  1. Saw about 16 today. I bumped 2 in the morning that circled around on me, but I passed because they didn’t give me a shot I wanted. With the shotgun I would have shot, but not with the muzzleloader. Then around 1:30 I had 14 deer come in single file behind me. Shot the lead for that turned out to be a doe fawn. When I shot they scattered, but only ran 15 yards. I was slow to reload cause of the adrenaline, but once I reloaded they walked off. Not mad cause I had a long ass drag to the car. Don’t think there was a buck with them, but you never know. I shot the first one I could, but now I’m wishing I would have waited. Either way I’m happy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. Looking forward to getting the thermal sighted on this AR10 in 6.5 creedmoor with the 95g vmax. Going to be a flat shooter out to 300. And from what I read, the ammo is a perfect match for the yotes. The rifle is only 6.5lbs so not bad to lug around either. Heavier than the 223 by a lb but a fun change up.

  3. I got home last night and was worried I would find her in a bad state. She greeted me normally, jumping and whining and wagging her tail. I let her out to do her business and took my headlamp with me. She squatted down with no issue and left a big ole steamer. Nothing looked abnormal. She ran around like usual and eventually inside we went. She inhaled her dinner like usual. I then checked her mouth, gums, teeth, throat best as possible. Only thing I saw was yellow build up on her front teeth. Didnt seem abnormal to me. I poked, prodded, tapped etc her mouth and her belly area looking for reaction from her. Nothing. I watched her mouth and didnt see anything leaking out. Where she laid her head I went and checked periodically for wetness. Nothing. The only hint she had something a little bit still was now and again (once every hour or two roughly) she would lick her lips. I think she was still producing a bit more than usual saliva but a lick now and again took care of it instead of it leaking out all over the place. She seems extremely fine and I opted not to go to the vet. I also found a great website on dogs eating fireworks! Listed specifically was sparklers, which was what she might have picked up. If no signs after 8 hours then there is no concern according to this article. I essentially ruled out any type of fireworks poison with that. It also said she needed to eat a quantity in order to have serious adverse affects. Since she may have only picked up one part of one, it didnt seem this could have done much to her. Im going to keep my eye on her for a while yet, but whatever was happening looks to be going away and nearly gone. Maybe it was a small piece of sparkler that moved through her body, maybe she got a burn on her mouth, maybe she ate something else. I did have a house full of people and another dog around for the weekend as well. Im happy as a clam she is OK.

  4. Step By Step.....for me. Put on my gut gloves. Cut around butt. Make small cut forward of pelvis, just big enough to get two fingers in. Using the two fingers to guide tip of knife to bottom of ribcage. Pull out guts, cutting away connecting tissue, pull down bowel and bladder. Reach in, grab windpipe with left hand. Cut windpipe, pulling out lungs and heart. Put liver and heart in the gloves. Done in less than five minutes. Now the work begins, getting it out and hung up. Share the story of the hunt, with friends and family. And post to HuntingNY! Sleep like a baby.........

  7. I don't know if I could skin a coyote with the poor German Shepherd watching. He loves hanging in the garage when we cut up deer, but a fellow canine might be a little awkward.

  17. anyone interested in some old North American Hunting Club Books? shipped to your door free of charge...send me a PM and I’ll decide who gets them, probably a little dated and not the best info, but good reading none the less, a few cookbooks in the lot.

  18. and a lot of people will tell you they've had really good and really bad bear. Bears eat a lot of nuts and berries, but they can also live at a dump...

  19. Hmmmmmmm. Had not even thought about porn but OK I see it being possible now after reading the subject!! I'm glad to know that the saliva is potentially expelling the toxins. Not sure what I would do without my duck hunting partner. Though she does have this very bad habit of picking up spent shells and chewing them. I gotta pick up the shells quicker.

  21. Are immigration Sanctuaries legal or constitutional? They are doing it though, in clear violation of federal laws. What I think is important is that we are beginning to attack these people with their own tactics.

  22. You should! LI has more deer than we know what to do with so taking a few fawns wont hurt the population, and you know that we dont have problems with doe tags Well when we shoot a deer we have to bring it in to the check station so they can age it and check it out. If its legally tagged as a doe, they give you back a doe tag on the spot. So I still have 3 tags that I can use, but two of them are basically unlimited doe tags

  32. There is no need to cut the hide or do anything special. You can feel the round lobe of the bottom of the sternum with your fingers. standing over the stomach area and facing the head, put your knife, tip down on a 45 degree angle and blade forward on one side or the other right next to that lobe. double handed with 3 upward strokes (more like brute slashes) and you are at the neck and totally through the rib cage. You'l know right away if you aren't following the correct line because you won't be able to pull it through the solid bone. We probably don't do enough videos of thing on this site. Maybe if I have someone with me next bow season I'll have them video the process I use. Others should do the same. There really isn't a right or wrong way to do any of this, including butchering. It's just the way that we are each comfortable with and what we probably grew up or got into the sport learning.

  33. I only use the gloves on Long Island, just to try and keep as many ticks off me as possible. I never split anything like a few here, it is a wast of time IMO. Takes about 5 min when done right, less if your good more if your enjoying the moment! lol

  34. Gloves are good for 2 reasons, clean the deer, then when done grab the heart and take them of inside out and heart is wrapped in the glove like a bag. I run up the rib cage but dont split the pelvis. I once shot two deer on opening day and my buddy asks what he could do. So asked him to go get the cart and before he got back had them both gutted and was waiting. If I had an electric knife i wouldve filleted them too!

  37. Not a tow behind but I refer to my Jari and the "Path to Mass Destruction" Samplings two inches and down are gone with little effort. Jari is like a mini tractor that has a powered sickle bar cutter on front. The company was still in business until a couple years ago. I put a new blade in it and replaced engine with Honda clone. Old engine was fine except gas tank leaked and I didn't need a fire in the field. When I first got it I didn't have manual. I started it, engage blades and then the drive. well unit took off for the races with me chasing behind it taking out everything in it's path. it turn out you only turn it on full throttle when you are in dense stuff.

  40. I recently got invited to Texas with a friend. Helicopter hunt , strapped in , stand on landing gear , full auto AR’s. Shoot as many as you want. $600 sounds pricey for a management pig. Old ones no good eating I’ve heard too.

  41. For me it’s a lot of swamp water. Really don’t want an open cavity going through knee deep swamp water. Other than the water nothing else stops me from doing it where they fell. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  42. I have the lapping tools and never use them. Levels and torque wrench with something to hold rifle - all set. There are some rifles that’s it impossible to level the gun without a flat feature like my savage 220. Then I just eyeball it.

  43. Has anybody ever successfully field dressed a deer with those disposable gloves using the latex over the long plastic ones and not still got blood all over their hands ? They definitely help though and a quick wipe on the pants and good to go

  44. I'm in my 8th season hunting public state land and watershed property. Unsuccessful in 7 years. Most days in the woods are time spent clearing my mind. I sit from dawn to dusk without see any deer. It gets very difficult to get into the woods season after season. So onto season 8. This year I put a trail camera up, and I had tons of pictures of bicyclists and hikers. So I abandoned that spot. Now it's less than 2 weeks before regular season and I walk a new public property and set up my camera. I check the camera 3 days before opening day. Had some pictures of some does. Saturday opening weekend, I shot my first deer at 830 at 15 yards. He went 10 yards, deer down.
