  1. It’s nice when they fall a few yards from the stand. First ever deer hunt in NY, found a good tree after a 5 minute walk in. Farmer manured the field around 5:00, and 3 does came in. After about 20 minutes of making their way through the hay field, got a good 25 yard shot, and this big girl piled up about 20 yards from my tree. Ive got enough meat to last a while now, so I can enjoy the rest of October with my wife and daughter, and hit it again with the new muzzleloader for gun season.

  2. Not the biggest guy but he'll start to fill the freezer. Can't hunt to much this year so I couldn't be picky

  3. Well the sticker 12 point got a rage in cage this morning. Brother in law got another for the wall. He is one of the deer from my nightly buck parade thread. Shot was far back but we found him dead in his bed. He is bigger than we initially thought. He weighed 217.5 lbs on my butchers certified scale. We rough taped him at around 153ish. Unfortunately the sticker in the velvet pictures is broke off. Now i just need the time to get some hunts in!

  6. We got a doe yesterday. That's the exit wound. It was a broadside shot. Not sure how the arrow came out that far back. Ran 60 yards. I am not the good looking one in the picture.

  9. The Hunting Gods were kind again yesterday evening.I asked for the JetSled last Christmas and my wonderful kids gave it to me. I thought it was great hauling the doe to my truck ! I did put one of those padded large carabiners on the rope to save my hand from rope burn.Flat ground and a logging trail so not sure how this would be pulling uphill. Happy to have the venison. Good luck everyone and stay safe.(Sorry for the crappy picture).

  11. Saturday afternoon sit had a guy hunting in climber 20 yards from tree I'd been in the past couple days and that morning. He thought he was still on neighbors land. I explained borders and he said he'd let others know as well. I was headed a 100 yards away to an adjacent field so I said I'd leave him be and keep going to where I was headed. Told him the tree he picked wasnt the best and all deer I've seen came from neighbors where he had permission. Later he shot into one of two small bucks. One of them a spike went past me. Stopped 20 yards out but didnt look hit so I let it go. Half hour later I had doe and doe fawn come out at just over 20 yrds. Put an original Rage through last couple ribs before the diaphragm and out the far side shoulder. She bled like crazy and made it a short distance. The guy that shot the little buck I dont think recovered it but not sure. I saw him driving off the neighbors before I left. Non hero shots in the field sorry. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  13. What an awesome end of the day! 35 minutes left and down the adjacent side of the bean field, I watched a bruiser come out in the field.. hanging close the the wood line. It looked apparent he was just gonna hang right there so I let out a few grunts and up goes his head! Nothing but horns on this guy.. he's a big boy. He starts walking straight to me stops at 80 or so. I let him mill around for a little bit and grunted again. Up goes his head again looking right at me... I'm brushed in really well and he can't find me. Now he moves in to 60 and is hanging out feeding, keeps looking in my direction... Then I notice there's another bruiser right where this one came out... One more grunt and I get this guy in to 50 and he is looking real hard for me... Another little grunt but he just won't get any closer. I need him at 30 but he was having nothing to do with it. Meanwhile, shooting light expires but I stayed and watched him rejoin his big buddy back at 100 or so. I took a long walk back so I didn't spook them... Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  15. Hockey is right, it really isn't that difficult to process your own, it just seems daunting if you've never done it. Most cuts are quite basic. Separate muscle groups, cut across the grain of the meat. Odds and ends pieces go to grind. Or grind the whole deer if that's your thing! I can't begin to tell you how much money I've saved doing my own, thousands! And it's a labor of love for me, brings the hunt full circle. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  16. Jr and I tucked in the ground house for the pm. Already have a pile of deer in the field, hoping one will make it's way to bow range as I'm under strict orders to SEND IT. Flock of turkeys cruised through, poults were very vocal. My son was loving it. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  17. This morning started out hectic with a long walk to the spot I wanted to hunt and was the first time hunting out of my saddle. I got situated about 12 feet up in a very skinny maple tree probably 6” in diameter . I had great wind as long as nothing came from behind me . Wouldn’t ya know I noticed some deer crossing train tracks behind me and worked their way to my side. Doe came about into a clover plot that didn’t take for us this year but she was still eating the premature plant. She walked right towards me and I knew I would get to attempts to draw on her if she doesn’t bust me only being 12 feet in air. She presented herself with a 10 yard shot slightly quarter to. I released the arrow and she jumped for a second then walked about 20 yards. Then she just stood there and didn’t move. I thought to myself did I miss that shot. She walked off slowly but I couldn’t see any blood coming out of her . After a bit I got down and had to find my arrow. Covered in blood and that was my first relief. After waiting another hour I started to look for blood trail. Tracks and Jeremy K came back to meet me and start tracking . She walked about 60 yards and found her . My arrow hit a little high and a little back . Regret putting my 20 yard pin on her but got lucky I guess. Not a giant doe but my first deer hunting out of a saddle so that was cool.

  19. Doe down to refill the freezer. Crazy morn in the woods, it felt like mid season. Got in the mosh pit stand in 6S before light. A little before 8 I hear walking here come two does walking right at me. I draw on the first and bigger one and she comes to my stand straight in at like 4 yards. I have to let down and turn as she goes by and no she is walking straight away . Finally she turns at 25 and I send it. Think it's a good hit as she takes off. Give it 15 minutes and get down. Find arrow and blood on it up 12" about 10 yards away. And a blood trail. Decide to get back in stand and give it a 1/2 hour. Just get sat back down and three more doe come in they get to within 38 . Thought about it but unless it's a layup better just worry out the one I got. They walk away then come trotting back looking over their shoulders. I get ready and I hear grunt grunt grunt phhhh. There is buck behind them somewhere. They keep looking back in the woods then come out in the field. I have a perfect 30 yard on a big doe but I hold off cause of the buck. Well he never came out. 10 minutes later 4 more different doe come thru and skirt me at 40 in the brush. Finally after they are gone for 15 minutes. I have to go look for my deer. Start following blood and can tell it's a definite lung hit cause it's spraying. After a few find her laying in the middle of the horse field about 120 away. Yes!!!! Hit her double lung and then hit outside shoulder. She had been laying there prob after 2 minutes. Decent sized doe and it didn't have any fawns so it is a freezer filler. Earliest I've even filled a tag. Great start to the season. And a great day in the woods. Thank you everyone for all the rooting for me! And pic of bloodying up the new truck! Lol.

  20. It was a great opening day for me. I saw 5 does and fawns this AM. Decided to go out close to home tonight to a spot I haven't scouted or ran any cameras at all this year. I knew there is a lot of oaks in there and should be dropping. I went in and found a good tree and climbed up. It was slow except for raccoons eating acorns all afternoon. An hour before dark I had a small 5 point come in behind me, followed by a young 8 point. They feed around at 10-30yds for half an hour then they both go on alert and are looking to where they came from. 5 minutes later I see another buck coming, noticeably larger. He came up and stopped at 12yds and I sent a Spitfire through his lungs, he made it 50 yds. I'm happy to have him but hunting through November without a buck tag will feel odd! 21. I usually take an early doe just because I am trigger happy at this point. Then I wait on a buck. Won't shoot a doe once the real pre-rut starts in late October until a buck is down. If I hunted an area with low numbers, I would probably not shoot a doe early however.

  24. I climbed into a branchy poplar yesterday afternoon at the edge of a field overlooking some apple trees. It was a funky tree to be in but had the most cover. I thought the spot looked amazing but nothing showed. I guess next time i will push further in,this was my first hunt at that new property i get to hunt this year.

  25. Watch YouTube, you don’t need a butcher. It’s very easy. Many places will take boneless meat and make you sausage or wheat ever also.

  29. Live from my work from home desk- Anyway, got permission to hunt a private land spot in 3S (bow only, Westchester) yesterday. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic. It's not Jerkman's honeyhole, but it holds deer.

  33. Bill. Be pleased that there was plenty of poults and they looked very healthy. We had some action ! Great night in the blind. Had a doe w/2 fawns come in. I was ready to send it, till she turns towards us and literally came too close to shoot. Also saw a good buck on the opposite side of the field. He barely moved the whole time so we snuck out of there without disturbing his bean eating. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  37. First let me say the Doe population in my area is gigantic so there is no chance of hurting the herd and the ability to bring a buck in. I will take a Doe anytime anywhere, I hunt for the meat primarily so that is my number one objective. I also have a single bow kill so my thought may not matter much.

  38. Out for sit #2 this morning. Finger is still a bit stiff but I'm able to use my release fine so I figured no reason to sit on the couch. Cozied into some brush just before first light and sat until 9:30. One smaller doe went through at around 40 yards and I wasn't comfortable taking a shot so she got a pass. CONGRATS to all who filled a tag already.

  42. Just had a huge deer...well... Deere in the field in front of me. I asked my farmer friend if I should avoid anywhere today, and he said no, whole place is open. At least I don’t have to worry about getting winded now Whew, definitely changed the olfactory game for the day.
