  1. Well my freezer is being restocked after a tumultuous wait and track. In my 3S tree by 4 and at 5:00 on the nose I see movement. By 5:03 she is where I need her to be (I almost called my shot with this pic but she was actually in the hole to the right!) I release a shot that is higher than I like and maybe a touch back - I swore she was more quartering to by the entertainment and exit are not all to angled from each other. Wait 45 minutes and check the arrow Find some decent bright blood and track for a bit (LIKE AN ASS!). Kicked her from her bed and then backed out. Came back at 10 with my partner and resume an absolute Epic track. I wish I had a go-pro or even a working phone(mama crappy was at sprint all night replacing my busted one- she’s good!). Hands and knees through tall grass up and over briars on trace blood and tracks. Partner finds blood and thinks it turned back. I kept going on a run a squirrel would need to squeeze down. Find more blood. Bust through the vegetation above like we are whack a moles and see two bucks in our flashlights about 100 yards further towards a “clearing” or at least clearer brush and figure we would just head their way and walk the road back as the sign was gone and it was midnight. We are deep in the Shat and ain’t walking back. Get to where the bucks were and there are runs everywhere. We split up and start poking around and I catch eye shine in some thick nastiness and there she lay. While I am disappointed in my shot, I am unbelievably thankful and proud of the track we pulled off. The find was a bit serendipitous but we earned it for sure. Quartered and hung by 1:45. And oooppsss...probably should have put this in the Harvest thread. My bad! While I’m at it...cell cams rock! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. I sat for 12 hrs today. I didn't see anything until just before 5pm when 3 doe came in and ate around under my stand for 5 minutes. I shot her at 9yrds. She piled up 50yrds behind my stand.

  3. Some Yogi pics, there were 4 if them in the next hickory over. One was a good 20 feet up. Sound of 4 crunching hickory nuts was impressive. First is right before she tried to climb my tree!

  4. It was a great opening day for me. I saw 5 does and fawns this AM. Decided to go out close to home tonight to a spot I haven't scouted or ran any cameras at all this year. I knew there is a lot of oaks in there and should be dropping. I went in and found a good tree and climbed up. It was slow except for raccoons eating acorns all afternoon. An hour before dark I had a small 5 point come in behind me, followed by a young 8 point. They feed around at 10-30yds for half an hour then they both go on alert and are looking to where they came from. 5 minutes later I see another buck coming, noticeably larger. He came up and stopped at 12yds and I sent a Spitfire through his lungs, he made it 50 yds. I'm happy to have him but hunting through November without a buck tag will feel odd! 5. Shot this last evening and had to let her lay until this morning. The shot wasn’t the greatest, so I back out. She was laying 50 yards from where I saw run to. Meet the freezer for team 4. Enjoying God’ s great outdoors.

  6. 10/1 Kunox is on the board! We were called tonight to track a doe that had been shot this evening. The hunter was sure he had made a good shot, and even thought he heard her crash. He had tracked her 60 yards before losing blood. He made one loop through the area, then backed out and called me. Nice job by not grid searching everywhere! Kunox tracked to last blood (which was marked with a lit lumenock) and picked a line and off we went. After a few hundred yards I wasn’t convinced he was on it, so back we went. This time he followed where the hunter had walked when he made his loop. We ended up restarting and Kunox ended up showing us the deer had made two small loops and dove under some downed trees, only 50 yards from last blood. It took a little time, but Kunox figured it out. Good boy!

  9. This nice 3.5 year old came out into the field a little after 6:00 yesterday evening. I tried to tickle my rattling antlers together a little bit to try to entice him in but he didn't like it at all. Guess there are too many bucks there that are above him in the pecking order. I'm going to try to cut him off with my climber after work this afternoon. Sent from my SM-S767VL using Tapatalk

  12. I guess ill start this off. Sat in my usual stand, call it the swamp stand. This doe makes 6 deer in 6 years ive taken from this stand, 3 bucks 3 does. About 820ish i caught a glimpse of legs goin through a thick area. Probably 830 a doe pops out 40 yards to my slight left. Shes all alone from what i can see, starts feeding to a trail 22 yards from me. Walks out onto the path facing dead on with me. I havent drawn yeat and waiting for the right time. She reachs her head back to lick her back and i draw, her head comes around and she takes 1 step. So now shes quartering towards me and looking at me. I settle my pin on the top of her lead shoulder and shoot. My lumenock shows i hit were i was aiming. I know alot of people wont take this shot and i understand. Im comfortable with it. She spun around at takes off. I settle down at sit back for 20 minutes, then climb down and head to the house. I get a drink and eat a little something, drop a layer and head back in. I get back to were i shot her probably a hour after the shot, i pick up on her tracks and find blood and bloody corn. I know the arrow exited through the guts. Im confident i got 1 lung and alot of extras. At this point i go back to my house, to get my dog. I worked with him alot last year with tracking. I wanted to see if he still remembered what to do on his walk.I know u cant track deer unlicensed in ny. I was just taking my dog for a walk on my property. We followed blood and got past were i had stopped. He kept goin, got hung up for a min then back to walkin. Would you believe he walked right up on that dead deer! She made it 150 yards and piled up. We ran out of venison a month ago so very happy to put more in the freezer. On to buck hunting!

  16. 10/2 Track #1 HEAVY rain throughout this track. Hunter shot a doe last night, believing he hit her high. The arrow was never recovered. We tracked past where he had marked blood last night, but of course it had been washed away. Luna ended up tracking the doe .84 miles until we had a property line issue and had to call it. It appeared she had never bedded. We jumped a deer near the property line, but don’t know if it was her or not. #2 A 68 year old hunter shot his first bow buck last night. We were on the way back from the first track which had been 65 miles away, so rather than drive home to swap dogs, I saved the time and miles and Luna got the call. . She didn’t seem to mind. The hunter and his son tracked this buck for a couple hundred yards last night, wisely backing out without grid searching when blood became hard to find. Luna never wavered on this track. She took us .46 miles in a big circle, to a beautiful, big 8 pointer. He had come right back to within 75 yards of the stand he was shot out of. The buck had been gutshot, and luckily hadn’t been pushed into the next county. The hunter could not praise Luna enough, saying he was going to buy her a big juicy steak. #3 This track was only 4 miles from the second, so Luna lucked out with three in a row. The hunter shot this 8 pointer last night, and knew immediately he had made a poor shot. The arrow struck the shoulder, only penetrating a few inches. He and a buddy waited a couple hours and then tracked approximately 400 yards, marking blood as they went. He and his father went back this morning and advanced the track a short distance. Luna made short work of the 400 yards, but despite repeated restarts, circles, etc. we did not advance it. Based on the shot description, this buck is most likely still around. #4 Darn it, another high shoulder shot. This one was at 0700 this morning. The 8 pointer fell down when shot, then jumped up and ran away. The buck ran toward the nearby neighboring property line, so the hunter followed the sparse blood trail only 50 yards before backing out. The neighbor joined us on the track. As suspected, Kunox took us to the neighboring property. We went 3/4 of a mile seeing very little blood along the way. At this point, Kunox went hot, indicating a live deer which we never saw. I found a bed, but there was no blood in it. Kunox was pulling hard, and 50 yards away we found one drop of blood. Based on the shot description, distance traveled, and so little blood loss, the track was called.

Ill post up pictures of my setup later as ive gotten a new scope, ir light, tripod and caller for this year. 22. If we take a moment, and reflect on all the input on this thread, with an unbiased opinion..... No member has said it's not ethical or not fair chase. We continue to post how we all agree with that in different ways. This thread is proof that we all have different moral compasses but they all show the same true north. To me, this is a win for the forum once you cut through it all! Lots of great morals out there, different as they may be ! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  28. Some of us are just an enigma. Sometimes I hunt with a stickbow and other times I use a thermal scanner and scope (not deer). I like cell cams but have never killed a deer I could attribute to cam pics directly other than knowing a deer is in the area. All in all, who really cares.

  29. Jut got back from a morning sit in the ladder stand until the wind got pretty busy. Scouted for an hour or so after just to check on activity. Found a couple of pre-rut scrapes along the edge of a cornfield behind me. Rubs are not popping up yet but I was able to find one decent one. I think we have a ways to go yet in this area. Nice to be out and get the first sit out of the way. Plan on scouting some state land I normally hunt over the weekend. Good luck to anyone going out and congrats to all the harvests all ready. NICE BUCK CHRIS

  31. Even a mechanical that doesn't open and lands where it should is going to kill a deer, albeit maybe slower and a longer track. I'd bet 70% of deer taken during archery season are taken with mechanicals. I shoot an average of 3 deer a year for the last 15 years with mechanicals and have never had a failure, ever. If you choose to shoot a fixed head then do that, but don't bash mechanicals because of it. My Spitfires never let me down. As evidenced again last night, 3.5 yr old buck, exit through the offside shoulder. Down in 45yds with a path of blood. If you had one bad Taco in your life are you going to stop eating Tacos and publicly bash them? Doubt it. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  33. I’ve said many times ethics is decided between you and the person you see in the mirror. A guy I know that does a lot of tracking in the ADK’s has killed bucks the last few years that he got a picture of on his phone from his cell camera. Gets a pic in the night, goes to cam, picks up track and kills said deer. Is it cheating? Nope. Is it a huge advantage? Yup. Is it something I would do? Nope. For a stand hunter I don’t see where the big advantage is for help during a hunt. Not many people are going to get a pic and climb down and try to make a move on the deer. 40. I can honestly say I did not purchase a cell cam to get a text of a buck and drive 2 hrs to my lease to kill it. I got it so I don’t ever have to funk up the woods by checking cards . And i would love a drone to fly over the swamps to see where the ducks are hiding . But then again I don’t like to shoot hens and others don’t care. Bottom line I guess my ethics are screwed up but I mean well.

  45. I’ve been in the stand since 6:30am. I was able to get the umbrella up just in time before the rain came. It was steady for about 30-45 min but has since stopped. Now it’s just the constant dripping from the trees. I’ve seen 3 doe all 80ish yards away at three separate times. The trail camera is showing some nice bucks moving around in the light but mostly from 3pm on. I’ll hunt until around 11 then go run some errands before sitting in the same spot for the evening. 49. Nice congrats! I took a doe with a longbow this morning but never took a pic. It was a little warm and I was hustling to quarter it and stick in a spare refrigerator. I never cut off bone til a day or so pass. I’m not crazy about the bugs all over the deer when trying to skin either so the quicker the better. Ive got a new piece I’m gonna hunt this weekend but like you I’m buck hunting now.
