Took my son on a mission to get him his first steelhead on the fly. We succeeded. He brought both of these fish to the bank. Awesome afternoon and the kid walked a couple miles and never complained. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk20 points

Sometimes we take for granted the little things. Day 11 in the hospital for Ana. She is slowly improving. But was so excited when one of our members and his friend (and friend of a friend) made this happen today! Hoping that we all can be grateful for the moments and little things in 2021. Have a blessed 2021 my brothers and sisters.8 points

Been a while since i been here. Things have been crazy. I just got permission to hunt a spot on the extreme East end of the Island that is known for an over abundance of deer! Not many hunters, not many vehicles to take them out either and large pieces of private land. Not to mention I was asked to help out with a DMP for the same area. Gonna do some scouting tomorrow, then my first sit on Sunday. Totally stoked!!7 points

Scored again last night. This was a pipe dream set we mad in open field about 4 weeks ago. Relured it about 3 weeks ago and it finally got worked.6 points

Last Saturday we reset the entire line. Even though the wax dirt was keeping the traps working the melt and refreeze gave us a crust and we had tracks right on the pans of multiple sets. It was a full day dealing with the ice and we got 5 new set locations covered as well. Monday's check had a Red fox on a scent post in the open field at a crop change. I carried that log out there a couple weeks ago and it was frozen in solid so we reset the trap and added fox urine. On todays check we hit a double on coyotes. Both were dirt holes. Hoping we get some more movement tonight.5 points

Cam checks have been kind of boring post season, but interesting to see what survived season. Got pics of what appears to be a piebald. First time seeing this buck! Interesting that he and a spike appeared to be trailing a group of does that passed by 15min prior.4 points

The people’s farms that hold these big deer make as much as the hunter. Many places the find they have a 200inch deer in their property start getting in touch with the ‘Hunting Show’s’ and auction off to the highest bidder. I know of 2 that were actually hunted behind fence and bought by the shows to air the hunts by one of the big name hunters. Some of the shows like Lee and Tiff and maybe the Drurys can be tracked by their farms being seen on Tv over and over. But some of the others not so much.4 points

First is really a mainframe 10 with a couple extra inches from split brow and point on rt brow base. Use ears as about 6” to compare tine length and compare ears to rack for spread.. Like I said general guess but probably reasonably close. Also you can guess mass measurements by experience pretty close if you have measured a few. maybe Lomax will disclose and we can see if I was in the ballpark.3 points

I bought a new CanAM in 2013, and when I was looking I told myself I didn't need power steering. Let me tell you, it's awesome! It has 3 different levels of power steering and you can turn the bars with one finger. I love the CanAm wheelers, no issues with mine. It's a 500 V twin, and I've never "needed" more power. I even put oversize tires, huge lugs and steel wheels on it and it'll still do anything I want it to. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk3 points

It's a.self fulfilling prophecy. There is ammo shortage cause people are buying it as fast as it hits the shelves. The companies are "going along" cause sales are booming and they can't produce it fast enough. There are no restrictions on ammo sales by the govt. The reason we can't get ammo is the same reason there was a toilet paper shortage. Everyone is filling their carts with it . Must be the govt is also worried about being TP'd.3 points

Stan Potts....Nevah hoid of him....Of course I don't watch phony ass hunting shows much..... We had a local whitetail expert here in Dogpatch (RIP) He had over 40 BIG ( 130-160 inch) whitetails in his trophy room.... They are probably still there, since his widow is still alive....He claimed that he had killed all of them, but it is hard to keep secrets in a small town....Seems he had been traveling to new England and the midwest to purchase big whitetail racks and had been giving local taxidermists lots of business buying capes and getting mounts done with them....He just wanted everyone to think he was the world's greatest whitetail hunter... Sad part was that he was a very good hunter, and had taken a few of them himself...Perhaps 4 or 5 of the 40 he claimed to have taken...When it gets to that point, I think the antler mania is a sickness.....3 points

Wow! Looks like it came out great! I love it on dark bread with sauerkraut, spicy mustard, a thick slice of Swiss, and if you have it Russian salad dressing. Also good chopped up and made into breakfast hash. Oh, man I just saw a football roast today, I’m pulling it and making it this week!3 points

Thanks Moog as you know it takes a while to get them big like this. These aren’t even that big. You guys get some giants up and around Rochester. It all comes down to passing little bux And let them grow a bit till they’re more mature why we will never be Iowa it’s nice to see pockets where the herd can expand and grow a bit without being sniped.2 points

43 degrees in 3N with 18-20mph winds. I’m heading in around 245pm to check cams and do some predator calling. I got no fancy predator lights, so I’ll hunt with the shotgun until I can’t see anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro2 points

Things are not fine in Florida. I lost my younger brother recently, he didn't believe Covid was serious. I doubt he took any precautions. The rest of my family down there is isolating as much as they can now. There are people who do not, can not, or will not believe in science. (A survey of US citizens a couple decades ago said 1/3 of the population believed the Earth was 6000 years old.) That is just the way it it is apparently. As far as the vaccine is concerned everyone must evaluate apparent benefit vs apparent risk. I just wish more folks would consider that the benefit is not just to the individual receiving the vaccine, it also is to public health in general. I doubt that the government would mandate that all individuals must be vaccinated. But some employers, schools and colleges likely will.2 points

I'm not a fan of the emperor, but how is it wrong to restrict these initial doses of the vaccine to those who may benefit the most? Or our most vulnerable population? If you lower the number from 75 to 65, which is what you appear to be advocating, then demand exceeds supply, which you acknowledge. ??? Here, we have been prioritizing getting our front line health care workers who serve the most vulnerable populations vaccinated first, since that's where the vaccine is likely to do the most good, most quickly. I know that there has been lots of discretion given at the local level; I'm not as sure that this discretion has led to entirely wise choices. But nitpicking at this point is counterproductive. Nobody is going to be entirely satisfied at the rollout. Keep those doses coming!!2 points

Everything's for sale right now, I'm generating hunt funds for something epic. And I'm cleaning out all the buildings, too much 'stuff' anyway. Haven't run it in a spell, I think it needs more carb work. But I putter around the county park and a couple local ponds to fish. JK pm me if you want to inquire more about it.2 points

I have a 19.6. I fish with my 6yr old son a ton, so I'm launching and loading solo. If you have been around boats like you say, handling the boat solo won't be an issue. Extra space will be better than being cramped. I would guess that@Robhuntandfish would agree that there was plenty of room for trolling with 3 guys and@Pygmy can verify there was enough room for 4 trolling, even though I chose to sit on his lap.... The day we fished 4 with Pygmy we ran 8 leads on boards, 2 dipsys and 2 riggers so don't be fooled that a dual console can't be a trolling machine. We boxed out in an about 2 hours iirc. I don't hunt a specific deer per se. I do I guess but I'm not going to hold out exclusively for that deer. I'll run cameras all year and pick out the top 3 I'd like to kill and try to put myself on them, but if a roamer wanders into my arrow that looked good in the moment then that's great too. I had a couple picked out this year, then found myself sitting close to home on opening night on a piece I've hunted before but didn't scout or put any cameras in this year. It's really just a quick hunting spot. I saw 3 bucks that night and tagged the biggest. Wasn't even exactly sure what he was, saw a nice frame and decent length points so I let one fly. I'm not one to walk past a $20 bill and hope I find a $50. Not yet anyways. If I think it's 3.5+ then I'm probably shooting. Sent from my moto g(6) using Tapatalk2 points

Decided to sleep instead of wait up for new years so I can go out to a new spot I scouted last week. Got there on time decoys put out and set up about 30 min before shooting light. The bottom of the pond was kind of sticky and the pond was starting to get pretty iced over, but I saw birds there when I scouted so I was optimistic. about 10 min before shooting time, I was thinking it could be any minute I see or hear a duck. Maybe 5 seconds after I hear a quack and hear them landing. They were maybe 10 yards to the left of my decoys, but I didnt shoot. Not going to risk getting in trouble for a couple ducks, so I watched all 10 fly away after they figured it out. Just at shooting time I see a couple ducks start coming in to land to my left. I gave a couple quacks and the turned and came in. I took the first shot I had when they came over head. First shot folded the first bird, but I missed the other duck. Looked like the other was a mallard drake but I really dont know. The one I got was a Black duck drake, so maybe I was just seeing things. A little bit later I saw a couple ducks coming right in to my decoys from down the marsh and they landed perfectly in my decoys. Now I pulled up to shoot before they landed, my gun didnt fire. I must have flicked the magazine shut off, and I guess that stops me from shooting becuase all I heard was a click. The good thing was I never got up so I was still very hidden in the grass, and I was able to rack a new shell and take the shot. So By 6:50 I had my black duck limit for the day. I stayed till 8, but only had black ducks come in and no mallards. I have horrible luck with mallards for some odd reason, but I cant complain with the two ducks I got. All in all I must have seen about 20-30 black ducks for the morning. Considering going tomorrow too, but Im not sure just yet. My waterfowl goal next year is to get finally get a mallard.2 points

Well they say if a location is good enough for one trap it’s good enough for two. Set these in a field edge at a logging road entrance. Flat compass set in the background and a pipe dream set in the foreground. First double at a set we picked up.2 points

I think 17-18 ft is where you should focus, based on your usage description. For big water trolling, that size is just about right for 3 guys, perfect for 2, and not too big for 1. About 90 % of the time, I have 2. I prefer 3 for salmon trolling, so one can be on the fish, one on the steering wheel and one clearing rigs and netting. There is plenty of room for 3 on my wide 17 footer, and even 4 isn't too crowded. I am out alone about 5 % of the time, and usually only when I have a dock somewhere. I can launch and recover it myself, but I much prefer to have a helper for that. About 5 % of the time, I have 3 or 4 in the boat, but mostly just when trolling. The bulk of my time is spent drifting with 2 onboard, using the bow mount electric to control the drift, along with a drift sock, if it is real windy. Tossing a bucktail jig for smallmouth bass is my favorite technique. One thing you learn quick with a deep aluminum boat, is how to work with the wind. All that freeboard is great for keeping the waves out of the boat, but also makes a good sail, making it hard to control with an electric In high winds, my favorite technique is to deploy the drift sock from the bow, and drift over shoals. I seldom even lower the electric motor when the wind is much over 10 mph. Unless you are helbent on fighting the wind, it dont take much electric power to move a 17 ft aluminum boat. 28 pound thrust 12 volt works fine on mine. The light boat is also economical to push with your gas motor, or pull with your gas truck, compared to heavy fiberglass models. Gas was near record cheap last season, but I certainly dont expect that to continue thru the next 4 years. As far as interior layout goes, single side council, center council, and tiller steer are best left south of the Mason dixon line. If you want to fish outside of June thru August in NY, a dual council with full windshield is the only way to go.1 point

I honestly can’t complain about 2020. It was a weird year for sure! I’ve had COVID twice but no big deal either time, I’ve had hang overs that were much worse. I also made a little over $80,000 in OT from covid so it was more than worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Well it’s “done” Still need to “ramp” one side...we were 2 2x6 short. I recommended using stone as the base layer or at least some pressure treated but was overruled with the proverbial “it will be fine!” No trial run with the ATV but those cedar pines are beasts.
