  2. Me and my crew went out for our first time yesterday. Started at Thompson's Lake for the morning and finished at Collins park in Scotia. We didn't have any action. But people around us did land some nice bass at both spots. The boys had a great day,and I think we found a new hobby!! At Thompson's I met a nice gentleman who gave me an old 6" auger!!! It was given to him years ago and he doesn't need it anymore. We were thrilled, beats the shovel handle I brought to crack open an old hole. Can't wait to catch something!!

  3. I have everything I need for hunting. But this just seems like something fun to shoot. Course I would need more than $2000 for it cause I would prob have to move out of state to own it. .410 AR.

  4. Couldn't help myself I've wanted to shoot recurve for a little bit. Would be nice for hunting but just around the house to fling arrows would be nice. So I just purchased a samick sage 40#. It would be nice to be good enough to take it out this coming year but it's going to be a big learning curve. The bow shop I go through is going to help me get setup and arrows figured out. Either way it will be fun.

  5. Took my 2 boys out today. Weather was great but walking was a real workout. Snow is still deep here and there is a crust of ice on top of the snow which I broke through with each step. Dogs ran 5 bunnies but the runs were short as the bunnies were holing up due to the conditions. They did get to run 1 by me that I bagged. valoroutdoors.com

  9. Here are picture of my grandfather and some of his deer. I know the biggest buck was in 1948 because of the date on the picture but not sure of the others. All taken in Norwich and preston ny. 3rd picture down is the tree everyone hangs their first deer on and I did as well before he went to the garage. Along with my dad and every other hunter in the family.

  10. Daughter sends me this pic. It’s her makeup box in a spare bedroom , i called her and asked “ any curling irons or straightener on that table ? “ “ nope don’t own one . “ Told her leave everything in place and I’d be by in the morning , although I pretty much had it figured out already , just needed to confirm my suspicions. Walking up stairs I told her fiancé, “makeup mirror “ walked into the room and there it sat facing the box . See there’s no blinds or curtains in that room and we had some sunny days last week , put that with the fact that there’s always one of those mirrors where they paint their faces , along with the placement and smoldering type of burn , then eliminating heat sources ,smoking ,cooking , electrical sources left one thing . Mirror faced South window a few feet away , and was in direct line with the box a few inches away . The suns rays concentrated on one small spot and as the Fire smolders and burns away the cardboard ,it makes a hole then the rays aren’t touching it anymore and luckily it then went out .

  11. I have not been on a bunch lately. Been a bad last few weeks. My hound, Bleu, started going rapidly downhill a few weeks ago. Was diagnosed with a tumor on her brain. Which quickly made her go blind in one eye. Then another tumor over her abdomen pressing on her spine which quickly affected her ability to walk. Her organs were failing, she went mostly blind in the second eye and then lost all ability to use her legs. We said goodbye to her about 12 days later. She couldn’t hunt worth a shit but she was the best. Both the kids grew up with her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. There are always 2 sides of the coin/story. Some buy because we want to avoid the shortage or future taxes and then others are making it a business to capitalize. Either ways keep buying at the price you like or can afford.

  14. I think you have that a little backwards. Seeing though you are talking about me let me fill ya in. When a hunter starts out they most times mature and improve at their game... well most hunters... You see when a hunter uses the real word and “Hunts’ they usually try to pick a worthy adversary to put their wits up against and go one on one. Now many use the word “Hunter” in many ways but in my world after killing god only knows how many deer in the last 40 years....Starting out with any deer that showed itself..I now need to use the word hunt as a base to pick a deer that’s smarter than I am. Prob don’t take much but in my world going out and shooting pretty much any buck less than 120 inches is not real tough and surely not pushing me to use all the skills I have gained over the years. We Trophy hunters as you say still enjoy venison and still take their fair share of animals. They just are not Baby Bucks which it seems is all a few others can find. To each their own.

  16. Find out who has the rights. I bought a piece of property once that the rights belonged to an oil and gas company that no longer existed. The attorney was able to get that removed and the rights deeded to me.

  17. He hung them upside down and when rigor set in and they were frozen he would take them down and place a stick in the back end to keep them propped up. If you look at the second to last picture you can see the stick. I dont know why he did it but from what I was always told my grandpa had a weird sense of humor. So he probably found it funny.

  23. As someone who’s family owns a gun store trust me it has gotten much worse after November as far as ammo availability and training mostly concealed carry is at a very high demand. Also Democrats refused to condemn riots and looting on the house floor but I am sure you have already seen this in the political section and I will leave this thread to trying to source reasonable priced ammo.

  28. Town. They held water rates for many years before bumping them up finally. The winter I use much less, but everything is up since pandemic. Wife stays at home now and quit her job and I work from home. Plus the baby adds laundry and we are home instead of at work M-F, so water and electric goes up. But gas $ is way down.

  29. If it hasnt been hunted in 43 years, you can assume that the deer hunting will be pretty good. Problem is I highly doubt it hasnt been hunted. people quickly find out when a piece hasnt been hunted in a while and they will sneak on. Im sure the numbers will be alright, you just have to go in and hunt it

  37. H.R 127 being proposed with a Democratic majority in all branches and Beijing Biden signing EO’s and EA’s like a dictator is not helping prices. Along with him stating he is coming after gun right and ammo shipping, how would this not effect pricing and ammo hoarding talk about pure ignorance.

  39. Old school for me, I have used both the Bushnell and Tasco type with arbors for fifty years, the Bushnell has the expandable style while the Tasco has an individual arbor for each caliber, I would say they are both equal in performance and will get me on the Target with no fuss. Al

  42. https://empiretrail.ny.gov/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery Statewide Empire State Trail Completed New Yorkers have a new way to explore all their state has to offer with completion of the 750-mile Empire State Trail, a year-round, multi-use recreational trail for cyclists, hikers, runners, cross-country skiers and snowshoers. The trail runs from New York City through the Hudson and Champlain Valleys to Canada, and from Albany to Buffalo along the Erie Canal. Three-quarters of the trail is off-road. Projections call for 8.6 million people to use it each year. Connecting 20 existing regional trails, the Empire State Trail was created by building more than 180 miles of new off-road trail and connecting 400 miles of previously disconnected, off-road trails. There are 45 gateways and trailheads along the trail, which includes signage, interpretive panels, bike racks and benches. Navigating the trail can be done through the trails web site empiretrail.ny.gov, which includes an online map and the ability to print itinerary sheets for specific trail segments. Learn more.
