  2. What if several hunters hid inside a giant wooden horse and presented it as a gift to the biggest buck in the area? Then, come nightfall... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  7. If you go out in the canoe, try a Senko type stick worm. Tie on a #3 worm hook and just hook the worm once through the middle (wacky rig). Toss it out along the edge of the weed line or close to any cover, and let it fall. Most times bass and pike will hit it on the fall, and hook themselves. If no bite on the fall, just raise your rod tip and reel in the slack, and pause.Do that two or three times then cast again. I have taken kids and others with little to no experience, and the Senko always got them fish! Fish pretty much hook themselves with little to nothing done by the fisherman. Colors don't really matter much, pick up a pack each of light and dark colored ones. If you PM me your address, I'll send you some hooks and a couple packs of the worms. If there are fish there, these will catch em!

  13. Good suggestion, and I think I'm doing exactly that on the way home. Here's a new twist - my wife wants us to get it. But I'm the accountant and CFO of the household and as such, do all of the fretting about things like our budget. Nonetheless, we'll be stopping by tonight if it's not pouring. At least a drive-by to see if it's still there.

  14. I wholeheartedly second Robert H Treman State Park. Really nice hiking and great scenery. Was there last summer. Like TF says, hardly anyone there compared to Watkins Glen. Also, Taughannock Falls State Park is close by and also nice hiking and scenery. Below are a couple of photos I took at Robert Treman SP.

  16. Jeep mods complete. Came with 2 1/2” suspension lift. Added 35” Nitto ridge grapplers (surprisingly quiet new) and upgraded rear door hinges and spare carrier. Also added steps for my vertically challenged friends/family. Drives smooth and tracks great. DONE!

  19. jr thunderstick - dont just reel it in - twitch and pause, then two quick twitches. and repeat to shore. Its a winner on toothy critters. Small spinner baits also work great. Usually pickerel will hit anything on the move.

  21. I have had several Remington gas autos ( 1100s and 1187s) over the years....As long as you keep the gas pistons and mag tube relatively clean, they are dependable and definitely much easier on the shoulder than those wretched Mossberg pump guns... The weight is an advantage , not only to further minimize felt recoil, but to maintain a smooth swing on the longer passing shots that are common in waterfowl shooting....

  25. Please forgive me if I have posted this story before, but it is one of my favorites... A scout for the Green Bay Packers came to Ole Olsen's house to interview him... Mrs Olsen answered the door and said " Ole is away right now, but he will be home soon..Have a cup of coffee... SO the scout sat at the kitchen table, and meanwhile Mrs. Olsen, a stout Scandinavian girl proceeded to clean the kitchen... She picked up the fridge, and dusted underneath it.. She picked up the gas/wood range and dusted underneath it.... The scout, looking for a way to make conversation, said..." You are very strong, Mrs. Olsen, have you considered playing with the Green BayPackers…?? Mrs. Olsen blushed a bright scarlet and said..... " Oh NOOO... I only play with OLE'S packer..."....

  34. Back a few years ago I had two of my nieces for a day and took them to a shooting range with a certified instructor. We/they had a blast shooting everything from pistols to skeet. It was a memorable day just for the novelty of it as they had never handled firearms before. I've since had them over to my place a few times for fun shooting and plinking, and I used to be an NRA instructor so I know how to do it safely. They're adults in their mid-to-late-twenties now. Just a thought.

  36. Not sure truth to this but years back I heard a city folk guy stopped at a deer check in station to check his spiked buck in. Hunter was so proud as his first deer ever. It was a goat. DEC supposedly made him go back and confess to the farmer.

  38. You sometimes do get that in Rec league baseball unfortunately. Ask around, and get your son on a travel team. there are a few levels of play on travel, and your son may need to try out. But the kids that play travel ball tend to be more in to the game, and more skilled. And usually better coaching too. At this level your son can still improve his skills and do well, even on a bad Rec team. (We've been there too) That will carry him over to the next year, where he may be on a much better team.
