  1. My neighbor brought me this big ol' cherry log a few weeks ago so I got to sawing on it the other day and finished up this afternoon. My plan started with a simple drawing of a dragon that lives in my head and it worked out pretty sweet on the wood too!

  3. I really enjoy going for a ride. Today we hit an estate sale way out on Rt77 in Attica, it sucked donkey ballz. After that we headed south, then east then south then holy cow we're at Letchworth. Didn't see squat for big bucks but didn't really expect to..........(FSW reference) Just amazed every time I see it, awestruck does NOT cover it. If you are within a couple hours or even right down the road and haven't seen it for awhile, you should.

  5. This color coded map show wny is not that different from a lot of the must hunt big buck states! Of course many will spout off nope but numbers dont lie this being said many in the state do not enter deer in recordbooks so this is only a comparison of those that do. But wny is right in the mix. 10. First-Time Camper Program Announced for 2019 Have you ever wanted to try camping before but just not sure how to start? New York will once again provide First-Time Camper weekends this summer. Established in 2017 with eight participating parks, this program will include 11 campgrounds over nine weekends from June until after Labor Day with locations across the state. New campers will receive a family tent, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, camp chairs, lantern, and even firewood. A camping ambassador will meet families upon arrival and help them get set up with a camping 101 lesson. Throughout the weekend, there will be even more opportunities to learn from experts how to fish, hike, paddle, bird watch and more. To apply, sign up through the online lottery system between May 10 to May 12. Learn more about the 2019 program. Watch a video, and get inspired to go camp

  11. I've only shot one bird in my not-much-of-a-turkey-hunter career. His name was Jake. If I have a chance at another similar named bird, I'm going to blow his gobblin head off. And my grandson's name is Jake, so I've got that going for me. That's my plan, and I'm sticking to it.

  14. Wife and I did our first annual Dandelion pick today. Picked 12 big bushels and then ckeaned...washed....blanched...and are draining outside in the garage. Ended up with 26 softball sized batches. One more picking before they flower and we are good for the year. Of course we had to taste test them for dinner just now.

  15. Spray your clothes folks. Well planned on spraying mine and daughters clothes tomorrow. Sat for a few hours this morning and on way home felt and found a tick crawling on my ring finger. Never had one on me before. Yuk. Dang near crashed as it gave me the willies. Tractor supply and Walmart carries Sawyers so spray down and stay safe. Yup I’m a dufus for scouting without spraying yet.

  19. My area is in a 1 to 3 range. Makes sense, as a three year old buck here is usually just over 100 inches. But now and then we may get one bigger. I'm very fortunate to have the acres we have to hunt. And have hunted here since I was a kid. So it's home. Makes a big buck that much more special here.

  33. New York Hunters Interested in More Crossbow Opportunities DEC recently conducted an e-mail survey of 10,000 licensed hunters to gather more information about crossbow use and preferences regarding big game hunting with crossbows in New York. Over 3,800 people responded to the survey. When asked in which wildlife management unit (WMU) they hunt most often, respondents named 81 of the 89 WMUs in the state. Most survey respondents who don’t currently own a crossbow said that they would get one if crossbows could be used during the entire big game bow season. By a more than 3-to-1 margin, respondents are in favor of purchasing a bowhunting privilege rather than a muzzleloading privilege to hunt with a crossbow. Most respondents are also in favor of allowing 12 and 13-year-olds to hunt with crossbows and allowing crossbow use in archery-only WMUs. With respect to the latter question, respondents who hunt primarily in those WMUs support allowing crossbow use there by a 4-to-1 margin. The full report on the survey results is available on the DEC website. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/xbowsurveyresults.pdf

  34. My son decided he wanted to try to get a turkey with his crossbow. On May 9 last year we had a flock of jakes come into our decoys and he bagged the biggest jake with a perfect shot. You can see the hunt in the second part of the attached video from his website valoroutdoors.com. We were both happy with his accomplishment and the beautiful video. In short there is nothing wrong with shooting a jake.

  35. Wife texted me that a tom was gobbling around 1130 on our HOA land. I think it was the tom I roosted last night. Hopefully he hangs around two more days looking for love. If anything it is incentive to hang around a bit even if the morning starts out quiet. Maybe changing my plan up a bit for the opener. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  37. Onondaga County sucks. Mine is Sportsman, employment. I take it that I am upper management and am on call 24-7 that is good for whenever I feel like it. I hardly carry anyway as I am not usually in places I feel the need. Every cop I have talked to said they would not bother me at all for carrying. I also have a PA one. Full carry, 15 minutes and $20, NY 13 months........... Can carry in 32 states unrestricted but my own lol.

  48. Funny you posted this, I just made my every six month call to them yesterday. Every time the price goes up I call and say I will pay $5.99 a month and they set up that price for six months. I asked if we had to keep doing this and they pretty much said yes. I love it, can never go back to local radio
