  1. We added 29 new hunters to our ranks today, from our NYS Hunter Education Course! About half kids, and the other half was split between adult women and men. A cold blustery day out there for the field exercises, but all passed with good scores! A great class. They asked lots of questions, even during break times. I arrived at 7am, for set up, and sign in, and left at 5:20pm, after clean up. Was also there last night after work for an hour or so. But the high fives and smiling faces, after handing out their certificates, was so much worth any time spent. This giving back to something, I've loved my whole life, is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. After today, there are 29 more hunters out there that I'd be proud to share the woods with.

  2. It was a long day 8am-4:30 of sitting in a room especially for her age I think but she did it. Only got 3 wrong on the 50 question test. Was shocked that out of 30 taking the class that there was only 7 kids. The instructors were great and to take that much time out of a Saturday for free is even greater.

  3. Tomorrow morning is the day, daughter completed the 9 chapters and the 5 page homework packet. I must say it’s been enjoyable going back to my hunting roots and some of the minor safety precautions that are easily overlooked. Example , I don’t think I ever had a hunting plan that I left at home in case I got lost or something happened to me. Can’t wait for the morning I’m sure she will do fine but she is extremely nervous

  4. TARGET! My future son in law has gotten me interested in traditional archery again. I dug this out of the hay loft. This had spent nearly 21 years up there. It was in 4 pieces, faded, and covered with pigeon dung when I brought it down. I spent an hour the day before yesterday gluing the pieces together with Glidden Gripper Primer. I pinned it with bamboo BBQ skewers with pointed ends ground on cedar arrow shafts for reinforcement. I spent yesterday painting ir with some red oxide primer, satin black and red spray paint. I used the Gripper Primer to do the batted wing feathers and white crown. Some serving thread made the finishing touch with a wavy beard.

  5. Daughter takes her hunting course first weekend in may then we are going to try and kill a turkey. So we went to the range today. She shot the H&R 20gauge and mossberg 500 20gauge. Shes going with the single shot. Grouped great out to 30yrds and small enough for her to lug around all day if needed.

  6. Many people today are inconsiderate, oblivious or both. You can identify them by the headphones or their face in the phone. That being said, it does seem to be an improvement over carrying a huge boom box on their shoulder.

  8. Tonight I picked up my buck that I shot On the first day of the 2017 crossbow season. He had sat in my freezer for a year before I had a chance to get him down to WNYBowhunter. He turned out beautiful! This buck had a busted off G2 and G3 when I shot him, but I had Some trail cam picks from before he got busted up and WNYBowhunter did an amazing job restoring his rack! I’m glad to finally have this guy up on my wall! Thanks again Jason! Hopefully I’ll have another one for ya this year!

  9. Hey Greg ya there was 3 females one was probably mid 40’s and other two were low 20’s girls. Then the men were %70 in there 25-35 age range and the remaining were age of 50-60 years old. The instructors flat out asked why are you here at this age? They just said that they’ve always wanted to hunt just never had someone to go with or enjoy with.

  10. I don't pay for any of that stuff. I don't even have cable. Just a bunch of DVD's. Leaves me more money for guns & ammo.

  11. I’d go with the kayak but the right one. I have a wilderness kayak for about 6 years now. It’s very stable and they call it a hybrid cause of its stability. I could easily carry 3 dozen floaters and I use it as a layout in the marsh. Just lat year I bought a Hellbender so I can carry twice as much including my dog.

  14. Gawd awful things.....why do I go? I saw a couple guys I know, chatted for a few minutes with them. Bought zero beef jerky, Amish belts, AR lowers or t-shirts. Oh I came close; NOT. You could count on one had the "deals" I saw, one of which was a guy that had a couple Sig P365 for 485 bones. Good deal..... LOTS of crazy prices on used and new guns that's typical at gun shows. Oh well it was a good excuse to go for a walk and test my ankle after a little mishap at work Thursday. Not 100% but it could be worse.

  16. So my 12 year old is taking the hunter Education class next Saturday. I register her a couple days ago and the class is filled up already. Crazy thing I remember when I took mine at 14 and don’t remember a homework packet. I’m not opposed to this at all for the record.. I was reading the questions and can honestly say I’m not %100 positive on some of the questions. So I started to think how many of us would ace this test not looking at the study guide. I’m actually excited to sit with her next week as I remember my dad sitting in mine.

  23. The other day I had a woman tell me she just noticed someone backed into her car, but didn't know when it happened. She assumed it was when she went to the store about 3 days prior, as it was home in her drive since then. She never noticed the front bumper was hanging off the car on the driver's side with the parking light falling out. She does notice every little detail of everything her husband does though. I guess that's selective awareness.

  24. I just hate how there's like 6 bills a year now that I have to call and threaten to cancel to get down to a reasonable price. I couldn't go back to regular radio, ever. Jason Ellis show and Liquid Metal sell it for me.

  25. We have used kayaks before, but that means 2 or more vessels for you and your hunting party. Also, we have to cover them with burlap to hide them at our set. We found this Grunman aluminum canoe for cheap and camoed it up ourselves. Great for 2ppl and we can take a third person too. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  26. A generalization that may not be accurate. Too many variables. My kayak is probably more stable than my flatter bottomed canoe and many many many times more stable than my rounder bottomed one. lol But I'm still more likely to get wet with the kayak, and if I were going out in the COLD water, I'd take my flatter canoe (and sit low, maybe on the floor)

  36. I’ve mentioned this before , I have a screen shot of my spot with the stands numbered , tell the Mrs. which one I’ll be in, text her when I’m back at Truck . If I fail to text she’ll call, no answer ,in a week or maybe two she’ll send help , depending if there’s any bugs in the house that need killing or a laundry basket to carry downstairs.

  41. I was catching in Babe Ruth and a few kids in a row threw their bats back at me after a hit. I told the ump the next time it happened I was following the kid up the line and stomping his ass. It did, and I did. Big pile up, parents, coaches, an absolute melee. Also glorious. My father was beaming.
