  1. I just wanted to throw out a big thank you to all of you guys! I harvested my first deer with a muzzleloader today, a spike under 3 inches. I got to camp last night, woke up this morning and went to pick up the ML after having the new scope mounted. As I got there they were just finishing cleaning the gun. They had actually sighted it in for me that morning. I took it home redialed it in using Blackhorn 209 and waited for my buddy to arrive. We decided which stand we would each sit and started walking. About half way to my stand this guy ran in front of me and stopped broadside at about 40 yards with a clear shot. I fired and he hunched up and slowly walked off. I knew right then and there he was gut shot. I watched Him bed down at about 90 yards. I reloaded and fired he Immediately flopped his way down the hill and came to a stop. I went back to the house to get the ATV and meet my buddy. First shot really hit the liver and just nicked the stomach. 2nd shot I aimed for the neck as it was all I Could really see, I hit the head and basically blew off one of his ears. Hence no real pics of the head lol. I just wanted to say this deer belongs just as much to all of you for all the great advice! It really is a honor to be apart of just a great community. Thank you all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. A couple weeks before I shot him........looks like he's limping a bit? Maybe that's why he was only going 73mph when I shot him?!?!

  7. My wife thinks euros are creepy. She doesn’t gripe about shoulder mounts so in the interest of cooperation my 2 euros were relegated to my basement hunting room. Bought these cheaper skull hookers on Amazon. They work great. Easy on and off but secure. Plus you can tilt euro or turn it side to side. Not bad for $20.

  8. find a brushy spot and tuck in where wind is in my favor. Scout out spot ahead of time so you are set when you get there.

  9. I processed the bigger doe I shot saturday and she weighed in at 140 field dressed. I was thinking she was going to be at least 150 but I’ve never weighed a doe before. Does anyone else weigh their does? If so, what’s an average doe weigh? I shot a big one last year that I got 60 pounds of meat off but I didn’t get a dressed weight on her. 12. Finally able to at least climb and be more mobile while awaiting neurosurgeon appointment next week. Had one of those hunts Sunday morning with a plan to get this guy and it worked. There's a couple more opportunities for late season MZ; finishing strong!

  13. It was one of the best seasons for me and my son took his first deer during youth weekend (a doe)... the pic on the left was my bow buck and then my gun buck on the right. I only hunted 2 days during bow and 2 days in gun so the season was fast, i wish it was not over so quick. I did hunt several days just to get out and watch, a couple times i didn't even carry a weapon.. I have a doe tag left that i may decide to use during muzzleloader...I have enjoyed reading all the great stories on the site this past season! Hope everyone had a safe season and have a Merry Christmas!

  16. Thanks for the kind words everyone! It was unfortunate the season had to end early, but the knee is getting better every day. My wife was sorry I hurt my knee, but happy we got to come to Florida earlier than normal. Thank God lateral movement doesn’t hurt my knee, golf is not off the table. Kunox is now in gecko hunting mode.

  17. I'm going with Biz on this one. It'll always bug me if I had a deer mounted with a different cape, I know because I did it once, doesn't feel like my buck as off as it sounds. Every deer cape is unique to me and that cape goes with that rack. Fish, I'm fine with repos but not big on fish mounts anyways so I really don't care. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  18. hated to kill this fish for a mount as I have caught and released a bunch of large northerns but this was my best ever. And after the fight we had she was about done.

  20. Lol, so your friend died because they couldn't find him? Even though he had a phone? And it's because he wasn't wearing orange? My father died of a heart attack when I was a teenager. He was in his house. Just think, if he was wearing orange we may still be together today. Damn. Why don't you just stop trying to push everyone's buttons and act like a normal person. Give it a try, you might like normal.

  27. Definitely my most memorable hunt. After I shot him he ran down the hill and across the road into a cornfield. As I was following the blood trail across the road, a lady rode by on a bicycle and said "Are you looking for a deer? There's a dead one right there!" She kinda ruined the excitement of following the blood trail to the deer, but I was just happy to recover my first bow deer. That was 2013 and I haven't shot a deer with a gun since. Maybe next year?

  28. I'm the complete opposite! And find the plain white skulls boring. I try to find a camo pattern that has something to do with the hunt of that particular buck. Like snow camo for a deer taken in the snow. Or pines if it was killed there, or an oak pattern if killed there. I have had two euro's camo dipped, and my gun buck from this year will be too. (picking it up this weekend) The one from this year will be an oak brush camo. That is where he breathed his last breath, in some 'very' thick brush. And who remembers how cool wooly's skull carvings were! They were awesome! I just really like seeing the skull dressed up a bit. I have them done both ways. But an open pattern camo dip is my favorite.

  29. Yea he was my first deer with a bow... on my second hunt of the season. He was good sized but probably only 1.5. Im not good at judging age. This area has great genetics, and nutrition so I think they all “look older”. Most bucks in the area are typical with lots of symmetry. His bases were at weird angles and close together. But it was definitely an odd rack, had some palmation. 5 main points and 2 small ones on the back.

  30. Carry a stool, a shooting stick and find some cover 50-100yds closer. Go quiet predawn, set up and shoot him. Heck I got within 15' in bow. No doubt you can make this work! 200yds may be a doable shot too with a rest.

  31. I don't believe for a minute that you are putting out some kind of public service announcement. You're just using it because you saw a pic of Belo w/o orange, so you're stuck on that because it's all you've got. How come you abandoned your alter ego that started this thread? I was interested to see which one of your identities was going to be the weirdest.

  32. Don't do it! IMO the dips are heinous. It's a skull, it should be natural/white not camo or some other random color.

  33. Top was bow. Bottom is a dead head we found at my place several years ago (another gut shot buck) that I strongly suspect was the offspring of this guy. He would have been really cool in a few years.

  34. this is the leader right now. Starcraft 16 SC DLX - can transfer my motor to it. For price and what i want - I think this is gonna fit the bill. Getting quotes etc but hoping it works out. Upgrading my trolling motor system for sure with an autopilot and foot control and 24V system. But no back deck is a definite.

  35. Well it turns out I was hunting without an ACL this year. Maybe that hike I took up and around the side of the hill in slippery 2 inches of snow wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done. Surgery in January, should be mobile by Turkey season.

  36. I've had mine stick even with the lube after sitting in the cabinet for a year so I just leave the breach plug out for the year. Not convinced there isn't some moisture in the lube as well as the humidity in the house throughout the year. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Tapatalk

  38. I put a paste on breach plug threads when I put it away. Not a lot just a dab. its made by Thompson center fire. It's like an anti seize kind of thing.

  44. Capes vary alot. I try to match as close to the size/coloration of the original as possible when I need to use a replacement cape. I can pick up on the subtle little differences easily but most people are clueless. The difference in the capes from early October til late season are huge. I like mid October the best. Just mounted this one up over the weekend...gorgeous Oct 9th bow kill with a double throat patch.

  46. I killed a really big one a few years ago, I asked the Deer Shop to weigh her. When I picked her up I asked if they did and the guy says "Oh yeah", and writes 175lbs on the sheet. I dont believe he weighed her but I do think she was in that 140 range. She was absolutely smoked with the .270 and went over 330 yards

  47. Sorry boys, I'm out. Sort of. In the last 10 minutes of the regular season I got a 3pt. Was a 4 but he had one broken off already. Then when I took hold of him they both came off in my hands! Now I know how Charlie Brown feels. One more day and he would've been a doe.

  48. That looks like a winner! Even tho it has a steering wheel [emoji2961]. For a smaller boat that has plenty of dance floor for 2 guys and it will be easy to mount downriggers when you get sick of catching those lazy eyes. I’ve owned Starcrafts all my life and they’re great boats! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
