  4. First card check at this spot...never saw this guy before. He's definitely got the stubby body proportions of a piebald. Would make a cool full bodied mount in another year or two. Tried to edit the pics to remove some of the glare.

  8. I have been trying to be outdoors as much as possible and not on the internet. I didn't get many days turkey hunting this past Spring, but those I did I was more listening, looking, and learning more then I was actually trying to kill a bird. Been out for a ton of hikes, practicing some buchcraft in my yard, a few fishing trips, and a car camping trip. Still have a lot planned for the Summer. More hikes to spots I haven't been too, and a few over-nighter camps in the sticks. There are videos for some trips and I didn't take pics for all my dirt time outings. But here's a few pics for anyone interested. Thacher Park and a few other places. No woods roads.

  17. So always see these cheap lures online and thought about trying them. So I took a chance and spent $40. Damn well impressed! Like the colors and the weights of them for casting along the canal. The hooks are certainly not the best but for $40 this was a great deal. Happy with it. Found them on Amazon just searched stickbaits. Site that had a lot was " light in the box" and "Fish USA". There were a lot of stickbait bunches for $25-$50. These will be great for canal casting on 6lb for walleye, pickerel and smallies. If just looking to fill your box or for gifts etc. Pretty good deal. When one rapala costs $7-9.

  23. I am not someone who backpacks into wild country for extended periods camping out with a tent and sleeping in a sleeping bag. My jaunts be they hunting, hiking or scouting day or night are planned for extended hours at most not days so I do not carry a lot of so called survival gear. I do have most of the items mentioned in this thread and it was fun learning how to use them but for the activities I have done mostly I stick with the basic items I previously mentioned along with something I forgot to mention, a high quality lightweight light source. The long burning compact and light weight LED lights available today are great, both flashlights and headlamps. What I do carry depends on what activity I am involved in and what I consider to be essential and try to keep the weight down. I have come to rely of various multiple pocket outdoor vests of different styles to carry these items, some are light weight material for warm weather others are heavier and made to keep me warm. All are very comfortable and make carrying many small field items including hand guns with some styles easy and secure. For me the two most important things I have actually used with frequency is a lighter to get a fire going and a good compass. The good old reliable Zippo windproof outdoor lighter is something I have been sold on for a long time especially learning in my younger days I could light a cigar going down the road on a motorcycle with no problem. As with any equipment they have to be properly maintained and as long as they are they are infallible. Spent a lot of time in the woods Coon hunting and made many little fires when taking a break with zero problem using a Zippo with just natural tinder. By the way on July 4th I have family over for a big cookout, I have one of those firepits and the kids do the marshmallow smores thing. When making the fire I decided for the heck of it to try Stormy's suggestion of using some flammable fluid. Got the Zippo lighter and the little Zippo field fuel on the go kit out which I have for just keeping the lighter maintained, gathered up some twigs and pine needles and put a few drips of fluid on the pile and touched it off, Easy Peasy ignition and fire was going and being used in a few minutes. Yes the reality is I could have started the fire without the fluid by just using the dry tinder, first time I have ever used fluid and it worked well, would be handy in less than ideal wet conditions in getting a fire started. Bottom line is flammable fluid can be carried safely and easily to start a campfire if one wants to do it. Al

  26. My brother boiled lobsters for a restaurant in Sodus Point one summer. He just whacked them on the head with a knife handle before he boiled them. He's sort of a peta guy, and they probably just died with a headache. Personally, I'd just throw them in and get the butter ready. To each his own.

  28. This is some things I keep in a pack, in my truck. When hunting in cold weather, or big woods, the amount of crap and the size of the pack goes up. Paracord, lifestraw, lighters & candles, winter hat, space blanket, books, snacks and first aid stuff, are a must have for me. The lighters are all full, and I swap the granola bars out every year. I hope the lifestraw works, but am not going to test it.

  30. This probably makes me sound like a misogynist though I'm equally put off by the same action from men (maybe I'm just a stoic party pooper), but I hate the over exuberant celebrations of every achievement, large and small, by athletes. While I appreciate the accomplishment and the emotion that goes along with winning, can't anyone just win graciously, shake a few hands and go home?

  38. There’s plenty to disagree with or not like about everyone- trying to overly fabricate an issue IS the issue in this ridiculous world. Agreeing to disagree used to be a bit more civil or maybe a bit more private. Everyone has a “platform” to preach today, even those who comment on an athlete commenting on a cause. BTW-those commenters did not even win the win cup or have an accomplishment. These women are not the first and only ones who use their notoriety to try to impact change(whether you like their change is irrelevant). They got the spotlight and people are listening Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  39. FYI - It's believed Kelley O'Hara was player that retrieved the flag off the ground. Have to agree with Culver, don't believe the women intentionally put the USA flag on the ground & walked on it as a protest! Definitely not agreeing with what they did, but in the moment the photo opportunity was just too overwhelming and they dropped the flag. Again, not justifying what they did, but if you were crowned the best in the world (at anything!) I'd have to think all common-sense, ethics &/or clear thinking are lost. Much like their drinking, dancing and booty shaking celebration in the locker room after their win in the finals. Not a lot of you were around, but JMO all respect & reverence for the US flag went out the window during the 1960s when all you saw on TV was flag burning protests. BTW - By USA's youth! Then they began putting the likeness of the US flag on everything from undies to shorts to shirts to bandannas to vehicle murals. Very few people born after the "baby boomer era" really know what the US flag represents.

  40. It'll be hard to catch those fish. Drunk fish tend to miss the lure when they try to bite.

  43. Better "BULLET" selection than the .308 ??? They use the same bullets....The only advantage the 30-06 has over the .308 is with bullets of 180 grains and heavier due to a larger case capacity... And the gas system of the M-1 is designed for medium rate burning powders and bullets in the 150 to 168 grain weight..Decent ballistics with bullets heavier than that require slower burning powders, which can bend op rods... So how much do you really know about the M1 ???
