  10. I was just commenting on what you posted. I know how PETA operates, no need to nit pick what word I used. I have no issue with any type of hunting contest, as long as the participants are following all of the laws, no problem as far as Im concerned. Half the reason why the hunting community falls short with organizing against the threats to the sport, is because you have all of these little factions that have their mind made up that something is awful because its not what they would do, regardless of the legality. Alot of those factions act like they are afraid of their own shadow when it comes to anti hunting groups. "Dont post pictures of dead animals online." "Dont wear camo in public." "Legal contests are bad.", etc etc. To hell with that stuff, be proud of being a hunter, and support your fellow hunters that are doing what they do legally, even if you wouldnt choose to hunt that way. If someone is hunting illegally, go ahead and be vocal about it, but stop bashing other hunters because they dont hunt like you choose to. If we dont start supporting each other and standing shoulder to shoulder against these threats, we are going to seal the fate of the sport that we love.

  12. that's why i never judge anyone I meet based on appearance. Some dont care, others will go into debt for it. It almost always means nothing, but those that really have wealth tend to be the ones that flaunt and talk about it the least. If you hear a guy throwing out salary and cars, he doesn't have shit in my experience... or a small fishing hook.

  13. and imagine living in a state like CA where they just totally banned trapping. I can't wait to see the coyote issue they will have in 10 years. The tax payers are going to love having to pay the same guys that were willing to do it for free to just get rid of some. And since it will be nuisance work it is likely that the furs will not be allowed to be salvaged and utilized. How is that for being "GREEN" and properly utilizing a resource. I am kind of getting a kick out of the anti fur demonstration popping up all over with all the demonstrators wearing their synthetic fabrics and being anti fur. Next week they will be out marching against the big oil and chemical companies wearing a product made by that industry.

  14. Of course you are entitled to have your own opinion Belo! Everyone has their own! No problem at all with that, as we are all individuals. I think the point, is that as long as what any other hunter does is legally done, we as fellow hunters should support it. Even if it is something we may not do ourselves, be it ethically, morally, or just something we ourselves are just not interested in doing. I went duck hunting a couple times, and decided I love watching and seeing ducks much more than I liked eating or hunting them. But still bought my duck stamp every year. Just an example. Doesn't make me any better than you or anyone else. Just that I support "ALL" hunting, even if I choose not to participate in certain aspects of hunting myself. We are all too often caught up in bickering amongst ourselves, like crossbow vs compound vs recurve, 243 vs 30-06, stand vs ground, and the countless variables that define us as individual hunters. When in fact, we sometimes lose focus that we are all just hunters! And we should all respect our differences, and stick together for the common good of "ALL" hunters. Because as seen in this thread, there are many organizations out there, that would love to conspire against us, and tun us against one another. To end all hunting as we know it. They also seem to support each other in funding for their cause, and common goals, much better than we do. While we bicker and dicker over the little things. and lose focus of the big picture. Again......and I can't say it enough. Together We Stand. Divided We Fall.

  19. The area federation picked up the contest and is holding it. Not supporting is coming out against it - that's the problem WNYB, Grampy, me, and others have articulated. Neutrality is being complicit due to failure to act; questioning it as a whole because of your moral/ethical compass benefits only one side. And, that side isn't hunters. There's plenty of "in or out" stuff I don't agree with in the hunting community that is legal and/or respected in certain hunting circles, but I'm not going to raise awareness to that premise and certainly not by questioning it. This is a butterfly-hurricane effect - we should all recognize this. It'll hit home sooner or later.

  26. WNYB nailed it. Failure to support contests is supporting anti-hunting. No different than choosing not to place your republican vote in the ballot box in NY because the state always ends up swinging blue. Inaction is unacceptable. Honestly, I'm rather disheartened by some of the people and posts in this thread.

  29. I did not read through all of this thread, but saw the majority. I do not agree with if you aren't advocating for it then you're an advocate against it argument. There isn't a single person that agrees with everyone hunting or fishing regulation. Same as there probably isn't a republican or Democrat that hasn't disagreed with their party's policies from time to time. The whole statement is near sighted. So I support hunting as a whole to it's fullest but because I don't particularly like trapping I'm an anti Hunter? I've never once bashed someone for trapping, and don't care to participate. So am I against trapping? No. I just choose not to participate. I'm with the few on here who thinks the premise of quantity kill contests are a bad look to the scrutinizing public. That doesn't mean I'm against them, I don't agree with antis. It's just distasteful in my opinion. I've shot a fair amount of coyotes, I don't choose to "stack them like cordwood" and plaster the picture all over the place. Part of it has to do with the fact that I use little to no part of the animal. I'll get a bunch of loyal crusaders with a case of cabin fever responding to this but I truly don't care. You don't get to choose what "sportsman" means for everyone and your opinion is no greater than mine. The whole "hoorah we're hunters and we'll kill any animal we want and throw it in their faces mentality isn't always the best solution," IN MY OPINION... Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  32. 3 of my favorite quotes about the subject of sitting on the sidelines. It doesn't make you bad or wrong to sit and do nothing But it does allow those against us to move unfettered. "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." "Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing." “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.”

  37. These are absolutely entry level, but I like them more, and more as time goes on. They always work, and always alert me of motion day/night. However, I have mostly woods, so my actual lawn is not large. I have trees on 2 sides within 30-35’ from the house, the other 2 maybe 50’. I have a cam monitoring driveway, where i can actually read plates off. A second 15’ up aiming at the house, and one watching backyard. These work well for my scenario, keep in mind the max distances from the indoor receiver box. I also have Amcrest PTZ cameras indoors that look outside, where i can move the cams around with my phone. That also alert me, etc. The indoor cams, can only work during the daylight due to the infrared glaring back at itself off the window. I have to turn the infrared off, and if for some reason something is outside the motion spotlight at my driveway lights up, and I can see whats going on at that point with the indoor camera. The outdoor cams are also for piece of mind that a tree hasn’t fell on the house, etc while at work during windy days. i would secure that internet system, the Blink cams are VERY easy to get going. If you registered yourself on this forum you will do just fine! -Download Blink app on phone, register yourself on the app(like you did here on forum), put 2 lithium batteries in each cam, then “add” each cam to the app by adding its serial number/or “scanning” it in by a barcode, Enter your home wifi password, pretty much it. Directions are well written. Sorry Mowin, hope you don’t mind the side chat I had.

  38. The Hancock contest was instituted when the local DEC office determined the local coyote population was far beyond the desired number and was causing depletion of deer and wild turkey populations in the area. It is a management hunt and the money paid by the participants supports the Hancock FD. Without such coyote management in the area, which was not popular during January or February prior to the contest, the coyote problem would still exist. That is why another group jumped in to sponsor the hunt immediately. The anti's have been allowed to portray it as some kind of blood thirsty event that hurts wildlife. That is far from fact and should not be tolerated.

  43. I run industrial buildings. One of which is in the hood and all my buildings are ringed in and out with security cameras. These are all in western NY where you get to see on the news our snow storms. In CCTV days you would heat the housing but that was more a matter of condensation and heating to prevent dew point. You didn't want to have a fogged lens and camera needed to be in housing to be protected from elements. They weren't weatherproofed until in housing. Cameras generally ran off of 24 VAC to power camera and heating pad. Big and bulky With IP systems thing got much smaller and sealed. The housings are built into outdoor cameras and are never heated. I've run hundreds of cameras and never attributed a failure to cold or even nasty environment. I also run cameras at my home and cabin. Cabin is on mountain top. Freaking cold area in winter. Never a failure during a cold spell. By the way, Night Owl isn't that good. Lorex is decent. Don't go cheap on this stuff as you will save a lot of headaches. Like clockwork, they will never be working when you actually needed them to.

  47. I only have your words to go by. Generally, I don't agree with the soft language or action of "harvesting" and not wearing camo in public, etc. I don't see the obsession with social media posting of dead animals but I also don't take grip-and-grin fish pics. However, you have to acknowledge that there is a considerable difference of perception between a deer killed for the table and a dozen coyotes shot an displayed for a contest. I could sell the first to a vegan, while I have trouble selling the latter to myself. Especially when I began to look into it and realized that killing coyotes may not be doing what we think it's doing. To be clear, I'm not "not supporting" contest hunters. While I don't agree with them, I'm not trying to take away or obstruct their legal right to do so. I'm simply pointing out that these types of contests aren't helping any hunters overall cause.

  48. Some hunters are not fans of any hunting "contest". My personal view is... When prizes, be it money or merchandise, are introduced into hunting it tends to bring out the worst in some hunters. Some of whom will have no problem pushing the envelope of hunting regulations and ethics to win one of those prizes, or establish themselves as "the winner". I have no problem with a celebrated day where hunters get together for a city, county or state wide group hunt, but making it a contest has never set well with me.
