  1. I guess ill start this off. Sat in my usual stand, call it the swamp stand. This doe makes 6 deer in 6 years ive taken from this stand, 3 bucks 3 does. About 820ish i caught a glimpse of legs goin through a thick area. Probably 830 a doe pops out 40 yards to my slight left. Shes all alone from what i can see, starts feeding to a trail 22 yards from me. Walks out onto the path facing dead on with me. I havent drawn yeat and waiting for the right time. She reachs her head back to lick her back and i draw, her head comes around and she takes 1 step. So now shes quartering towards me and looking at me. I settle my pin on the top of her lead shoulder and shoot. My lumenock shows i hit were i was aiming. I know alot of people wont take this shot and i understand. Im comfortable with it. She spun around at takes off. I settle down at sit back for 20 minutes, then climb down and head to the house. I get a drink and eat a little something, drop a layer and head back in. I get back to were i shot her probably a hour after the shot, i pick up on her tracks and find blood and bloody corn. I know the arrow exited through the guts. Im confident i got 1 lung and alot of extras. At this point i go back to my house, to get my dog. I worked with him alot last year with tracking. I wanted to see if he still remembered what to do on his walk.I know u cant track deer unlicensed in ny. I was just taking my dog for a walk on my property. We followed blood and got past were i had stopped. He kept goin, got hung up for a min then back to walkin. Would you believe he walked right up on that dead deer! She made it 150 yards and piled up. We ran out of venison a month ago so very happy to put more in the freezer. On to buck hunting!

  8. Hunting a new property that me and the 3 boys and dad put in some work on over the last few months. What a beautiful morning. I was covered in deer from 8-10. I went in knowing I'd shoot a nice doe if it was a high probability shot. I had 3, 2.5/3.5+ does work their way in and had a perfect, slightly quartering away shot at 22 and my heart just wasn't feeling it. This stand has a long drag and it's warm and I had a conference call at 11... Then 2 moms and 3 yearlings/fawns come in. I wasn't going to shoot a mom today. Finally as I think the activity is dying down the first buck showed up. What a great start to the season.

  9. 4 bucks just cruised by me, all pretty nice racks. Unfortunately I am in my driveway armed with a recycling bin. Most action I've seen on October 1st in years!

  10. For those unaware, we are not supposed to comment in the harvest thread. Just post harvest pics and “likes” if you want. Not that I care and I am currently violating the rule by posting this. lol

  13. I am in. Ground blind after work. Not expecting to see anything but to paraphrase a wise philosopher named Fletch. &#$@ Covid, #&$_ politics, $&#_ riots and everything else this year. I'm hunting! Sigh.....

  15. Best of luck to all remember your harness at all times . Had a buddy fall 30’ already broke 4 vertebrae and collar bone he’s lucky to be alive and walking . All cause he left his harness at his truck. We all have climbed without one . I won’t anymore. Be safe all!!

  17. Trying this new phantom saddle this year. Much lighter than my stand and it seems much better on my back. Hunted until 9:00 and saw zero deer. I was just happy to be out in God’s great outdoors.

  18. I was alerted by the cam that this guy was entering the plot. Dang leaves on the trees, I couldn't see him till he got in the plot. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  21. We had a great morning and had opportunities to harvest deer. My son had chances on a 6pt and another smaller buck and a few doe but held off, he’s holding out for bigger he says.

  26. Nice congrats! I took a doe with a longbow this morning but never took a pic. It was a little warm and I was hustling to quarter it and stick in a spare refrigerator. I never cut off bone til a day or so pass. I’m not crazy about the bugs all over the deer when trying to skin either so the quicker the better. Ive got a new piece I’m gonna hunt this weekend but like you I’m buck hunting now.

  29. Nothing yet. But I have auto feeder set to drop 35lbs at 720am. My cameras show that they show up beforehand usually, so things should get good soon. Edit - wrong forum. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  31. Ok well he’s official now!!! I’m giving him the morning off from school to go hunt with me in the morning. His clothes are in the dryer now and he’s taking a scent free (or so called) shower. He’s pretty excited and we’re sitting on an oak bench, one of my favorite spots. He’s super excited so will see what happens!

  32. I've heard both ways, that a full moon positively/negatively affects deer daytime activity. My uncle used to say that a full moon hurt day movement because they would be out later at night because they could see better. I don't know that it made any difference. He would also say "Look at the cows, if they are up and moving, the deer are too". Again, whether or not there's truth to this or not, I don't know, but if I drive by cows on my way to hunt, I always pay attention to whether they are up or not

  33. One lone doe walking right on top of my tracks from this morning. She turned away and passed by me at forty yards thru some thick brush. Nice morning but swirling wind is frustrating.

  37. My 7 year old was shaking so bad in pa youth rifle last year he couldn't shoot. the deer was looking at us cause the gun was bouncing off the blind window lol. I personally shake after the shot, like an adrenaline dump. There is no better feeling than that.

  38. Only thing that would make that video better is if he walked over to the tree to set his gun down and got scooped up in one of those net traps! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  39. I commend you in knowing your limitations, and not wanting to wound a deer. That is how a hunter and sportsman should be when considering their options. Always take the game we hunt under consideration first. Not our ego's. I too have bad shoulders, and just take every season like it will be my last. I shoot just one arrow, and rest for a few minutes before shooting another one. I concentrate on making that first shot a good one. Just as if I were hunting. But cannot hold full draw very long at all. But I'm doing well in making that first shot. And when I can't or become unable to draw my bow, it will be time to stop bow hunting. That said, I have no problem using a crossbow to stay in the woods! That is all I need, to just be in the woods!!! Killing a deer is just a bonus at this point after over 40 years with a bow. No a crossbow is not a vertical bow. But it is legal, and fun to shoot. And for me, choosing to hunt with a crossbow, or not hunting at all, is a no brainer. Wish you better health, and best of luck when you do get to hunt.
