  1. "Likable" only goes so far in my book. Hard to feel too good about a likable guy when he is shaking your hand and smiling at you and reaching around with the other hand to take your wallet or empty your gun vault,...or paying someone else to do it. That is how I view supporting liberal causes or politicians.

  7. Here is my idea for all those who want to defund the police. Since the amount of police actions factors into how much funding a police agency receives, those who want to defund the police can help by reducing police activity. The “defund the police” supporters should: 1. Wear a distinctive wrist band that identifies them as a “defund the police” supporter. If they are a victim of crime, the police will not involve themselves. They are on their own to be raped, robbed or rolled without having to get the police involved. 2. Identify their property, vehicles, bicycles and other property with distinctive signs that identifies the property as being owned by a “defund the police” supporter. If they are a victim of crime, the police will not involve themselves. By reducing police involvement, then the police can be defunded since they will not have to have to protect or investigate crimes against a “defund the police” supporter.

  8. this will be my 2nd year doing taxidermy and I would like to offer my services to anyone on this forum who's in or around the capital region. I'll do deer shoulder mounts for $150. I need more practice so as long as I break even on the form and materials I'm happy. Please don't expect master quality work as I am still a beginner, but I will do my very best. Last year I did 7 deer (2 of which were from forum members), 1 coyote, 1 moose and a few fish. I've done a few turkey fan mounts too. Thank you and good luck this season

  9. I picked up a new Thompson Center Encore frame to use with a 45-70 barrel I have, I had to do a little fiddling around stoning the bolt so the hammer would cock, got that done and took her out to test some handloads. Started out a 50 yards and although the 2.5 Leupold scope when mounted was bore sighted I could not hit the paper, brought out my other bore sighter and did another bore sighting, took another shot and still missed the target, that was a first for me. Anyhow moved to the 25 yard target and found I was shooting low. Got the elevation in the ball park and proceeded to sight in with Barnes 350 gr spitzers loaded hot. The left target was at 25 yards, two in the same hole. Moved things back out to 50 yards again, first shot a little high made an adjustment and had two touching about 1.5 inches high and that it where she is staying. I have to say this rifle shoots great but it's light weight (6 1/4 lbs) makes it very unpleasant to shoot recoil wise. Al

  11. I didn't realize they were the same person. He lives around the corner from me and he is a really good guy. Went to a local gun auction with him. I don't understand his politics, but he does a lot of work with getting kids into shooting sports etc. My nephew was going to go to one of his classes before all the covid BS started.

  13. A picture of a dead Bigfoot shot in the Cape Breton Highlands. The hunter ( Shotgun Murry ) claimed to have shot it, but after extensive research it is believed to have died from Corona virus. He was already dead when the hunter shot him. It was also proven by the CBC NEWS that this was all Trump's fault. TRUE STORY ! I saw it on Facebook!

  14. He is certainly entitled to his own opinion, as we all are. Probably would have been much better for him here, if he had just stuck to the hunting and shooting topics. And not so much the political ones. As he did have some intelligent and resourceful posts, about hunting and shooting, along with getting youths involved. I never had a problem with SplitearLeland/Revenant. But I can overlook most things I don't agree with, as long as it's not being shoved on me. He never tried to force his political views on me, that I can recall. It's just that very few, from the majority of a hunting site. Are going to agree with any left leaning views in general. And are willing to voice their own opinions. And rightfully so. Perhaps he'll come back again? Perhaps not?

  17. I have a few minutes now so I will post up a good story relevant to radish planting. Last season, one of our farms that we hunt on, had a pretty poor crop year and scooped up what beans they had during the usual timeframe in late Sept/early Oct. They cover cropped those fields a week later with an interesting mix of some clover, some triticale, and daikon/tillage radish. It was really present to me how late it was for the radish to make any useful gains (soild aeration, decompacting, etc.). To my surprise come late season, they were not huge mountains that we like to see in our food plots, but they had small 6" leafy greens and small needle-like radish. They competed directly with our food plots of August planted Radish that were magazine worthy. In some cases the deer spent much more time on these later planted radish with thick snowcover in specific areas because they felt more protected. The clover and triticale helped, but it was clear the deer were eating radish first based on physical observations in stand and glassing. We were able to commit many common sins of hunting pressure on a field edge late in the year because that draw was so powerful. We got away with alot and eventually it resulted in a great buck going down. All that with a cover crop planted somewhere between 10/1 and 10/7. The tonnage might not have been comprable, but the draw was at or greater.

When I first saw it , I thought , I wonder why someone is putting a camera in their Cellar . Realized when I read it that it was for cellular trail cam help . Just be thankful that I am not a spelling Nazi !

  23. If I remember right this was the episode that was shot in NYS and if I remember right he talked about how he knew he could take that shoulder shot because of his heavy arrow set up and the close range the Buck was at. I believe he said if it was a different arrow set up or a longer distance he never would have taken that shot. I only have one Bow deer under my belt so I am no expert but I am a very Keep It Simple kind of person so I shoot fixed blade Muzzy's. The arrow entered in between the ribs and impacted the shoulder on the other side and did not pass through. I watch where the deer went down but decided I wanted to find and follow the blood trail just to brush up on my skills. In the low light of being just after sunset I found blood immediately and had no problem staying on the trail at a quick pace. The blood trail got so thick I gave up following it after 30 yards and just walked to the deer because I was not going to learn anything new following the trail. That right their gave me enough of a reason to stick with fixed blades. As they say if it works don't fix it.

  24. Yeah. I shoulder hit a GD Monster 11 point with this nasty looking drop tine, my 3rd year bow hunting. Once again, from a steep angle because I hunt hillsides. Didn't penetrate. Made me sick, first deer I ever lost. And I thought "Oh well that's the game, next time make a better shot." Then I'm watching THP this spring and Aaron blow through a big deers shoulder with a cut on contact and I'm like "what?!?! That's a thing?!?!" No I'm not going to deliberately take that shot once I'm set up and running fixed, but eff me it would be nice to feel confident I'll drop one if it has to go through some big ol' ribs. And my confidence in rage is shot. I'll keep them on my crossbow for now, but that's pretty secondary for my desire to take a truly big boy with bow.

  28. The does decide when they want to die by walking into range. I like to shoot does early, that way I'm not stressed out the last week of archery because I haven't killed any. My goal every year is shoot the first two 1.5yr old + does when the opportunity arises. Once that's complete I'll usually let the rest walk and look for antlers. 3 deer per year is what my wife and I use so I don't like going over 3 or 4 at most. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  30. I take them as they come . I usually set up for a buck, but if presented with a good shot on a full size doe, and I'm not miles from the rd I will shoot.. That said, the 1st week I will stay closer to the rd so I can get some venison in the fridge early..

My kid asked, “I don’t really know anything about her since I don’t pay attention too much to politics [honest!] but it seems like he just picked her because she is black (ya know BLM riots and stuff) and a woman. Isn’t that racist AND sexist? I mean won’t African Americans and woman just see that she was picked for those reasons and may not be the best person for the job?” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. I think having a trailer there would complicate things for you, as far as liability....any building/structure you would want a security deposit, etc. . Who is responsible for cleaning after use? Risk of fire with the propane heater/stove? Water, sewer clean out, etc. My opinion is that I would only rent/lease by the season or year, letting the other party supply thier own tent/trailer,etc. I certainly wouldnt break the property into smaller parcels to lease. One party on ten acres may be fine in the right spot, but four parties in forty acres or so is no where near enough elbow room.

  41. I think more thought goes into broadheads than necessary. Use a good flying head, make sure it's sharp and shoot straight. You can use a 1" bone breaker of a broadheads, hit one too far back and wish you had a bigger cutting surface. Or you can use a 2.5" head and hit one in the shoulder and wish you had the 1." Everyone has different experiences with different heads because every situation is different. These are thin skinned light game we're talking about, not Africa. Don't overthink it! I shot a 190lb dressed buck last year with my trusty NAP Spitfire XXX and it blew right through him. If you have a heavy draw weight bow don't be afraid of big holes. Decrease cutting diameter as your draw weight goes down. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk
