  2. Buck down! Daughter waited for legal light and dropped this guy at the first minute! 8 point from the tower at 110 yards. She’s off to a fast start! I’m the camp cook this morning, but looks like I’m getting out shortly! Breakfast with Evie - skull shaped eggs!

  3. Congrats to all who scored today..I wasn't even gonna go today,i am behind at work and thought i would catch up. My neighbor texted me last night and said you gotta go on opening day. Well,i woke up early so figured i would give it a few hrs. I had to get all my muzzleloader stuff together and find the orange vest and hat. My plan was to sit by a swamp, but i decided to take the long way round on my way there to check for vehicles, see who else was around. I saw a group of doe heading from low ground to high. A little further down the road a nice buck crossed, also going from low to high ground. So i switched my plan and went to a point on a north south ridge. I got in in the dark and once it got light i saw it wasn't quite the spot i wanted. I moved slowly closer to the point and stood there for a while. I was debating dropping to a lower bench on the leeward side of the ridge but then i wouldn't be able to see the top. Right then this guy pops up onto the top, nose to the ground..I was downwind and had plenty of time to rest my gun on a tree and pick a spot. He stopped briefly and i shot. I thought I saw him mule kick through the smoke and he took off. I lost sight of him but thought he crashed. I gave it some time and then followed the trail. He was bigger than i thought,rack-wise. By far the biggest racked buck i have gotten, but i think he is only 2.5 years old. What do you guys think? 18.5" spread,i am in 4F.

  5. BBD! I coulda reached out and touched him he was so close running by. Go figure been trying to get bucks his size to come in during archery and today with a rifle he comes by at 5 yards max. Almost shot the doe he was chasing too. She stopped and gave me a shot but she was a bit small to fill the tag. Congrats to all the other guys and girls getting it done today. 12. Early morning shot the 8pt and early afternoon with the BB. I could have sworn it was a doe because right behind him was a 4 pt that looked at if it was in tow to the BB. Was really hoping for a little “Romeo and Juliet” kinda thing for these two but I’m blessed either way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. I know this deer is not very big but I dropped it because the farmer and his wife that allow me to hunt their property love venison and I haven't been able to provide them with any in a couple of years. Some interesting things about this deer/hunt. When I was coming in at about 5-45am I bumped about 4 deer out of a field. This deer was the first I had seen since then, the first deer sighted during daylight. The photo of the deer walking is the deer I shot. He walked right past one of my trail cams and I shot him literally 1 minute later. I had my Tactacam and GoPro all set up to try to get the whole thing on video. It was about 10:12am and I had just poured a coffee and taken a bite out of a chicken sandwich my wife was so gracious to pack for me. I caught something out the corner of my left eye and there he was about 40 yards from me. He was just "there". I had no time to think, I shot him when he was looking right at me, a second more and he would have seen me or got my wind as I was on the ground. I literally dropped the sandwich put him in my sights and squeezed. I didn't have time to activate either camera for fear he would see me with the extra motion. Anyhow I am grateful to be able to harvest a buck and provide the landowners with venison for the winter.

  16. Good luck this morning everyone! I’m staying back with our 3 yr old granddaughter so wife and daughter can get out this morning. Wife is staying back later so daughter and I will be out for the afternoon shift. Whipping up a big breakfast shortly. Got the great news last night that we’ll have an extra for deer season next year - daughter is pregnant! This will be their second child, and our 5th grandchild. Over the moon! 2020 has a silver lining for us after all. Now we need to cap it off with bucks!

  18. Out for the afternoon with my crew......but earlier this morning I walked out around 10:30 and on my way home got a text that my buddies son and my Dad both took shots. My buddies sons doe dropped on the stop.....my Dad's donkey decided to take a little adventure. After a short search they found that she circled back around and died in a ditch. Think he’s freshening up big scrape line and goes back to hiding behind houses and away from street. 21. Back in for the evening. The deer i got this a.m. 1 turned out to be a button buck. Not to thrilled about that. 4 came in i picked the biggest and shot, she ran maybe 30 yards and piled into a tree and dropped. The other 3 scattered for a second, i started looking at each of them. This guy came in and i even said to my son, looks like a nice doe...shot it, it does a backflip and is dead. The other walked passed after this and 1 was a mature doe and 1 was definitely a fawn. Pissed at myself but nothing to do now but eat it i guess lol. Tight squeeze for the 2 it the bucket, the doe was pretty big.

  25. 11/20 #1 A young hunter took a shot at a nice buck and was sure he hit it, but couldn’t find any hair or blood. Kunox and I arrived 24 hours later and 230 yards away he showed us a pin drop of blood. That was the only sign of that deer we found in our 2 mile search. I have no idea how hard, or where that deer was hit. #2 I was sorry I took this track after I arrived. It was 31 hours old, 20 mph wind was blowing the dry leaves through the woods and 4 guys had grid searched for 2 hours. The deer had been shot in the shoulder with a crossbow as it quartered to, and the bolt had broken off with 12” of penetration. We got absolutely nowhere on this one. #3 The hunter shot this buck at 7:30 this morning. He waited half an hour after the shot to go look for sign, then found some whiteish hair and blood. As he was looking the area over, he saw the deer run off a short distance away. He immediately backed out. Kunox and I arrived at 3:30 and he quickly got locked onto the scent, but it took sometime for him to figure out which trail the deer had used, most likely due to the windy conditions. It’s so much fun to watch him doing his checks. Once he found the trail, he led us to the buck who was still alive 200 yards away. I took a shot at him as he got up and started to run off. He left the woods and ran 400 yards across a field and expired just inside a wood line.

  26. Well apparently I hung my stand in July in the same spot that an older gentleman had, "been hunting for 35 years". Not the land owner btw. I get there early af, quiet af, scent moved af. He stomps up after daylight with his chair hanging and banging from his side. I whistle and wave to get his attention. I thought he hunted the other side of my family members property, that's why I put the stand there. I try to talk to him but he can't hear me so he yells more lol and eventually was nice but geez, man every year this guy f's me on opening day! He's said he got up early for nothing. I guess not early enough lol! Only saw two doe and a fawn and then him wandering all over the place till I left. I hate gun season! Can't wait till late now but by then they've blown the whole place completely out into a dead zone. How many days till October first? Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

  27. I forgot the exact location of my swamp edge hang on stand. The woods were loaded with downed timber from the heavy winds last week, blocking most of the trails. It took me an extra 15 minutes, bumbling around in the dark to locate my stand. I finally found it, by locating the energetic nieghbor's line of posted signs (he posts about every 25 ft). My stand is 50 ft from his corner marker. I wanted to be up in it 45 minutes before light, but I cut it a little closer and it was already starting to get light. I heard 20 shots before dawn, and did not see my first deer until 10, when a doe and fawn passed at 50 yards, not giving me a clean shot. This busted up the 6-point came thru on their trail, 10 minutes later. I let him pass, because I could only see 2 points, but for the heck of it, I gave a few grunts and he turned and came right towards me. I saw he had three on the other side, making my cut, so he got a slug in the "shirt pocket", at 40 yards. After pocketing the slug, he ran 100 yards into the deepest part of the swamp before splashing down, making for a wet recovery. Now, he is hanging and I am drying out, thinking about heading back out to look for an antletless deer.

  39. Im in my tower in 3K, 40 degrees, zero shots heard so far. Decided on my old Marlin 30-30 that my dad gave me. I like the older rifles, makes it feel like rifle season with the rifles that have patina from being used in the woods. Good luck
