  2. She flew out solo to visit my niece ( who’s my age ) and her husband. First time flying alone but did have direct flight. Went star gazing , food truck rally , toured Colorado state university, white water rafting in class 2 and 3 rapids , kayaking, total 80’s pizza , national park , saw elk , pica, antelope, mule deer , got pedicures with my niece, tried nieces husbands vanilla bourbon barrel aged homebrew , did some shopping Loved it out there. I’m elk naive but these 3 bulls look ok

  3. Figured I finally get around to taking a shot at a Dumbo! Still got a few things to tweak on this one before the finish, but I thought he was coming along pretty good so far! Ears and tusks attached separately since I don't have logs big enough to accommodate something like this from one piece. Sucker weighs a ton as it sits.

  4. I shot this buck on 10/2/15. At the time, I had no experience in taxidermy but was interested in learning so a friend of mine offered to walk me through the process at cost. In the end, I basically learned nothing as I more or less just sat back and watched as he rushed through mounting my deer. Needless to say, the final product showed the lack of time spent on it. The following year I started doing a little taxidermy on the side so I decided to remount this buck for a shop display as I didn't want anyone thinking that the original mount was my work. I did notice that the spread had shrunk some but thought it was the natural drying of the skull plate. The inside spread ended up shrinking a full two inches...not cool on a very narrow rack to begin with!!! Long story short...I couldn't stand looking it and I vowed to redo it again if I was able to find a nice, early season cape to use. Plus, my mounts have improved ALOT over the past three years. After season I was able to get my hands on a beautiful Sept 30th cape from Wisconsin on a taxidermy forum that I'm a member of. A few weeks ago I tore the mount apart and found that the skull plate had cracked from where my friend had drilled it and the bondo filler had come loose. I repaired the fracture and set out to bring my best bowkill back to life AGAIN... Before: The first remount that I did. Wish I'd kept pics of my friend's mount with the original cape... After: Believe it or not, it is VERY difficult to take good pics of a mount where everything is in proportion. The phone camera doesn't seem to pick up the colors in a true to life tone either...in person the colors in the mount looks better than expressed through these pics. Overall, I'm very happy with how it turned out and don't plan on ever mounting this guy again...lol.

  9. Great news, a full new arm, and hand was approved, which will include pattern recognition software, electronic rotational wrist, etc. Also, tomorrow is an appointment to finally try on the research study arm that has been fabricated for me.

  17. I’m pretty sure these trucks today are a lot like thermoses. They just know whether you want to keep coffee hot or beer cold. I had a mentor teacher who retired 10 years ago who was relatively afraid of computers and technology. She used to turn her lights down when the computer wasn’t working correctly to get more power to the computer...her name you ask.....LIZ!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. You're still young enough to pull it off . I started working as a machinist still in high school , 5 years out of high school i started my apprenticeship as a mold maker . I remember having the same thoughts around that same age . Deep down i just knew i wouldnt be truly happy doing something else . Fast forward to 5 ish years ago i took a job as die maker in the auto industry , i really miss being a mold maker . Are you maybe just not challenged enough at work or are you really done with the trade mentally ? Thats the question you need to answer.

  22. I forgot about this, I just watched this preview, pretty interesting, and just PROVES hoe you never know what tomorrow brings! True story, when I went to Texas over the winter for the arm events, during my photo, and video shoots, they had me cover the back of my prosthesis. This was because I have a “sticker” airbrushed on the back that says “Danger High Voltage”. Apparently, there are A LOT of electrocutions that resulted in amputations, so the area of my arm I had my shirt sleeve cover incase any amputees were there who experienced electrocution. Thanks for sharing the link, I wonder if the full documentary is on Netflix.... pic shows “sticker” on the back

  23. I truly believe many big bucks just die of natural causes ,never taken by a hunter and seldom seen. I've seen many along the railroad tracks that if they were shot , you would definitely hear about it.. largest ever was in west field bunch of hunters driving a grape vineyard, huge ( 180 plus in ) non typical bases like coke cans belly crawling in ditch next to tracks headed back through the drive. Hunters oblivious and flipped me off when I tried to yell what was happening out the window of locomotive...

  31. OK, so now I know why I've been hearing a lot of new vehicles starting up when the light turns green. I was thinking their engines had stalled and they had to restart them. This stuff is getting crazy. Don't quite understand what sense a feature like that makes, but whatever. We already have some vehicles driving themselves. I think I'll get a truck when that becomes a standard feature. I'll just install a shaggy carpet like Moog has in the bed and go sleep on it and wake up when the truck reaches my destination. Hopefully it can have some coffee and donuts waiting for me, too. LOL

  36. I’m gonna guess the new rangers are like the F150 ecos and won’t start getting better mpg until you get a few thousand miles on it. They are programmed to run a little rich for the first couple thousand for break in. I saw a significant mpg increase after 5000 miles. Awesome new ride though! Keep this thread updated. The ranger is in the lineup when I’m ready for a new ride.

  39. Got my survival book. Looks good so far. There’s a story in the intro about a hunter getting lost. When they found him he had a camp set up and was waiting for a rescue team. So letting someone know your route(where about) and like “DirtTime” said stay put. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. Invest $25 or so in a block-and-tackle rig. With a good anchor point you could put a moose in the back of a pick-up truck all by yourself. It took me a couple of years to figure that out. ;-) Free advice. BTW, I currently own your truck's great-grandfather. A 2000 Ranger. Congrats on the new wheels, Biz.

  44. I have a week long deer hunting trip in a remote part of the ADK's coming up the end of October. I am not hunting areas with marked trails or "woods roads", so I need to make sure I am prepared for this trip. Below is a pic of what will be in my pack. There will be a tarp as well, but I didn't take a pic of that because I want to try and buy a US Military Poncho to reduce weight if money allows. I also just realized I did not take pic of the flashlights. The little black plastic container in my first aid kit, it had the usual items and also two space blankets, some fishing line and split shots, I do have to re-wrap it with Gorilla tape as an added item for a splint or a to seal up a nasty cut. A compass..Duh! A few slabs of fatwood for tinder, this stuff burns hot and for a long time! Plain ole' cotton balls. A couple tea candles. Para cord. A couple carabiners. Some tent steaks ( oh look, they are still dirty, that's what happens when you actually use gear! ). My knives and ferro rods. A small folding saw. My mess kit. Water bottles. Some small rations of food. This may seem like a lot of useless gear, but it all fits in my day pack and weighs just about 15#'s. Not much weight really. I don't take chances in unfamiliar territory, and I don't just go 5 feet from the road and snap a pic, so I am making sure if something goes bad, I will be good for a day or two until people find me. Here's another tip, if you get seriously lost in the woods, don't move! Stay put and set up a camp, learn how to make a debris shelter! Bright tarps and ponchos will also help people find you easier. Another tip, as has been mentioned a couple times in this thread, go out and practice using your gear! Set things up in your yard and dial things in! If it doesn't work in your yard, it isn't going to work when you need it the most!

  45. Vaseline covered cotton balls are very effective fire starters, both in terms of quickly igniting and, more importantly, burning for several minutes to give your kindling a chance to catch on fire. My concern with liquid fuel is that while it may ignite quickly, it will not have a long burn time. A potential flash in the pan, so to speak.
