  3. Have 2 weeks vacation, time to finish small pond I built last year, maybe another small pond and grade out some logging roads, get a few fall plots worked up.and planted. Foresters marked trees today so I dont have to do one section of roads as they will regrade when done logging, may rebuild a few blinds with the extra time saved.

  4. I am still active as a NYS Bowhunting Instructor. As well as our sportsmans club archery chairman. I hope to never appear to be a bowhunting snob. In fact I encourage all to hunt with whatever you like, as long as it's legal. I do hope though, that at some point, it will be mandatory to have to have the Bowhunter certification to hunt with crossbow. As an arrow, and black powder bullet, kill in different ways. IMO....This crossbow debate is pointless. It is already legal to hunt with one. What's the big deal??? Who really cares what hunting implement is easier to hunt with??? Or when you hunt with it?? Not me. Hunt with what you like. Let others do the same. It's all still just hunting.

  5. Only got an hour on the lake after dinner tonight but was fortunate for this fatty...tackle box is 16"...also had two loons pop up behind me and while taking picture had a bald eagle fly over. Both are in the shot but, you can't really tell what either is. The black dot middle left is eagle and two black dots on the water are the loons Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

  6. Had a great day on Saratoga Lake. Put a bunch of LM bass in the boat. A light chop, made boat position a bit harder, fishing main lake structure. But it also helped with the bite.

  8. that's not true at all. And the fact that you, a non deer hunter or archer feel informed enough to speak on it is laughable. The 2 extra weeks were concessions for the youth season AND, and I will emphasize AND, because we lost the last weekend of the season. Remember, the gun opener was always on a Monday. As many of the vets on this board will confirm, the last weekend before that Monday is always in and around the rut and one of the best weekends to fill an unpunched tag. I can promise you, not many here spend a lot of times in the woods sweating, stinking up good stands and swatting mosquitoes the first 2 weeks of October. There is little movement for those that don't have them patterned them over a plot.

  9. I decided that I needed a designated deer AR-15. I used a 223 once and killed a big doe but wasn't happy with the results. I wanted to stick with an AR-15 due to the short/light configuration. After a bit of research I decided on the 6.8SPC. Finally got her all assembled except for the Rise Armament 3lb trigger which should show up tomorrow. Haven't put any rounds through it yet, but pretty happy with the fit/feel so far. It's NY compliant, I used a Mean Ma maglock. Hopefully it works well on deer, on paper it looks good! 11. They won 6-1 tonight, only run allowed was on a line drive single that got by my child in center and ran for miles on the concrete outfield lol. But she was 1-2 with a walk. Good start to the season! It was AMAZING seeing four fields going at once, packed parking lot and fans everywhere Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  12. Close is when they show up in the middle of the night to demand your passports and send you to a detention center for disagreeing with them, which is exactly what happened the night my wife's family fled to Belgium from a mineral excavation site in Algeria where her father was the head Romanian geologist. But I get you. I happen to think that government frequently oversteps its bounds. In the case of masking, though, I could care less what the government says. It's respect, common sense, and risk-reward. The cost of masking is small. If it doesn't help, then we're not out much. But the cost of not masking could be somebody's life. Tony Fauci is a doctor first, and plays politics by necessity. Believe me, he has nothing to gain here by asking folks to mask. I know lots of people at NIH including my mentor Larry Tabak, currently Deputy Director (and former UR professor for many years). He and most down there work around politics to get the job done. They are a dedicated group of scientists and doctors who, right or wrong, are working for what they feel is the common good. But don't get me started on the shutdown. Lots of decisions were made that were supposedly based on science, but as a scientist they seemed arbitrary to me. Our undergraduate campus still requires faculty to get dean's approval and check in with security to access their office. They are anticipating a 10% drop in tuition revenues, but if cases shoot up on campus, that number is going to be much higher, and the institution will be in dire financial straights. More so, anyway. These decisions appear to be driven by $$, to nobody's surprise.

  18. I told y'all I'd see you in the fall as this place can get pretty toxic sometimes, but someone tipped me off to this so I figure I'll defend myself. As stated a billion times by me, I'm not a fan of crossbows for those who are not disabled or elderly. Mostly because I believe archery is meant to be a challenge and isn't supposed to be easy. Bill is a case study on this. Doesn't and wont hunt unless you make it easy enough for him. Do crossbows affect where I hunt? No. But man if I was hunting public land it'd bum me out to see that added pressure from guys who may not take the same precautions with scent and reducing their impact. Or maybe public land hunters can use that in their favor? idk. At the end of the day, and if it was my vote I'd leave the current season just the way it is. I wouldn't even repeal it. But I wouldn't ever vote full inclusion. Instead I'd push for an age and disability program, even if the later was easy to abuse. If you're not disabled and have the time and energy to make an appointment, pay your copay and convince a doctor that you need his signature... well Joe Biden has a campaign for you!

  19. whether we are talking about a stick bow, compound, x bow, ML or firearms, people need to know their limitations and the limitations of their equipment. That is a large part of taking an ethical shot. You were confident you could take that shot and make it and you did. I've only shot about 4 deer outside of 20 yards with an arrow. Waiting for the right shot isn't the worst thing in the world. And let's be honest. We've all seen the stories on here and other sites of folks that are "experienced" bow hunters. Every year there are shots that probably shouldn't have been taken. I'll be seeing him tonight and I'll check if he still wants in. I think it would be neat to chronicle.

  21. We won tonight 7 to 5 which is amazing because we were down five to nothing for five innings then exploded for five and tied them and then eventually beat them in the heat it was a good game for both sites my daughter went O-fer 3 w a walk and run scored and she pitched the last inning in relief. We only played one game but it was good

  28. if they are huge and starting to split - can pick them and let them ripen in the window. They will still ripen just stop growing. And a good recipe for you.... slice a green tomato, egg wash and bread crumbs and fry it. then a piece of canadian bacon/bacon on it, an over easy egg, and some hollandaise sauce. A version of eggs benedict with a twist.

  32. i think its because the hospital doesnt want to get overwhelmed with testing. If everyone that thought they might have it or want to get tested went to the hospital it would just be a mess. They are saving staff for treatments etc. Just like bloodwork is done at a seperate testing location.

  33. Hospital gave him all that info. That not what I'm getting at. Hospital couldn't test him, with multiple symptoms, because he wasn't admitted to the hospital. But someone with zero symptoms can drive up to a mobile site and get tested. Just think it's backasswords. Someone going to the ER with symptoms should get tested regardless if they get admitted or not. Not send home, then required to drive back to the same hospital the next day after calling a number and getting a test appointment.

  37. I'm elderly, but I have no interest using a weapon that does not burn powder... If bowhunting is your hobby, FINE as long as you don't consider yourself superior to those whose hobby is NOT bowhunting....That said I killed half a dozen whitetails and an elk with a compound. I would have happily shot every one of them with a rifle and been as happy as a clam if it were legal...Once again..Bowhunting snobs who think they are superior to the rest of because they choose to do things differently.

  38. When I read that it’s 10-15 minutes inside 6’ of an actual sick person I really start to question wtf we are even worried about. I gotta believe the vast majority of transmissions are from direct contact with the virus and then touching your face/mouth/nose. Like every other illness.
