  1. We are doing another Hunter Ed Course on Saturday. Woodlawn Sportsmen's Club. Think we have about 30 coming. May be able to fit a couple more. Giving the Bow course in two weeks. Same place. Adding safe hunters to our ranks is very rewarding to me. The smiles and high fives as they receive their certificates, is the icing on the cake.

  4. I mentioned this a while ago, I have a week long hunting trip planned for next month in the dacks. I have been looking at maps all year, and doing the web scouting thing. It has shown me some areas of interest, and I have been trying hard to learn tree identification by the leaves during the green season, because that's mainly what most Arial maps offer. Topos give you elevation features, and show valleys and so on. But, to get a true sense of what's on the ground, I will be going in cold/blind more or less. The web is great for some things, but there's no "Street View" in the woods. I cannot remember a hunt I have been looking forward to more then this trip, for a long time! It's going to be awesome if I take a deer or not. Hunting the morning and fishing the evening!

  7. @Jdubs Katahdin pics just for you! Your annual Katahdin pic. It was insane what Katahdin looked like with the sun shining on it, as the sun was starting to set...this is a good 50 miles as the crow flies i bet. For those who do not know, this summit in the far distance is the north end point of the Appalachian trail, and is the hike Jdubs conquered in Maine a couple months ago!

  8. This is Red's half sister, Sky.. She's 3 weeks old now, I bring her home on 10/13, she will be hunting right out of the gate, nothing to long, drawn out, but she will be out.. She's the 3rd largest of 12 and the biggest female.. Wife fell in love with her so it was inevitable she would be ours.. Will be doing preserve hunts with the two of them starting in January, she will be 5 months old, give her some serious experience for a few months. Put a few pics of Red in there, buddy said I can see it now "Red Sky in the mornings, pheasants take warning!!".. LOL

  10. I was out squirrel hunting this morning on some local public land... I was standing in a hickory grove, watching the trees when I saw a movement off to my left... There was a small ( perhaps 50-60 lb) bear walking right toward me....I watched him until he got about ten feet away and did not seem to see me or change course....I pivoted a few degrees toward him so that my shotgun muzzle was pointed toward him...Another step or two and I could have touched him with the muzzle... Boo-boo saw the movement and bolted, but only ran about 20 yards...The wind was right and he could not smell me...He walked across broadside in front of me and then continued on his way... That is the closest I have ever been to a live black bear in the woods..Pretty cool..I'm going to have to start carrying one of those silly phone/cameras you guys all have, just for such opportunities..

  11. I can't begin to thank you enough, for all the hard work and dedication you put into this wonderful program. I know you don't look for accolades. But if anyone deserves them, it's you and all the other volunteers who make Field To Fork work, to bring new hunters into our ranks. In these times, it is sportsmen like yourself Bob, that give of themselves to make a difference. It is far too rare to give back the way you do. If hunting the way we know it now, is to be passed on, to future generations, it will be because of sportsmen and hunters like Culvercreek, who stood up and made a difference!

  12. Tomorrow is our Hunter's Safety course. One of our volunteers has opened their camp for us to do it there. We'll have the class, enjoy some venison chili I am making and have a chance to actually walk the property to see deer sign, get them into different style stands and enjoy some fresh air. (maybe not so fresh after the chili). Since range day was almost entirely bench shooting, we will be doing a little off shooting sticks and off hand. I really want them to have some more practice and have a firm understanding of their limitations and the advantages of some sort of rest. I'll post up some pics on Monday

  15. I tie bucktail jigs, mostly for smallmouth bass fishing. That saves me lots of cash (don't need to buy bait or much tackle and family gets to eat "free fish" throughout the year. The deer tails are "free" (If I cant shoot enough, I pick some off road kills) and I pour my own heads. I only need to buy the hooks and I get a couple years out of a $ 5.00 hundred-pack. On Labor day, I used a few of those jigs to finish securing our winter's fish supply, with a limit of smallmouths from the Upper Niagara. I did loose one jig out there on a snag and almost lost another on a 40 inch musky. Fortunately, he was hooked on the outer lip and I got him into the boat to remove it with the needle-nose pliers.

  16. Old thread.....but dropped off my application the end of August to remove my restrictions in Erie county and got a letter today stating my permit now has no restrictions.....although I still need to head downtown and pay a few bucks to officially get the restrictions of hunting and target shooting removed. 30. From friend who works at troopers. It was a pursuit that started on the 400. He hit a car on transit continued down Bowen to broadway. They also recovered the drugs he threw out the window. He was also drunk. His parents live right around the corner from you. Found out Camaro was doing donuts and smoking tires when trooper first saw him. In talking to a guy who I went to HS with and lives directly near where car was dumped all the cops were standing outside his window while he was drinking a cup of coffee. Said police dog was useless. It sniffed car , did a few circles , walked to nearest house , peed on bush and walked back to the handler. Oh and friend at corner said all the cops were standing around talking and not one of them opened the lid on his giant empty garbage tote directly there. My family could hide in these things.

  34. First arrows since 8/11 , 15 arrows today which is probably 50% of the number I’ve shot previously this year . Thinking last two, years practiced all summer then by season my shoulders were so bad I couldn’t draw , so new bow and not shooting much ,is the plan . Stopped when that pain started again in rt. Rear delt area . Not happy with a tight group 2 1/2 inches right ,I blame the high wind ( which never effected me before ) following groups moved to center , but not as tight . Oh 22 ish yards .

  35. exactly, i spent hours in the roc one looking for good deals. I would something "drastically marked down" google it and it was still cheaper online than in gander. i think i bought $100 or so worth of stuff and honestly didn't save much if anything.

  40. Just had one stolen recently. Locked with Python cable and suitcase lock to keep them from removing sd card. They tried to cut the cable with what looked liked a hatchet but failed. Must have smashed the cam off the cable lock as there was only a small piece of plastic left. Bolt cutters and they could have had it in good shape. Got a feeling they didn't want me to get that sd card and see what they were up to. 5 other cams were unmolested. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The ATV tires sure take a beating running on the blacktop, I remember the difference when we left here last year, and from the time we got here this year, I can already see a difference...oh well, I bought it to use it

  45. there are over 1500 active players each year, with an average career of 3 years. 111 is horrible sample size, and is also only those who wanted to be tested, meaning they likely did suffer from the issue. I'm not saying concussions aren't a problem, far from it. But your statement and that study are not scientific.
