I got my hunting license at the end of October, went out on 5 hunts before this one and today with the help of friends I got a button buck which I thought was a doe so I took it. Even though I hate the idea of taking such a young buck I can’t take it back so here he is. My fist deer ever. It was a hell of a hike and a grueling hike back. Until next season.

Hung 4 strands of new LED icicle lights Go to climb down and ladder slides a bit in the grapple that’s been falling After wearing harnesses and lifelines in stands all year I’m like f this. My head will split like a watermelon on the driveway. Cmon neighbor let your dog out so I discretely ask you to hold ladder. Hour and 15 minutes goes by and finally a salt truck is coming I flag them down and ask to hold the ladder. Guy says last year he got stuck on eave of house and called his buddy to come over to let him in through window. Feeling a bit dumb but I’m still alive. There’s your laugh for the day at my expense. Come on now, it's your first deer what's wrong with a button buck?? Any deer you kill should be considered a trophy. Don't get wrapped up with what you see on the TV hunting shows or any hunter telling you that hunting should be all about antlers.

We had our annual youth antlerless hunt during the Oct. Youth season 3 of the kids arrived prior to the first day and checked out the blind locations I had set up for them. All 3 of the youth hunters scored the first day on adult doe. Gavin is 13 and has been hunting with me in pa since age 7 Addison is 10 and has been hunting since age 6 in pa. My buddy's daughter abby is 8 and this is her 2nd year hunting my farm. My buddy's son colton is 12 and has been hunting my farm for 4 years. This years antlerless hunt. I got out Thanksgiving Morning with my stepson for our 3rd, and possibly final sit for the year together. The 35 mph winds and snow squalls wasn't stopping him from wanting to fill a tag. We chose a ground blind that i felt would be tucked in out of the wind more than most places and not far from a bedding area.. First whitetail to show was a fawn, it stepped out from cover and fed out in front of us, a few moments after entering, another bigger bodied deer appeared right behind it feeding away. We watched them for awhile waiting on more. After 15-20 minutes, nothing else showed up. And these 2 had made their minds up that they were moving on, So we decided to attempt a shot at the bigger of the 2. He had a buck tag, a doe tag, and I had 2 doe tags that could be filled for the area. So we elected to get him his first deer by rifle regardless. Well what we thought was a doe, especially by how it was acting with and around the fawn. Ended up being his first buck ever, he was super pumped. I can't explain how happy I am for him, how happy he was for himself! We could literally see zero sign of antlers over the deer's head, Not that it matters it was his first and he is pumped to say the least! I couldnt be more happy for him. Bucks tagged legal and in the freezer! I brought my tripod I use for predator hunting to help him to my best ability. He split that bucks ticker in 3 pieces with a 140gr ELD at 120 yrds and it still ran a good 50 yards!! Kids a sniper in the making! That morning he learned what it was like to enter the tip of a sharp knife into a nice warm deer stomach! that irreplaceable sound and instant smell of a stomach deflating! LOL!! i hadn't laughed so hard in a long time, I tried to warn him to turn his knife around that you'd be better this way especially working around that stomach of his with the initial incision lol. He insisted it was how his dad showed him.. Lucky for him Im a good guy, and instead of only one set of blessed field dressing covered arms, there were 2 since he couldn't hold his own stomach together lol!! It'd be nice to get out and fill a doe tag or 2 before seasons end together. And a selfie after the shot!

My first deer was a spike , 3.5 inches long, i shot him when I was 17. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Your first deer is well your first deer. Congrats .....

I think odds continue to get better through muzzleloader. Pulling for cabin, rob and Otto and all the others that are still looking to score one. Keep at it. Only takes one opportunity!

Passed some small bucks in bow season but right now would take one for the freezer. I would prob pass them again in early season but end of season without even a doe in the freezer, all are fair game. One more weekend of gun and I have three days for muzzleloader so still in it but it's been tough. Esp since last season was my best ever.

Not as big as Underhill's bucks...but for my neck of the woods, this 10 pt. was near my stand this morning. And it's plenty of incentive for me. Still on terra firma. Smarter than me.

Haven't had this guy on cam since mid January. Glad to see he's still breathing...

With so much connected to the newer vehicles of today, I would only let a factory (dealer) mechanic do this type of work. Yes, it absolutely will cost more to have it done at a stealership. But in the long run it could save you much more money, if not done to the specifics and codes, of that particular vehicle? And it will not in any way void the factory warranty. Also, should ANY problem develop, they are the most qualified to fix it. As opposed to someone who just 'kinda knows' how to install a remote starter.

I've done a few in the past and the scrubbing and scraping after simmering sucks. The smell of it simmering sucks, and did I mention the nasal cavity? Yeah that sucks too. If an when I get another worthy of a euro, I am going to try the pressure washer method. For a finish I use the 40 peroxide from the beauty store (my wife has a license to buy from there) and I mix it with baking soda and it creates this weird dust you can just rinse off. I like the "white" look versus the natural or yellowed look. Plus it's easy to reapply down the road if some oils release and start to yellow the finish. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Tapatalk

Took a lot of work but I went from barely hitting the target to this grouping at 25 yards shooting instinctively. Also on a Steve B string.

Be careful about shooting too much when starting. Tendency is to just keep flinging. Need total control of every shot start to finish - develop a process and stick to it. As soon as muscles start to tire and you lose 100% control - STOP. Continuing will only allow bad habits to develop.

48", and the largest one that I have landed. I rarely target them, but get a few by "accident" now and then while bass fishing. They only had to be 44" to keep on the upper Niagara back then (now they need to be 54"). I have a couple other "by-accident" fish mounted, including a walleye and a northern pike, but I have never had a bass mounted. I got the idea for the musky in the billiard room from George Bolt, at his place on Heart Island up on the St Lawrence.

I dont mean to leave this group high and dry but I got a buck this morning at 8:12. Heard a buck grunting off in the distance but couldn't see him. So, I made a couple doe estrus bleats and within 30 seconds I could hear a deer coming. In came a medium sized 8Pt looking for the doe. I think it was the same one I passed at 11 yds during bow and maybe the same one I passed on yesterday at 70yds. He was out of passes this late in the season and offering a chip shot at about 35yds. Plus it was pretty cool that I called him in. Good luck to the rest out there working to bail from the group.

Almost every animal cruelty law has an exemption for hunting, trapping and fishing (including the new Federal law). Unfortunately this was conducted while in the act of hunting from a legal perspective. These are some sick demented a holes and I'd bet future serial killers so don't get me wrong on that point. Here is my concern and I may be accused of wearing a tin foil hat. With something this depraved I am certain that the hunting, fishing and trapping communities as a whole would rally squarely behind opposing this behavior. SO we actually are on the same side as the animal rights groups and push for a legal action. (I can't seem to find anyone that can tell me what law would have been actually broken though). SO this gets resolved and we fast forward. I see many making fun of the opossum stomping comment. How many know of how many trappers dispatch the animals they catch? I am CERTAIN that many on here would really be set back to see the common practices. I've seen guys on this forum and other hunting forums talking about going up to a wounded deer and slitting it's throat as opposed to shooting it again. Dozens and dozens of activities that many of us utilize in hunting, fishing and trapping would be viewed by non participants as cruel. That is why these laws have had the exemptions. As depraved as we all think these actions were, we had better be careful hollering side by side with the anti's for legal action. They have proven how adept and willing they are bringing outcry against us.

Power belts can be a bitch. I had issues with them seating and also the bullet retention was awful. I switched to barnes like many on here and never looked back.

Went for many years with just a Woolrich red checkered hat and coat. Then went to the black camo pattern on blaze orange. I have been very close to deer, on the ground, wearing this and not noticed by the deer. Even though it's not the law to wear blaze orange in NYS. It is highly recommended that you do so. Be seen. Be safe.

I boil with some dish soap then just soak for a few hours in oxiclean. All these methods work, the key is to stay away from strong chemicals and bleach because it weakens the bone.

Throw some dish soap in the boil to break the oil. Scrape some meat, reboil and repeat,. Look for small wire brushes for the inner nooks and crannies. I used Oxiclean from the grocery store and made a paste with water to whiten upon someone’s recommendation from here. Worked great Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is a lull. Lull doesnt mean that it shuts down completely, just slows down. Obviously we all know this happens around the end of november and then ramps up again for what we call the second rut. There is definitely a second peak...look at the biology. Even you admit to a lessening, so when the does recycle they cause a second peak. Not as big as the first, but a second none the less

You can get a lot of do overs in ,life . You can get another job if you lose one , you can get remarried, flunk out and go back to school , but every bullet you fire is gone for ever , and you own it .

There is no excuse for this "hunter" !! He should be prosecuted, and do hard time! My grandson and I had a monster buck standing on the top of a ridge on Saturday. Only thing we could see behind him was sky. I called off the shot. Easy call. No idea where that bullet would have ended up had my grandson missed, or had a pass through. This non shot, is stressed at every hunter ed course we give! I sincerely hope your neighbor fully recovers. My prayers to him and his family.
