  1. Under the rules of the wise @turkeyfeathers we had an official WNY get together today when @Lawdwaz and I got together to celebrate @2012_taco retirement. Sorry no pictures where taken but a hearty congratulations goes out to @2012_taco for finishing the race and moving on to even better things in retirement! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. Mom weaned so he came home early . Hour and a half drive home . Didn't make much noise. Slept most of the way. Sleepy little slug. Ate a half a cup of food and passed out .

  4. Right... Isn't it 3 or more members together in the lower 48. And 2 members in Alaska or Hawaii or any foreign country except Canada where you have to be at least 300 miles from the NY Canadian border.... I think the same 300 mile rule applies for international waters if I'm not mistaken.

  5. I’ve been wearing Darn Tough socks for daily wear, year round for about 4-5 years now. They are guaranteed for life and today I exchanged four pairs with small holes in them for four new pairs. A couple days ago I found a great place: “Gear For Adventure” On Maple Rd (just east of Premier Liquor) that sells hiking/camping etc stuff. Being a Darn Tough dealer I inquired if they’d do my exchange. No sweat....bring ‘em in. So with all four pairs washed I swapped them out. Expensive socks but I love them and think they’re worth every penny even without the exchange. Gear For Adventure has had a store in Hamburg also for the past 13 years. The Amherst location has been open since May. Good people if you need some Good gear.

  6. Fun night but no yotes called in. I did miss a fox on a long Hail Mary when he wouldn’t commit and then missed one I should have killed inside 100yds. I better be at the academy when it starts. Treeguy was too busy filming an owl that attacked the caller to care about the fox. Lol. Regardless still exciting. Did see a nice yote on wrong side of road when pulling into last set. But he saw us too.

  7. When you pass yourself off as an expert, the tools you use are the one's that meet your specs. If you switch tools, you're saying you were wrong about your choice. Your expertise comes into question, especially when you are swayed by money. Your integrity is suspect. In the old days, people like Elmer Keith, Jack O'Conner and Col. Townsend Whelen didn't sell their souls for profit. They stood by their choices with conviction and maintained their integrity against all critics and sponsors. Those are the types of experts people respect and remember long after they're gone. Going for the money just puts you in the sales category.

  9. I think she's adopting rather well. Potty training is still a issue. Take her out and she's very happy to please me by going outside, which I praise her and give her a treat. However, she is as willing to pee on the floor even though I give negative feedback and boot her outside. Still needs work there..

  12. Well had a average year again 19 deer taken out of camp from bow gun and muzzleloader Several 1st deer and biggest buck taken for members in camp..bringing total from 1993 to 403 deer taken, if you average 35lbs of boneless meat from a deer it's a little over 7 tons of meat In friends and family's freezers. Perhaps the hunting in ny isnt so bad...

  13. It's not hard for me to remember starting out..... Giant spotlight. White gun light. Mouth calls. Homemade attractors and unlikely weapons. I've upgraded plenty of things over the years and I'm very happy with my setup. My advice on what you NEED: A gun your very confident in, with good glass The best call you can afford or an assortment of hand calls Shooting sticks / tripod Headlamp/ spotlight for scanning Kill light on the gun. Patience. My setup is an AR in 223 / vortex hog hunter Foxpro shockwave Trigger stick tripod Wicked lights headlamp Custom made kill light Cheap lights are hit or miss. I have a 20$ eBay special that's the backup/ loaner and it's fantastic at doing the job. It also came with a quick and easy mount for any scope. My wicked headlamp is great because its easily zoomed and turned up/down. Can't beat an AR for nighttime predators IMO. 223 is a perfect all around round. Had literally every model foxpro till I sucked it up after learning "why the expensive model is better" lesson too many times. Trigger stick is great cause it's light and easily adjustable. I have upgraded so much over the years.... My setup isn't top notch, but dangit does it work ! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  14. Golden Retriever I take it. I've owned four in my life and presently have one. Best dog ever for kids. And oh, what a nose. Present one makes a hobby of going into woods and within minutes brings out a deer part. She also tracks and finds field mice better than any cat I ever met. Her sister is a very gentle Pitbull that she raised and adores. Pitbull got in a tussle with a porcupine last year and came out of woods with a few quills in her. She showed it to her sister whining. Golden would have none of that and raced into woods. Well there's one less porcupine but Tilly had about seventy quills in her everywhere. Don't mess with my sister

  15. Well friday night was a major bust...went down to ashville area in chatataqua county. Buddy kept tellin me about the great spots to hunt yotes and fox... We have very differant ideas what a great spot looks like. Small open areas dont give ya a chance to really play the wind. Then the weather on top of it, thick fog followed by steady mist mixed with more fog, then heavy rain followed by fog...if you have never hunted with light in heavy mist or fog ill just ssy its almost pointless. Visibility was for the most part 50 yards max. During some breaks a little better. My buddy also needs to learn to control himself better. When he thought he saw eyes, he very loudly whispered over and over again "eyes"!!! Do u see the eyes!!... turns out after i got onto were he was looking it was rain water reflecting his light... went to bed at 4am...Tonight! Tonight is the night. We have probably 12-14 spots to hit, weather is better, its a area im familiar with. Tonight varmints will die!

  17. I happen to like Jim Shockey. I find his show uncharted to be very interesting. I don't really care what brand he uses . I will continue to use what brand works for me . Just so happens I use hornady for most guns . You can't hold any harsh feeling towards him as that's how he makes a living . Wish I was so lucky .

  19. So if Hornady came to you and said we will give you 250,000k to use our ammo you wouldn't do it? It's his lively hood. Of course he takes it, who wouldn't.... If they don't have sponsers they don't have a show.

  20. Nosler makes great bullets. Hornady does as well. Hornady just has more cash to offer Shockey to pimp their wares. The man has no brand loyalty.

  21. Be patient, she will figure it out. A kennel will help; you can use a divider panel inside of a large kennel to help with training as she grows. I miss my Jakey Dog more than words could express. Love is so much greater than the minor inconveniences of house breaking.

  24. We had a great year at the club on our almost 500 acres. After 7 years of bow and gun hunting a great guy got his first ever deer on the opening day of the regular season and its was a beautiful 8 pointer that's now at the taxidermist. Another gentlemen after 14 years of on and off not so serious hunting shot his first deer during the gun season a button buck after having some bad luck during bow on a couple different deer. Another shot a nice buck and doe while his 6 year old son was with him in the stand a first experience for them to be together. I of course had an awesome year taking 3 deer then to end the season 7 of us set out to drive our entire property moving 7 different deer and taking 3 of them. We covered between 7.5-8.5 miles that last day of the regular season. I hope every season is just like this one for the rest of my life.

  27. Yes I know it was a joke. Just seems people are awful hard on some of these hunting shows cause they try to hawk product. But if they don't they don't exist. Hornady seems like a good company as well. If he was talking bad about nosler maybe can see some issue. But he helped them for years too. So he goes to Hornady doesn't make him a bad guy.

  28. If you're looking for a black yote a little closer to home, I had one cross my path in daylight a few weeks back up in Braddock Bay. Not sure if it was technically black, but looked like a very big very dark German Shepherd.

  29. I like the reference of Jim as a sales rep. That's exactly what he is, and I don't mean that negatively. He's charismatic, and recognizable, and so he sells. It's hard to compare him to the old timers. So much has changed and evolved. That's would be like comparing today's athletes with their cutting edge diets and training regimens and equipment to the iconic guys of yesteryear. Different game today than it was.

  30. If I could hunt and fish for a living I would carry a Hornady sign on my back up the Thruway! Lol Cracks me up that people think bad of someone cause they switch bullet sponsers. While most of the people on TV and movies are so much more unlikeable but we will watch them and never question. Esp when every person on TV has a sponser or there wouldn't be TV. Jim shockey was a guide long before this. He worked hard for what he has and does. What a jerk he is to sell bullets. Lol

  40. We took 3 does and 3 bucks on 138 acres. My wife took her best buck (at the taxidermist) and as far as we know 80% of the bigger local bucks are still on their feet for 2020. Lots of sightings of deer, two flocks of turkeys almost every day, foxes, and various critters. Also had a bald eagle surveying one of our fields one afternoon. Lots of family time, good food, but sadly not enough beer consumed. Just think how big those beers will be next year!

  43. That's pretty good G-Man. Of the group I hunted with, I think we killed 12 or 13 with about 1/2 being bucks (all but one on a small 30 acre piece). 3 killed their best or 2d best bucks . Plus we had 3 new hunters out at my place - each had a shot and one scored. Not bad at all.
