  2. There's a thread on here talking about the PA Elk drawing. I HAD 12 points but sadly have 13 now that I didn't draw this year but did read on this thread that a fellow from Williamsville did draw a tag. I immediately recognized his name but wondered if it really could be true so I sent him a text last night. I've known him for probably 25 years, not close but an acquaintance I met through NY Bowhunters Inc and we bump into one and other every couple years here and there. About ten minutes after my text he called me, wow he was beyond excited! He was on a plane heading to Florida when the Game Commission was calling him. He got off the plane and checked his phone and there were three missed calls from a PA area code. I guess he called them back and got the big news........ He has had many phone calls and text messages from people congratulating him and numerous guides offering their services. He has also spoke to the Game Commission about this hunt and everybody there and the guides too have tried (not that he needed it) to impress on him the magnitude of this September bugle archery tag. One outfitter said he has permission from a farmer to hunt a piece of ground inhabited by a 400"+ bull. I'm not sure if he said that guide or another guide said if we have an opportunity at a 370" bull the first day he would encourage my buddy to NOT shoot it. These bulls have never been hunted in September, this is the first year and a big deal. These guides/outfitters are really trying to get his business. He said he was going to head down in the next couple weeks to look over the ground and interview some guides. One very large well known call company has offered to send one of their pro staff along with a video crew to accompany him! I don't know if I could handle the pressure from that but he seems like he could handle it. When he called me the first thing he said was that I was on his list of people to call when he got back from Florida. We talked for about ten minutes and he said he keep me posted on the hunt. Very cool......

  12. The durability of the steel, insane retained value and Toyota's dependability hasn't gone away. Did I mention it's American made? Take a look at the shape of other brands that are 10+ years old and look at body condition. I've owned 2 Dodge Rams that were rotting out by the time I sent the last payment. If you're looking for a fancy, modern interior with touchscreens big enough to watch a movie on then sure, don't get a Toyota. But if you want a truck that'll last you a long time and still be worth money after that then grab a Toyota. My .02... Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  15. So, ironically enough, the Blink XT cam I have on a tree about 25’ from my door, catches a whole lot of cool videos. I get this doe who strolls through every evening...she sniffs the cam. Friday at 8pm had this little bear walk by, and just last night at 12:06am this buck walked through. Figured it was worth sharing, I have been enjoying this a lot. These are all screenshots of videos.

  19. I haven't put in for any days yet, but I too am retiring at the end of this year and I have 250 sick days to use. So i think I'll be able to hunt when I want to! I'll just watch the weather and make a phone call!

  20. I appreciate the info regarding CWD. I know some states that have been hit with it had a decline but eventually came back. I have no idea how many hunt behind fences nor do I really care. If the sky falls and it comes to that being the only option in NY, I will find some other hobby.

  22. It's not a good thing for sure but it's just something else that kills a few deer. You see if you listen to the DEC and others with agendas they will tell you every deer found positive is positive and that's not 100% true. They are not clinical unless it's found in the brain. If it's found in the nodes only it will not die. Just shows the lymph nodes are doing their job. Problem is they say they have to kill them to find out when in fact there is a live test that will show positives but of course that's not easy for wild deer and some states won't allow it. Texas has been using live tests for years with great results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. Thought I would update this thread even though it is old. That way if someone wanted to see how the limbs looked before they could. I didn't want the high gloss limbs since I was hunting with the recurve only this year. So I put the 400 grit paper to them and did a camo paint hydro dip. first limb had a bit too much texture becasue I think I put too much paint in the tub. The second one was much smoother. Going to hit them with some fine sand paper and then put on a clear matte finish.

  24. Just picked up our Dusty W Kennel GSP yesterday. We have a 1 year old GSP and when I brought Stella home it was like they were long long friends. Cooper is one of my upland guide dogs and Stella will be doing some smaller hunts by November

  25. In the twelve years I’ve lived in my home, I can count the number of times I’ve left my truck outside. New houses 3rd garage is plenty large enough for my truck. Might even have room for the Hydro Tractor aka the lawn mower. Lol!

  26. I'm partial to Chevy. But the gmc's are just as nice if not nicer with fancy interior accents. Crew is a must have and I'm not sure if I'll ever buy anything else. New vehicles are a joke no matter what brand you buy. Some are lemons. Some are gems, but you leasing is a great option to stay in warranty and dump when it's gone. Black / white.... I def like the look of my black better. Just shop around and take the best deal you find ! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  30. Smoked for a good 8-9 hours then foiled and left in for another 5 or so. Coolered for 2 hours then pulled. I don't usually crock pot. Apple juice and foil works like a dream. Also I don't have crockpots for 15 to 60 pounds of butts as I never do just one. I did put up a bunch of one pound packs to freeze and go off with the kid to college and a couple to some close friends.

  33. I did feel sorry for you last year....esp early nov when i hadnt slung an arrow yet! lol I am checking this site at 7:25 am Oct 1 to see if youve "Sent it" yet! But yeah I just enjoy hunting too , always like to get that early doe for meat then play around for a buck after. And i can understand - I would prob be pacing and fit to be tied if tagged out and the rut was going on - just like to hunt.

  34. Luckily, my vacation days are somewhat flexible. Plans fell through on some days, but looks like now I'm taking off last week of October & first week of November. Deer hunting isn't the priority, but I'll have to rest my dog a few days, so I'll probably get in a few sits bowhunting somewhere. I chuckle at these rut predictions, it's like clockwork, deer move first week of November, and a week before & a week after. We love to over-complicate things.

  35. i've never seen any noticeable difference at 30 yards and under with the lighted vs regular nocks. with my new site I can shoot out to 60 and it was interesting that i was hitting slightly to the right at 20 and about a foot off to the right at 60, so I'm going to tinker tonight to see if the effect of the heavier nock is noticeable at 60. After all, what good is an adjustable site if you're not accurate with your hunting setup, including the broadhead.

  38. similar boat my friend. 15 year old mathews is retiring and now i have a new yardage adjustable site, new drop away rest, new fmj arrows. Takes a lot of tweaking, but so far it seems like money well spent. I was grouping nicely at 60 last night... not that i'd ever shoot that, but it's a heck of confidence booster.
