  1. Found my buck about 150 yards from where I shot him last night and about 100 yards into the timber from where I saw him go in. I was right I caught him far back. I hate to do that to a deer but I’m glad we retrieved him. I also lost a good chunk of one of the rear quarters to coyotes. I knew that was a risk but I was hoping we could beat them to it. I have no history with this deer but it’s definitely got some character and is pretty unique. Now I get a couple days to get my shit together for gun! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. My son scored on this big buck yesterday afternoon. 22" spread. He's been getting trailcam pics of him, but laid eyes on him for the first time yesterday.

  3. Dragging a friend's buck out on Nov 2, I unfortunately hurt my back right at the start of rutcation (L4-L5 and L5-S1); presently dealing with a battery of tests and alot of challenges I'll have to deal with over the next few weeks. Stupid amount of pain, too. Surgery likely looming. I was dumb enough to push it probably too far; managed to get out with the help of a friend 9 days out of the originally planned 12 off. The other three I couldn't get out of bed due to pain/soreness. The sets were close to the truck and as expected, just outside the bulk of the action. A few close encounters with target bucks but physically it just didn't work out well, including one miss due to unfamiliarity with a borrowed xbow. Sometimes I could carry the bow and sometimes my friend had to walk me out. My wife is proud. Really, she is. I promise. She's still yelling at me, and I can hear her. I'm at work now 35 miles away. The evening of our snowstorm, I hunted the PM and on the walk out of the woods, picked up on where a target buck was bedded in some swale on a hedge row based on tracks and being able to glass him in the dark against a farm flood light. The next PM I drug myself with a Lone Wolf to the spot I thought I could get him and sat it out a whopping 6 inches off the ground. No usable trees to get higher and I couldn't carry a blind or sit in a folding chair comfortably. I couldn't climb either, let's just be real about it. At 3:30, three does come across an open field with the last being this one. I had to take the opportunity and did. 30 minutes later the target buck stepped out of the bedding and skirted me at 80 yards not knowing I was there; he picked up the trail of the does that came in with this one and followed the way they ran after the shot. He was shot the next morning by the neighbor. I was too sore to make the morning hunt and I got images of him on three cells cams that AM. That left me high and dry with no strong confidence moves to make on the last day of rutcation. Ah well. Still had as much fun as I could.

  5. The woods were on fire tonight! I sat on the ground overlooking a standing bean field and at first the wind was swirling back into a creek bottom where several does kept blowing but eventually it straightened out and the deer started to feed out. Had a shooter 9 point come out at about 100 yards and started to come into a grunt call but the neighbors dog happened to run out at the same time and cleared the field. About 45 minutes later there was probably 10-15 deer in the field when six does came out right in front of me and I could see another body lingering in the woods. A few minutes later I saw it emerge and caught a large main beam that told me shooter so I got ready for him to come into my shooting lane. He hung up for a few minutes where I couldn’t see him even though he was only 10-15 yards away but eventually he started to push the does around. I tried to stop him with a grunt but he wouldn’t stop and I ended up shooting him at a brisk walk about 40 yards away. It looked a touch back and the arrow and his reaction looks like liver, maybe clipped the back of lungs. I saw where he went in and am going to go in at first light to look for him. I’m pretty sure it’s a lethal shot and he’s probably dead already but I don’t want to risk pushing him. I am hoping he bedded down and died right inside the timber. Hunting on the ground is so addicting! That adrenaline rush having them in close right in your face is like nothing else. I was still shaking when I got back to my truck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Including Sunday’s hunt I had 50 hours in a tree stand which compared to some isn’t much but with 2 young kids at home and a wife that works every other Saturday it was a lot for me. A buck came by at 4pm from the south working his way north up a logging road. I immediately knew he was a 4 pointer that I had on camera all year long. There was no doubt in my mind that at 4pm on my last day to bow hunt for the year that I was going to do my best to get this deer. He was walking at a good pace without stopping so I had to be careful standing up and moving into a shooting position. I was able to be ready for him as he passed 3 yards away from the stand. I didn’t like the idea of shooting directly down so I waited until he got out in front of me. At about 12 yards he got behind a small tree head facing away from me which is when I drew the bow back and made sure I had my anchor point and was looking through the peep site. He was now quartering slightly away As he continued to walk away from me. When he was at a tree that I knew was 19 yards I gave him a soft "meeep" to stop him and let the arrow fly! Impact spot looked great but it was not a pass through and it even looked like an absolutely impossible amount of arrow sticking out of him as he bounded away. All sorts of thoughts started to run through my head. Did I actually hit him in the shoulder? Is my bow not powerful enough? I’m drawing 62 pounds or at least I thought? All that passed through my head in the matter of seconds almost the same amount of time it took him to start to stumble. That first stumble he did was all the reassurance I needed to know that I did in fact make a good shot. I continued to watch him run away for a few more seconds when his front legs gave out and he nose dived into the ground flipping over himself. He tried to get up again but could only manage to spin around on the ground in a small loop kicking with his back legs as hard as he could. Within seconds all movement stopped and there he lay motionless 100 yards away from the shot. I had finally done it after 4 years of bow hunting, countless hours practicing in the yard, countless hours spent in the woods it was done I had finally taken my first deer with a bow. This is a hunt much like my first gun deer that I will never forget. The 5 minutes that transpired from first seeing him walking down the path to expiring 100 yards away is seared into my memory. I couldn't be happier about it. It’s my first archery kill and for it to happen on my last day, in the last hour is just amazing! Thanks for letting me share! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. Finally! I waited an hour for the deer to expire and to see if a buck would be following before I tracked it. Needed to crawl on hands and knees for 30 yards to pull it out of very thick cover...it ran in the right direction though...trapping/butcher shed within sight. Going to hunt with my brother for the last bit of daylight...never know...

  13. Headed in to 7F lease and the dreaded swamp stand for the morn. Then in the afternoon 6S big buck stand. One year ago today got my best buck ever , hoping for some mojo from that. Same wind direction today too. Will be out in the morn for a couple hours close then spending all of the afternoon in 6S. Good luck folks. Let's go out big for bow!

  14. Any one that can predict a whitetail's behavior regarding being spotted in a stand, please inform me. After almost 60yrs of chasing deer, all I know is to expect the unexpected. Each individual deer will react somewhat differently to being spooked. From simply walking thru or away to blowing and skirting around the stand to bounding off with tails up! Clearly they'll react differently to simply seeing a motionless & usual blob (you) 15' up in a tree as opposed to seeing your movements to seeing something not normally encountered (shiny cup). Just when you think they're way too smart to return to that area after being spooked, here they come again!

  16. Had a great hunt this morning against a snowy backdrop. It didn't last too long as I had a doe come through solo......she gave me about a 16-17 yard shot and I made it count. She headed back the way she came after the shot and after about 60 yards I saw the tell tale flicker of her flag. I didn't actually see her drop but I was confident enough to only give her 30 minutes before I climbed down and took up the trail. She was where I thought......... The drag was MUCH nicer than the buck last Saturday evening; 30 yards on level ground to a seasonal driveway.

  21. Got up to go out, but I just can't pull it off this morning... Screw it!! My son shot a dandy yesterday afternoon that's hanging in the garage that we need to skin and cut up today anyways. Think I'll take him out to breakfast and then get started on his buck. I need a refresher on what the MOFO's look like before Saturday anyways.

  22. The reason for this set up being there, is a deer of a lifetime is a possibility in this spot. This is where they spend a lot of time. The area is now split. If he goes from one end to the other, he has to cross this cut. There is a cliff at the other end of this cut! Somewhere between that cliff and me, any deer going through, will have to cross that cut. Been thinking of doing this for years! Made it happen. So now I just need to make the shot. "If" the deer follow the plan....we'll see. That's hunting!

  23. At some point yes. Saturday there is an athletic department holiday fundraiser. So he will be there. I think that his little friend from the cheer squad being there too, is a contributing factor....lol Possibly Sunday he will get out with me? He knows anytime he wants, he can go. And it will be all about him!! Him getting a deer is much more important to me. But I will never pressure him to go. And I'll love him either way. I want to thank each and every one of you guys for the reply! You will never know how much you have put my twisted mind at ease! It really was to the point where I was just going to go to a different spot! And not hunt this great set up, I've worked hard to put in. I have total confidence in my rifle. In the right hands, no doubt it could drop a deer way past where I'm fretting over! I think it's just a confidence issue with me not wanting to make a bad shot, doing something I've never done? It kinda is hard to teach an old dog new tricks I guess? I do have a triggerstick trip-pod for a solid rest. And now, thanks to you guys, I'm going there and getting it done, if the deer cooperate! This place is pretty special in the way we all help each other. You guys have certainly helped me here. Thanks.

  25. 11/10/19 #1 A hunter and his Dad waited a couple hours after the shot to start tracking this buck, and they jumped it within a couple hundred yards. They did everything right....from flagging the blood as they tracked, to backing out immediately after jumping it. Luna took us past their ribbons and just under half a mile to the dead buck. This was a leg hit deer and it looked like he had been chased around an alfalfa field late in the track, there was blood everywhere. There were no other injuries, he bled to death. #2 A hunter shot a buck yesterday morning, found a few brown hairs and a very small piece of flesh. He was unable to find any blood after a good look, so assumed he grazed it. This morning on his way out of the woods he came across blood and followed it for as far as he could, then called me. Luna and I headed over after the first track, and about 15 minutes in, she took me across a paved road. There were no tracks in the snow where she took me, so I took her back across the road. After some exploring over there, she again took me across the road, this time to somebody’s yard about 25 yards away from where we went the first time. The snow was melted in the yard, but not the woods. I told the hunter we need to get permission to enter, but a neighbor told us the bank owned it. Being unable to get permission, I ended the track. I did ask the hunter to take a peak in the woods for sign to verify Luna was right, and he located blood. I got a text later saying he was able to follow it for 300 yards and it never bedded down. #3 I was called by this hunter as I was on my first track, with the second track lined up. I had family arriving from out of state this afternoon, so I declined the track. When the second track ended up being so short, I called the hunter back and said I could take it after all. Naturally, 3 guys had been out grid searching for quite a while by then. I stopped by the house on the way to this track and swapped dogs. The hunter said this was a big buck and the picture he showed backed that up.....it was huge. The buck dropped at the shot, flailed around, got up and ran off. Uh oh.....don’t like the sounds of that. There was minimal blood in a small area about 50 yards from the hit site, then nothing. Kunox and I worked the area extensively and came up empty. I believe this is a high back hit and they may see him again.

  26. 11/8/19 I was called tonight by a hunter that shot an 11 pointer he’d been waiting for. He and three buddies looked for over an hour, but all they could find was a little brown hair. There was no blood, and they couldn’t find his tracks from after the shot. Kunox started at the hair and went into tall thick nasty swamp grass and downed trees, but could only walk about 10 yards in before being unable to get through it. I looked around a short distance and didn’t see any sign so I took him back to the hair. He did the same thing, then turned around and went the opposite way into a thicket. I let him look around in there awhile, and at one point he went hot. Investigation showed tracks too small for our buck. I took him back to the hair and one of the guys said he thought he had smelled the buck in the area Kunox had first gone to. I put Kunox down and he went back to the swamp grass, so this time I carried him around to see if he could smell anything. Sure enough, back goes his head and the sniffer went into overdrive. I watched him as I walked and he took me right to the dead buck. He was only 50 yards away, but you couldn’t see him until you were literally right on top of him. Great bunch of guys....I’d track for them anytime.

  27. I think i have an addiction to trail cam pics! I love it when you get lucky enough to harvest a buck but I really love it when I can go back and look at pics of the deer from earlier in the season and even previous years! Here is a pic of my buck shot on Monday from about 1 week ago and 2 weeks ago. It's a shame he busted off all his points 1

  35. Well. Yesterday i shot a doe shot looked good quartering away. Even saw it look like it wobbled when it got out to 100yrds. Gave it a good hr started tracking. The arrow stayed in her and about 50yrds into track it started pumping blood full of bubbles and pink colored, we found arrow where i last saw it and got about 18 inches went in.(could see it when it ran away the arrow went in deep). Was covered in blood no guts all lighter colored and so i kept going after 150-200 yrds of tracking with consistant blood it stopped with only 4 drops over last 75 yards. So me and friend decided to circle to see if we could catch it laying dead or cross more blood. Well 5mins into that i jumped it. Buddy saw her and confirmed it was her he saw blood on its side. Went back this morning 24hrs after hit looked all over. I about gave up figured ide swing around property in truck to see if i could see her in the fields. Crows gave her up had to be 20 in the trees around her. Found her in one of the meadows 200yrds from where we jumped her. She stunk yotes and crows got to her last night. Looked like i hit a little higher then i thought and caught one lung and did get more guts and liver then i first thought. Guess she was quarterd more then i thought. Shes hanging hoping meats still good i scrubbed her down and got rid of any meat the guts spilled on. Sorry no hero pics wanted to get her home and cleaned up just one of her hanging.

  36. Service was terrible. It was supposed to be linked to the ATT network, which I have. At my stand site my cell service was 4 bars, but the camera had no signal. Customer service was unreachable on the phone, only web chat, which was useless. I expected the terrible camera quality, comes with the territory in this price point but the customer service combined with the camera literally not working was a no go for me. Shutter speed was slow, and app was clunky and poorly put together. At this stage in life I have come to the conclusion that it is worth it to pay more for quality when it comes to things like this.

  42. I'm running several Spypoint Link Micro's. Reception is key so buy whichever version works best in your area. So far I like the link Micro's, the image quality gets compressed via the app but it's plenty good enough to identify the quality of deer. It's the biggest advancement in hunting in a long time in my opinion. I attribute my buck kill this year to knowing exactly where I needed to be even while I was at work still. Battery life is good so far, I'm getting over a month on a set. The free app works well, you get 100 free pics a month after the first month which is unlimited. Buying a bigger plan is quick and easy. The camera price is the best pricepoint of any cellular camera. I'll attach a few pics that I've gotten below. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
