  1. Took a break from the woods, to meet up with UpStateRedNeck for coffee and a snack yesterday. In East Berne. We talked hunting and outdoors stuff for quite awhile. A very knowledgeable, and good guy! I look forward to our next meet up Paul!

  3. No deer this evening. Finished my daughters mount...a little different than my primitive mounts but I know she will be happy with it on her bedroom wall. I plan to tan the hide and make a couple bags...I’ll incorporate the hoofs and toe bones in the bag.

  6. Hey guys this is my first attempt at self filming an entire hunt ending in a harvest. I'm starting up a hunting channel where I hunt solely in upstate New York. Almost all of my hunting is on heavily pressured public land. I stay mobile and use a lone wolf climbing stand or hang on and sticks. Let me know what you guys think about the video. Lots more to come and they will get better as I go. Thanks!

  15. Rensselaer county's ECO Canzeri met with some local youth hunters during the NYS promoted Columbus Day weekend youth hunt. The youth hunt was organized through Capital District Sportsmen group (on facebook) and the Upper Hudson River Valley QDMA branch. Local QDM co-op landowners opened up their property to the youth hunters and their mentors. Several local landowners volunteered their property for future youth hunts. Some youth hunters couldn't make it do to sports and other conflicting activities that weekend. We plan on making this an annual event. You may have seen a Finger lakes youth hunt on the internet with many more involved. It's important to realize we have a historic antlerless deer take in this WMU of 3.2 antlerless deer per square mile per DEC, being located in the foothills of the Adirondacks. . This is less than 1/4 taken from some WMU's in central to WNY. Makes for a tall order asking already hunted property to allow access and providing opportunity. Fortunately, all had opportunity and a great weekend. Some just couldn't quite seal the deal.

  17. Last night I spent some time at the bench to get our hunting ammo done. 270, Nosler BT 140g and some 140g Silvertips. We are good to go. This recipe shot very well on the range tests. This year, for the very first time, a buck will fall from a bullet I made up. Been waiting for this for quite awhile! All the time, and effort, put into this reloading stuff has been worth it. I really enjoy the tedious aspect, and being precise.

  19. I find it funny when people call and say I see the neighbors got one of your bucks.. they aren't mine and what we do here has spread to the neighbors as they will pass smaller waiting for larger..we dont have a formal.agreement on size to shoot, but I share my photos with them so they know what is around as well. Imo the " it's my buck" mentality is what has killed hunting. The jealousy is amazing. I love to remind people they are nys bucks.

  22. Peppers, broccoli, zucchini and polish sausage . Veggies are tossed in EVOO,sprinkled with smoked paprika, garlic powder, minced onion, oregano and parsley. Baked in the oven at 400 for 35 minutes. Once the grease bakes out everything mixes together it comes out really good. Forgot to get an after pic.

  23. Out with my brother tonight hunting from the ground. I’m literally in a ground blind, as below the ground surface...behind an old root structure traversing the side of a steep hill. ...complete with a root cellar to keep my food and beverage cold and a fire place!

  28. I don't usually make any effort to mess with ones I won't shoot as I don't want to risk giving myself away for the one I don't see. But if there is a buck I want to shoot walking out of my life, I will give it a shot. I have grunted more than one in and the snort wheeze got one that wouldn't commit to return to return for a shot. No harm if it doesn't work.

  32. You can't beat that feeling. Last year when I got my 10Pt, buck fever was kicking in so bad it took me 3 tries to finally pull my bow back and I literally pulled that string back hundreds of times over the summer leading to bow season with no problems at all. I got lucky, I dont know how he didn't see me shaking trying to draw that bow back...LOL

  34. To hell with that idea!! I'm perfectly happy shooting spikes, but don't take away gun season. What could be a more perfect scenario for Cuomo and his cronies? Now hunters don't need guns since the state is bow only, so might as well take away ALL weapons from everyone!!

  35. Little early for it to be likely effective, but the grunt tube is the one item I have hanging on my neck at all times in the stand. Hold until you know that they are heading away from you and let her rip.

  36. Went out with Nash for a couple hours yesterday. The young flusher put up four birds. I only had a shot on one due to the trees holding leafs. Missed on that opportunity. Saturday my daughter Libbie will get to see the rewards of her summers hard work as she walks behind the pup she trained during the youth hunt weekend. Watching Bailey’s healing progress but looking like she may not flush a bird this season... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  38. We ended up doing 134 quarts of tomatoes because our friends wanted 24 quarts. So they helped us with the remaining 18 boxes of tomatoes. Also have an additional 75 gallons of Zinfandel in the barrel for the next 2 years. Just bottled up the 2017 vintage which is drinking quite well! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  40. I mentioned this a while ago, I have a week long hunting trip planned for next month in the dacks. I have been looking at maps all year, and doing the web scouting thing. It has shown me some areas of interest, and I have been trying hard to learn tree identification by the leaves during the green season, because that's mainly what most Arial maps offer. Topos give you elevation features, and show valleys and so on. But, to get a true sense of what's on the ground, I will be going in cold/blind more or less. The web is great for some things, but there's no "Street View" in the woods. I cannot remember a hunt I have been looking forward to more then this trip, for a long time! It's going to be awesome if I take a deer or not. Hunting the morning and fishing the evening!

  44. This morning I figured I would Stay out of the woods to keep the pressure down at my place, so I spent A bit sighting in my 6.5 Grendel. It did pretty damn good and after dialing it in a bit, I put Some real nice 2 and 3 shot groups in there. I. The pic, the blue circles are benched 2 shot groups and the red and purple are rested off of a deck railing. The last shot that the blue arrow is pointing to was after the final scope adjustment on the bench. These are 100 yard groups with 123gr Hornady SST loads. Should be plenty good for deer season.
