  5. Got a later start than I wanted due to deer hunting and it has been tough with the changing conditions to keep things working. I had my doubts whether the traps would even fire with the snow, rain, freeze & thaw, etc. I have only had four sets out with hopes of expanding after deer season weather permitting. I was hoping if anything I would get some coyotes but this little red female showed up this morning. She is free again and hopefully won't come back. I hope to do some remakes and put a few more sets out in the upcoming days now that deer season is over. Hope the weather cooperates a little bit. I don't really care for trapping in the snow and or mud.

  6. Well as I'm sure for many it was a messed up year for me. I got laid off in late July, plant had awful financials so we all got kicked. I had all of archery season off, filled my buck tag the first night, completely unexpectedly. Which was awesome but also a bit sad as I could literally hunt every day. I killed a doe on the 7th, then got pretty unmotivated and focused on some fishing, chores, being lazy etc... Applied to some jobs as it seemed that getting called back wasn't looking promising after months off (they were trying to secure additional investor capital). Got lucky in November and got hired into a lead manufacturing position with the prospect of taking a supervisor position when one became available. Really close to home so that was cool. I missed the first 10 days of gun season for an out of state family visit then started my orientation 2 days after I returned. I only got out about 4 times with gun, I've only seen one deer in those 4 hunts, a small buck I passed up on a drive because I wasn't positive if there was a driver not far behind the buck or not. Bad timing was the name of the game for me in those few hunts, I'd hunt all morning in one spot and come home and get a picture of a nice buck or does after I left, or chose a different stand only to get pictures from a neighboring stand. So all in all I did not hunt much at all between my new job and family obligations. Our lease did not have as much big buck activity as the previous year, not sure why? I would've killed a great wide 9pt the first week of November had I not already killed my opener buck, as he came by my stand 4 mornings in a row. I'm hoping that my year is turning around as of today, I had a meeting this morning before I left work and was offered a supervisor position, for an additional $25k a year. So hopefully all of the bad luck on losing my job was a blessing in disguise after all. Here's to hoping that next year is more stable and I can get back in the woods and water like usual. I'm buying a nice boat in the spring also, hopefully everyone else can find some light at the end of the tunnel of 2020 as I have. Some great deer taken again by you guys as usual, we'll do it all again next year, God willing! Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk

  10. Out for a bit this morning with my brothers then off to cut some ash trees for our rink light poles. Good luck! (last year a deer ran across our rink and punctured our liner...hopefully we put a dent in our herd to prevent another ruptured liner!)

  11. It's tradition for me to hunt at least a few hours on the last day. Hunting a local spot this morning. Had a doe under my stand on the way in she didn't slowly trotted off maybe she'll come back early so i can get out of this rain lol

  12. This was the most time I have spent in the woods in years. As many of you know and have seen from my posts I have 4 and 6 year old boys and have truly soaked in every moment of covid laced 2020 with them. Being home alot I have been able to get to the woods for the last few hours and with next to nothing else to do we have made it a point to be outside a ton. Although alot of hunters measure success in inches of bone.... this season was by far my least successful seeing mature shooters. Even though there were plenty of shooters on cam and a buck was taken off the lease in the high 130's(#2 shooter on the property) I have to say this was the best season of my life. Both my boys were with me the Sunday of opening weekend that we harvested a doe. They were there for it all....and to be honest it was a really crappy first time experience when it came to recovery. We shot the doe right near the end of legal time and of course she didn't flop right over and took off like a bat out of hell through the vineyard we hunt. Well after backing out and getting flashlights and an extra set of eyes we went back out in the cold crappy rain and began the track. These guys were dialed in from the get go and my buddy and I weren't giving up without them finding this deer. Well low and behold an hour and a half later we found her piled up in the grapes...stiff as a board. She went on a death run after the shot and the rain really killed the blood trail but these boys never gave up. Wish I would of had a proper setup to process cause I know they would have been in for it all! Don c I know exactly what you mean when you talk about measuring success with being around others....I rarely hunt solo and will take my noisey, snack eating, question asking boys with me everytime even if it doesn't mean seeing a single deer. The success in this sport to me is measured in many ways....and I couldn't have been a more successful man this season! Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk

  18. With all of the chaos and craziness of 2020, we have been hearing a lot of negative crap about everything. Well, I for one, am really thankful for quite a few things this year and dare to say my life is better in many ways because if all of this nonsense. For one, I learned I can work from home and be even more productive, more creative, work more hours and have nearly all of the stress of my job removed. Even better is that my company recognizes this as a trend in all departments, globally, and is now embracing the new work model for long term implementation. I will be leaving NYS if this happens! Fiscal responsibility. I took a significant pay cut in March when the shutdown started, I learned I can not only live on less, but save more on less! That being said, I am really looking forward to my salary going back to normal January 1st. Family. Working from home allowed my wife and me to become care providers for our granddaughter while our daughter in law started a new business. I have been so lucky to have the opportunity to spend two days a week with her and watch her grow, learn to walk, learn to speak, and so much more that I would have never experienced. Zoom meeting with her on my lap have become the norm and even my coworkers in Liechtenstein, Germany and Switzerland look forward to her weekly input. Even if it’s a drink or toy being thrown at the screen when she hears her name with a German accent, or another child or dog chiming in unexpectedly. Great times and memories that would never have happened in a normal year. Motorcycles. Oooh yeah, Fatboy_D may be back! I spent many hours and hundreds of miles on one of my friends 2020 CVO Street Glides this summer (he bought 2 when he heard HD was stopping production in the spring, one for each of his kids and a CVO ultra classic for himself, don’t ask, he is in a different world than ALL of us...) and am now looking at getting back into riding. Wife is excited about it so it’s probably a done deal. Hunting. Working from home and a flexible schedule allowed me to spend as much time as I wanted in the woods this year. ‘Nuff said about that.... These and so much more GOOD came out of this year. How about you? What good did you discover during this crazy time? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. When I got home from hunting today I told my wife that I put in a lot of long hours in the tree stand this year to provide food for the family. I don't sit in a tree all weekend long for myself I do it for her. Lol

  20. It would be difficult for me not to say I had a great season, but as happy and grateful that I am for the two beautiful bucks I took, I was alone while doing it. Both of my boys had pivotal years in their careers and new father responsibilities that took priority and both were virtually unable to hunt, but a few days each. I am so proud and excited for them, but it was a bit sad being out there, for the most part, alone. In fact, the 15 minutes when Tacks stopped by the lease to pick up ammo he has absolutely no use for was the social highlight of my season! Do you want your beer back!! Lol! I did see a lot of deer during bow season, mostly young bucks that provided shot opportunities nearly every sit. The endless stream of trail cam pics of 5 shooters on the property kept me coming back and the excitement high. I had no interest in shooting does, which was all I saw for the first two weeks of rifle, and not very many, but I was confident in the stand location and ultimately rewarded with one of those does finally being dogged by a big buck in December. Even better was my wife of 33 years being as excited as I about putting TWO new mounts on the wall this year! All in all a great season accented by a stiff reminder of how important doing all of this with the ones we care about really is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. No internet all weekend, so I'm just getting caught up. Sorry I missed the hunt at Greg's but with all this Covid crap I didn't want to chance it. So I hunted Angelica with a friend just 2 of us doing small 2 man drives. Saw a nice sized doe bedded so I put a stalk on, as I was trying to get close I see her standing and looking right at me. So I put the scope on her and fire. Well somehow she magically transformed into a bb! Sorry Wolc but the land oysters stayed in the gut pile!

  22. Its been a long great season. I was targeting a big 8pt all of bow seasom. I shot a couple of doe with the bow and passed a bunch of smaller bucks waiting on the big boy that never showed. I took a doe at gman/ Greg's place with the rifle a week ago I took a big fat doe at local spot with the muzzle loader. Today I passed on 2 very tiny doe that had to weigh less than 40#s. At 130 I could see a large bodied deer in the thick stuff working it's way toward me I thought it was just a doe it stepped out at 30 yards and I realized it was a buck hile trying to decide if i was going to shoot it or not it came to 10 yards in front of me and started pawing up the winter rye. I decided I was taking this buck but for some reason I couldn't get the hammer to go back on my muzzle 4 or 5 tries and nothing now I'm thinking this might isn't meant to be. Lol I took the breech plug half out twisted it back in nothing. Tossed the primer to the ground popped in another one and he's still standing there. Cock the hammer back.and boom. Very successful season 4 doe and a 8pt.i was able to give a deer to my brother and grandmother.

  23. Way to go for all those who scored today and way to hang in there to the rest of us who put in one final effort. Great to come home to a roaring fire and a cold beer. Foothills Brewing out of Winston Salem, NC. Jade black IPA.

  24. One other interesting piece of data. According to the CDC, roughly 2.8million americans die each year total from anything and everything. In 2020, we right on that normal pace. Covid has "supposedly" killed 320,000 americans so far but yet the total deaths in america will remain the same. Seems odd. Will be curious to see which other types of deaths dropped lower to result in the same type of year. The first one that comes to mind is the flu.

  26. For me it’s the extremely short time in testing and the fact that the drug companies have been given a pass on responsibility for long term effects. I’ll take my chances with 99.9% survival rate. I’m pretty sure I had It early on, before tests were readily available. Had all of the typical symptoms and it was a month or so until I was Feeling normal again. Anyone else chooses to get it, that’s their choice, and not my concern.

  34. 2020 can go %#^@$ itself with a @&*!^%% sharp stick in the !&@^%# , !^%# and then take a !^@%$# into a dumpster and light it on !^##*$^@^ fire til it burns #%^@^#% to the ground. Whew......... that being said I was still working all the time, didnt lose anyone to Covid, had a good outdoor season with some great fishing and hunting times, got a new truck and boat. Downward side- I am losing my best hunting spot for next year but it certainly could have been worse, and was for many so i am thankful for how mine went.
