. No hunter should ever question, what another hunter decides to shoot! And no hunter should ever feel diminished by what they "choose" to shoot. It's all hunting. And it's all good my friends.

  13. This guy did nothing wrong. He legally harvested a rare white wild turkey. For that, ESPN's Olbermann insults him and calls for people to make his life a "living hell". This is the type of anti-hunting thing that has to stop. No laws were broken and nothing should be allowed to happen to anyone who isn't doing anything wrong. https://www.nraila.org/articles/20190329/espn-sportscaster-attacks-sportsman

  17. Thanks for the quick intel guys! And especially for the offers to try one out. Just ordered a jelly head. Sold out on a lot of sites, but Amazon had some. I’ll have to get some different ammo to try out with it for next weekend.

  18. There needs to be repercussions for a guy calling on his million Twitter followers to harass someone (Or worse). This seems like the easiest lawsuit ever and I hope the guy sues the crap out of him. Also, I think I hate KO more than anyone else in the media. I enjoy his frequent firings and beatdowns at the hands of Anne Coulter

  22. Theres several components to this.... First if there is legal quota most game animals being marketed to international hunters by reputable outfits is exportable and will tell you when they are not for your country. BUT some animal species cannot be imported due to our USF&G dept. (red stag is not one of them)Cheetah for example can be legally hunted, but not imported to US or Australia, but can be imported in Europe and Canada. Second there are some countries that allow animals parts to be immediately packed and taken home with basic in country paperwork on the spot for export in luggage.. BUT they have to be appropriately dried and salted for import and checked on import to the US by both customs and USF&W. All paperwork has to be in order. For example it quick to get export paperwork in New Zealand, you just need a few extra days after taking an animal to dry the cape and clean up the skull. (Can even bring back meat from New Zealand on a stag hunt) Third many countries (most in reality) require a quarantine period for document checks for legality of hunt when outfit must submit paperwork and a set procedure for disinfectant to be applied for export. Most African countries bureaucracies move at their own pace and 90 days legal time frames often stretch out longer depending how much grease is applied to the rails, time of year, promptness of submitting paperwork (and you are often hunting land not owned by outfit and both outfit and legal land controlling party need to submit paperwork). A year is not uncommon from hunt to arrival in US of raw trophies. Argentina has a reputation of being expensive to have trophies shipped home. There are few players in the game and they put the screws to hunters. $800-$1200 for a set of stag antlers and cape would be about average from who I have talked to. You cannot immediate export; they have to go through dip and pack at approved facility. Gun import in Argentina is also ominous and outfits are making a tidy profit on renting guns, so they seem to have little interest in changing the system. But there are outfits now including rentals with pricing. Shipping trophies is a sticky subject due to cost, I've become selective on what is shipped (its based on weight and volume), dip and pack (D&P) costs and import costs. Good portion are now leaving everything behind for hunts and rolling the taxidermy costs into more hunts.

  25. Pattern the gun with several different types of ammo. Some loads pattern tighter than others. You may not need another choke. If you do try a tighter choke, again try different and ammo and see which is best. Extended or flush, your choice.

  31. When a hunter first starts out, a buck any buck is s trophy. it was to me, I can remember my first spike he was small and the guys at deer camp were kiding me about the size. My dad spoke right up and said it takes a good shot to hit the smaller ones. It instantly made me feel good about my deer. As I have gotten older I have passed up a bunch of smaller deer and don’t regret it. But this only shooting big bucks has a negative effect on younger/ new hunters. I’ve seen this first hand with my son and wife, they wanted to shoot bigger bucks right from the get go and passing up deer started having a negative effect on them. Let’s face it the end goal of hunting is shooting a animal to enjoy the meat and the accomplishment of making a good kill. Well I could see they both were loosing interest because going hunting and not pulling the trigger or releasing a arrow is well anticlimactic and at times boring. Told them we needed to start hunting for meat and the antlers will come, and what do you know I could see their interest return and they wanted to go hunting more, because they knew that it was ok to shoot a deer any deer.

  34. Interesting development in New Zealand hunting circles last few days.... New Zealand Police have suspended incoming non resident gun permits after the mosque shooting. Right now is the start of their fall deer season and the upcoming Stag roar, and when the mountain game like Tahr and Chamois have full developed winter coats and come down in elevation for the winter; so its the peak of incoming hunters. Gonna have some pretty pissed off folks in the industry. It was pretty easy when I went, $20 and 20 minutes all done......looks like those days are long gone.

  40. I hunted Uruguay, right next door. Flew into Buenos Aires, ARG though; birds were better at that date in URG(slight difference in crop dates with location). Anyway; Booking any hunt domestic or international is all the same regardless of state or country; its all about finding the experience you want and how you think of it in your head and then finding the outfit who can give you that experience or as close as possible for the species. Planning is a fun part of the hunt, good luck.

But good news they are going to talk with me to the farmer who rents there field and see if he will let me rent his 25 acre woods. Figured it wouldnt hurt to have some extra help trying to get the piece. I already have rights to retrieve any game talked to him last year.
