Been mowing one of my pastures for 4 hours and been waiting for the sunrise and as always it never disappoints. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk21 points

Got a new farm in MA this year, well over 450 acres, but farmer hates bears. Said I could hunt anything I wanted there, just had to hunt bears. So, started scouting in July, set up stands and ground blinds. Working with my Son and a youth hunter I've been mentoring for the past 5 years we all got into it. Started seeing bears hitting the corn the end of August, stands were set up perfectly. Opening day of the first season (3 weeks long) was Sept. 3rd, we had seen zero sign of any other people hunting.. My son and I go out, a guy walks into my son on stand 30 minutes before end of hunting time, say's "ooops" and walks off.. My son texts me, "My hunt is now over". I check my cameras, 4 other guys walking around during the day with rifles. I'm thinking "really?"... Whatever.. not my land, hunt how you want.. We hunt that week, no bears, just seeing more signs of other hunters.. Second week, my son can't go, youth hunter is big into hockey (An awesome player, 16.5 years old playing in a U20 league with 19 and 20 year old's), he can't go so I bring a buddy that owns the parents of my GSP Red and Sky. I can't go by myself because of an inflamed bicep tendon I can't drag anything. we hunt 2nd week, I pass on a small bear at like 2 yards, he see's another hunter and 2 couples, 1 driving around the cornfield he was hunting in a truck, the other couple just walking around.. I'm thinking "Good lord, it has to get better".. I hunt this week, last week of the first season, weather is PERFECT... Temps are cool... winds are perfect for our stands.. don't see any first night.. Last night, my last night I can hunt, my son was supposed to go, had to work, youth hunter and I go.. 6:45 I shoot this brute at 20 yards, 30 minutes later, my youth hunter, first time he's hunted now, shoots a small sow.. No one was out all week, they gave up, we persisted.. and scored big!!! Sorry for the long story but it was worth telling I think.. I'll have him weighed soon and post his weight.. check the skull on this guy!!!! This is the first year I ever hunted bears other than one hunt back in 1990, in Canada with the bow.. Going to be damn near impossible to beat this one but I will keep trying.. I am hooked..21 points

It's been an extremely busy and stressful year at work. I saw the phrase, "Inhale the Good Shit, Exhale the Bullshit" on a shirt while in New Orleans this summer. (OK, it also had a pic of a guy smoking a big fat joint on it too! ) Afterwards, I made this and used it as my computer background, as a reminder that it was just temporary and that hunting season was coming up! I'm ready to switch gears, get back into the stand, get some fresh air, and EXHALE THE BULLSHIT...12 points

Well today is it i feel like it was yesterday that I concluded LAST years Maine thread, even though i added to it these past few weeks getting antsy to go. Today we went out on the quad as usual, it has really become our favorite thing to do. Anyways, we trailered it about 20 minutes to a different section that we have ALWAYS wanted to explore. Something about it just looked so remote, and moosey. So we parked next to Brassua Lake, and rode the hard road the half mile to where the ITS trail crosses the maine road. We took the trail in hopes of reaching Jackman, a logging town 19 miles south of Quebec. Well we only made it 3 miles to a VERY flooded section of trail. It was a shame, as the area was beautiful, and just felt as if you were in Alaska. Well we turned around, headed back out those 3 miles, and crossed the hard road where we originally entered trail. This section was very scenic too, but it has some obstacles that we somewhat challenged ourselves to, since we are still noobs in ATVing. During the flooded sections where I could walk the sides off, I used a tree branch to check depth, and how soft the section was. Anyways, we said screw it, and conquered each section on this side of the road. It was a slow 10-15 miles in, but I travel slow to not damage tires. After the ride we went back to the house, cleaned up and went to dinner at a place that truly makes you feel like a local at home. They treat you so well that you leave a bit bummed out to be honest. You just imagine at that point what it is like to live up here. Just genuine good people, who I truly appreciate. At dinner we had that “Browned Butted, Pork Belly, & Lobster Pizza”...oh my god was it DELICIOUS. We expected it to be good, since all of their other foods are so flavorful, and delicious, but being pizza, we did not expect it to really be anything but “good”....we were blown away at how different it was, exploding with flavor, and made fresh to order. What a wonderful place. After dinner, we came back, made a campfire, and are listening to the loons on the lake crying. What a trip, and I appreciate you all letting me share the adventures we had. Always a depressing time to leave...truly do not like NY, and I am 100% a different person up here in my comfort zone.6 points

Looks like Mr. Wide lost a lot of antler. Still a shooter! There are other bucks to consider too. The two 4s I have hanging around with some playful fighting. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk5 points

I am 1000000% against baiting and would HATE to see it made legal here. Just what I need is to have to outbait my neighbors with rotting piles of vegetation on my land.5 points

Deer will smell you if you use permethrin or not. That's a fact. Ticks will surely chow down on you if you don't. Be smart and protect yourself. Use permethrin. It works really well, but also keep in mind, nothing is 100% but it is very effective. So check yourself and shower after every outing. Lyme, or any other tick borne illness is no joke. And every precaution must be utilized to keep yourself safe.5 points

Daytime pic was from end of July. The night pics are August 30th. Bucks on the property, at least the big ones are rarely on cam in season during the day.4 points

Its been a long time since i felt this good about my equipment. Thumb release i bought last year has helped alot along with the single pin sight i put on it. And alot of the info given out on this thread.4 points

I supported the site for two years. Also ordered merchandise from him. Although I did not have to wait very long I received a bunch of extra hats, T-shirts and pull overs with my order. It will be worth the wait.....unless you pissed him off! lol4 points

I have a mesh leafy jacket and pants and you can put them over anything you want. ASAT pattern. I am lazy and rarely use them but if I am hunting the ground, they are a nice option. Didn't cost much either. Otherwise, my concern with clothes is comfort and functionality not camo pattern.4 points

i have started season with a field of still green soybeans but as soon as they turn the deer seem to leave them. But when they were green even had deer bedding right there in them. I usually root for corn when they plant every year. But the beans are always a good spot to get pics of deer in the area before season to see whats around3 points

My experience is that whether cut or not, beans yellow before Oct. 1 and then are not a preferred food source unless left up until late season. I never rely on beans planted by the adjoining farmer and the shift usually happens only a week or less before season opens. I would focus on corn and acorns if you have them dropping.3 points

So far, we've done a food tour in Torino (Turin), chocolate tour in Torino, and a wine tour in Barbaresco and Barolo (outside town of Alba) Food tour was cool. The flea market/farmers market/meat market/modern food court is huge and awesome. Giant red peppers for 1 Euro ($1.11) per kilo. Fresh porcini mushrooms. on and on. The food regular people here eat is so fresh. In fact, veal tartar is a favorite dish in Torino. Chocolate tour was very good. There are all these different chocolate shops, some like a restaurant, that feature their own creation. I should have taken better notes but was too busy eating. My wife finally said towards the end "No more chocolate!" Luckily, the last stop was gelato. Wine tour was good. A sommelier/wine tour guide dude drove us around and educated us on the nuances of the local wine. Area was quite scenic, but desolate aside from vineyards.3 points

A short but scenic moosey type area we took a ride through today. Cold day, but fun, and really gives you an idea of how fast winter must come here. A short few hundred feet up a 55mph hard road, and we were on the trails that head back to where we spent our prior week. 20-25 mins by car at 50ish mph. Trails were VERY wet, bog like, and full of alpine type pines that I absolutely love. Makes you feel as of you are soooo far from home! I cannot describe the feeling...anyways, we got out feet wet literally in the trail world today! Nothing crazy, but in water up over the floor boards, and we were about 8 miles back in the middle of no where of the hard road that travels through the middle of no where. Awesome feeling. Took a lot of pics in which I feel were amazing, and happy to share them. notice all the fall colors appearing fast, and for those following my Instagram I have a few neat videos I am adding, as well as a few sunset time lapses.2 points
