  1. Hi Everyone, Back again, and giving it one more shot. I know, it's annoying. Last time around I did exactly what I told myself I wouldn't and went down into the mud. Going to do my best to keep to the hunting/guns/outdoor section. It's getting close to hunting season, and I have a ton of questions, and quite honestly am looking to your knowledge of NY hunting and laws. I hope to stick around this time, and hopefully no one holds any hard feelings about past discussions that took place at the bottom of the forum. Feel free to give me a hard time, I think I've earned it. I will give one quick update on my hunting, as a few weeks ago I had my first hunt in NYS. Took my 10/22 (formerly my Dad's old 10/22) out and got a mess of squirrels. Cooked them up the next day on my camp stove (my wife wouldn't let me cook them in the house) and my daughter had her first taste of wild game

  5. Always fun to take my wife out for a little preseason freezer filling adventure. We were covered up in deer for the past couple of evenings including several nice bucks that would have been in trouble had it been November. Can't wait to get back out thursday! She told me before be I left for work she found me a sitter for Thursday night so I can pick up my son at 3 from daycare drop him off at her mom's and off to the woods. She said since I've been itching to get out she said to go. this week just got better.

  13. Hung this bad boy up today. No more pulling a rope to hoist up deer. Rope and pulley worked great for years but we were all ready for something easier. Picked it up at harbor freight for 99$. 440 pound capacity, should work great for deer. Although the first one i bought was faulty and i needed to exchange it.

  16. Did a ton of work this weekend and besides a few last min minor details the new stand is ready to go. Alivia worked hard right along my side all weekend as we framed in the windows, hung the door and did some painting. I didn’t take any pictures this weekend until late today when I realized I would want to have this moment, this weekend captured in the memory bank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I posted this on FB last night....Seriously, I’m not into drama. Someone mentioned me being an essential worker, and after thinking about it, I’m going to consider myself one. What‘s the difference between me and a store employee? Nothing....we’re both supplying food. I’m open for business.

  27. Last pre-season pull of the year showed all of the usual suspects, we still have some nocturnal shots of the really nice one, same location too. Tons of small bucks this year and they are getting restless. Every camera had shots of sparing, cool to see for sure.

  33. My guess is that there won't be too many more hunters in the field than before. Not like people all of a sudden have become hard core hunters that will stick with it for the long haul. People are just as lazy as last year so I can't see them getting their butts up very early in the morning to freeze on a stand for hours on end. Most of the increased license sales were probably due to the online hunting courses where people are getting licenses for family members just to get the extra doe tags. Most of these people may never step into the woods.

  35. Well I follow your collective advice and settled on the Optima V2. This weekend I mounted scope (Old Bushnell Banner I had), installed Blackhorn Breech plug, made up 100 grain loads by volume, used Game-crusher sabots with Hornady XTP bullets and then sighted it in. Wow It took a whole three shots to put it on target and then three more told me this thing is stone cold accurate. One thing I did immediately notice as in my old muzzle loader I use Pyrodex pellets,. using Blackhorn you don't have to wait two minutes for the smoke to clear to see what you shot. :-)

  37. Ill take a gunslinger racking up yards and TDs with an INT thrown in over a Tyrod "never turns it over" 140/1/0 and the defense bails us out win anytime. And the pick yesterday was nonsense, Im expecting one of those league officiating "we got it wrong" letters today.

  39. Took this morning and evening to first shoot 8 rounds of federals 8 rounds of Remingtons and 8 rounds of Larry’s to see which grouped better. The federals did not group well out of the gun at all the Remingtons did ok but in all honesty Larry’s stacked them in a tight little 2”x2” group so this year I will be hunting with some of Larry’s finest hand loads and it would be an honor and a cool story to take a deer with these. The outer ring is a 4” circle and the filled in circle is one inch. The high three are one group to which I then adjusted the scope and hit the 1” circle 2 times on the last 2 shots at 100 yards. 42. Jenn, and I spent the weekend up at camp. Last time we were there we cut a quarter mile of ATV trail towards the deep end of our property. We noticed game trails on the existing trails, so at the far end of our new ATV trail, we set up a cam...and oh my god, we were blown away. A beautiful 9 point Adirondack buck with a drop/kicker tine. Bad picture, as it was a picture of the screen off of our card reader.
