  5. I do not get the I am too busy, have no time or it is not worth the bother. It is really not hard to set up a spot for a few emergency supplies, a corner in a closet, garage or cellar with room enough to place some sturdy shelving along with some decent plastic totes. A proper setup will hold an awful lot of canned and dry goods. A stash of canned goods, cereals, rice, flour, dry milk, dried beans, pasta, dry soup mixes and sugar keep well for long periods and are some of the main ingredients for meal recipes. Utilize these things from time to time for your regular meals and replace, it will never go to waste. Same deal for a garden, you do not need a huge plot of land to produce a lot of vegetables, one would be surprised at the amount of stuff that can be grown in just big pots. The wife has just a small garden that produces way more than we can use ourselves, we have been using the stuff frozen and canned all winter and still have quite a bit left. Al

  7. A friend asked me to make a table for his wife so I threw this together. Shee wanted it a specific height and size. Now the dilemma as most everything I build is a donation, I have no idea how much I should charge? There's probably $100 in wood, and over 10 hours in labor.

  14. She did really well. She shot her first two groups ever at 100yds with a rifle using the 204 I just built. They posted out of order. First is me at 185yds with cheap FIOCCHI ammo. One flyer but it’s a shooter. Second and third are Natalie. She lost the fear of the gun and did well. Something to do when everyone is social distancing. Seeded the plot with clover too.

  26. Just wanted to let people know. If you are an oxford resident and a child in school they have 2 meals per kid each day for pickup and its alot my teenager couldnt finish it. One is at the school another is in mcdonough. This food doesnt depend on income if you have a kid in the system(actually my 3 yr old is also) they have 2 full meals for pickup. If anyone knows someone or is apart of the school and needs help picking up food me and my wife will be trying to help get the food to the kids. Im sure alot of schools are doing the same just trying to get the word out for people. Biz one of my friends wife is a manager at a big chain store and they have formula hidden behind the service desk because people were stealing it. So that might be the situation as well.

  30. Just got this from BIL with a friend at FEMA: "Please listen...Homeland Security is preparing to mobilize the National Guard. They are gonna dispatch them across the US along with the military. They will also call in the 1st responders. They are preparing to announce a nationwide 2 week quarantine for all citizens. All businesses closed. Everyone at home. They will announce this as soon as they have troops in place to prevent looters and rioters...they will announce before the end of the weekend, within 48 to 72 hours the President will evoke what is called the "Stafford Act". The President will order a 2 week mandatory quarantine for the nation. Stock up on whatever you need and make sure you have a 2 week supply of everything." Only time will tell how true this is, but if it IS true, I wanted to share with all of you. @moog what is the stafford act?

  32. I got up at 5:00am to take my wife shopping at Stop & Shop this morning. Unfortunately I'm now in the high risk group ( over 60 , copd and diabetes). Thankfully they gave us older people a head start food shopping being that we're the most vulnerable to the virus. How depressing it was......especially with no hotties to look at. Lol

  33. Agree Al . While our shelves aren’t as loaded as in the past , I’d say we could eat 5-6 weeks , and the deer meat would last well beyond. The point is partly to buy on sale and stock up , that way , one it’s cheaper and two we never run out of things . I don’t need six bottles of Italian dressing at one time , yet I never go “ crap I wanted some to marinate some venison, and we’re out .” I simply go down stairs and grab one , get down to a couple ,then buy more . While our gardening is limited to box gardening , it can be rewarding just like providing meat through hunting . I do find it ironic that so many here plant “ gardens “ for the deer to eat , but none for themselves . Another point, someone laid off from work ,that has a month or two,of food at home ( or more ) , will surely find that comforting I’d imagine. Well off to walk the dog , then try to buy a bit more food for the shelves .

  35. 18 + MONTHS?!?!? 8 weeks is too long!! If this crap lives for 2 weeks, we need to shut the country down for 16 days and be done with it. The idiots that want to break the rules and do whatever...jail them for 18 months. I'd rather pay for them with our taxes than with our health.

  39. Hey that’s fine . I haven’t looked at my investments at all since this started , when dow was around 23 or 24 k I thought no big deal , now under 20 yikes . My differed comp is 100% in general fund paying around 4% which being my largest fund is actually returning a fairly large sum, my individual stocks I haven’t looked at ,letting them ride it out lol . Im blessed to have a pension that’s saving me . Wifes 401k is her largest fund , and 60 / 40 stocks bonds , to late at this point to reallocate I think , we haven’t drawn off anything yet . I’ve never tried to time the market as most get out low ,and wait to long to be sure when jumping back in on upswing , who knows though . Good luck .

  42. I agree 100% with TC III on this one....The dems fielded the most despised woman in politics and she damn near beat Trump.. Biden would have smoked him... I said at the time that I would rather be kicked in the nuts than vote for Trump, but I would rather be breastfed by Bruce Jenner than vote for Hilary... . I still consider The Donald a braying jackass but I think he's done a decent job in the last four years.. Being an asshole doesn't make him a bad president...

  43. Idk, I think times have changed and have been relatively uneventful or at least nothing has caused a long term impact to disrupt life. Overall, COVID-19 could be a short term impact and be old news by the fall. Even in my life time, being born in the late 70’s has there been any long term events that could condition a generation, doubly so from us generation X’ers or Millennials? The only reason I think my home is as prepped as we are for the short term, would be to look at it from a hobby approach i.e things that have been important to me. I’ve always needed to be busy, year round...preferably outdoors. Small motors have alway fascinated me...air, fuel & fire. I’m cheap and like to stretch my money. I could do a deep dive on buying used, but I’ll save everyone the anguish. I have TREMENDOUS respect for tools, knowing how to use them and maintain them. Keeping some extra canned good and non-perishables around just makes sense. My grandmother used to can...everything. I’ve done a bit of canning myself, but could expand easily. Having a fireplace or even better have a wood stove, as we do now. I take care of my neighbors. I don’t wear earbuds solely to avoid conversation. I feel like I could go on and on. I’m 42 years old now, everything I’ve mentioned above has been part of my life time investment. I’m still learnings. My next generation will be my only legacy. If the COVID-19 is your day one, then the lesson starts today. Honestly, when things started getting nutsie, I picked up an extra 50 lbs of dog food, 2 extra lbs coffee and 5 extra gallons of gas. I’m sure there’s other odds and ends. I didn’t run out and fill my fridge/freezer with perishable food goods, didn’t buy any OTC medicines, didn’t buy the last box of ammo at Walmart, didn’t panic, didn’t t clear a shelf. I had the choice to stop and think, do we need this or does someone need it more? However, I’ve alway thought observing other fulfill these needs was a good temperature check.

  44. Ok it’s yours , be advised the cat pukes on it quite often , gives it a nice three D effect . I don’t believe that’s her commenting on the rug , she just eats to much canned food sometimes .
