My wife managed to stumble onto this stud yesterday afternoon only 10 minutes into her first shed hunt of the season! I was pumped to see that he'd survived the orange army. I only found the match to a small one I'd picked up several weeks ago...13 points

What??? Say it ain't so Eddie. I think you've done a damn good job here as a mod. Some of the crap posted on here meant to be funny, isn't freakin funny, it's at times, borderline disgusting! I know we all have different tastes, and I'm all for the right to express yourself freely. But this is an OUTDOORS and HUNTING forum. Plenty of other places to go see, and post, off color content. Also very aware that we all have different opinions on everything! To come here and debate issues, is what a forum is all about! And part of that, is some folks will take it personal, and feelings get hurt, people get mad, and things get out of hand. There comes a point when all that is left of the "discussion" is bickering back and forth along with name calling, page after page. It gets old fast!! That is when a mod should step in to get things back on track. And we all won't always agree with the mods decision! But it is their job to MODERATE! To keep the forum content more enjoyable, to the majority of those participating. I guess perhaps I'm just an old fuddy duddy, who would rather keep our content here at a PG rating. And I am certainly NOT perfect either. But a few do push the envelope a bit. I'm not calling out anyone! As I said, it is a free site. But when it does become a 'free for all', perhaps it will be time for a few more of us to move along. As some other long time members have done recently. To the detriment of the experience here IMO. I do honestly believe that each one of us, contributing positively, with give and take, is what makes HNY a cool place to visit. And there are a vast amount of great people here.7 points

Boiled about 150 gallons yesterday. Perfect day to be in the woods! I’ll be finishing it up today (new hydrometer arrived late yesterday). Not much left to my ice castle. RO’ed 100 gallons of 3% to 6%...you can see the color difference between the raw sap, concentrate, and permeate. Collected 50 gallons of sap during the boil...added it directly to the pan as I didn’t want to listen to the generator anymore. Looks like another boil on Sunday! Happy sugaring!7 points

The picture was definitely not pleasant, but I didn't think it was removal material. But once it was removed, it shouldn't have been reposted, twice...6 points

I'll just go and say it too, I'd much rather have you as a mod than chef as a member. don't at me.5 points

It is not up to the moderators to make the board's rules it is the board owner's job to set the parameters for standards and rules, the moderator's job is to enforce them. From what I have seen you did a very good job Eddie. Al5 points

Reminder - This is a mostly family friendly site - stop the cursing / attacks. Its pretty simple, keep it clean, the site is public and I'd like to keep it as family friendly as possible for a number of reasons. If you can't express yourself without cursing constantly and/or posting inappropriate content then YOU are the problem and I'll be more then happy to remove you. Thanks, John5 points

I dug this one out of the archives....I think another unnamed member (CCBob) came up with some ‘shine that somehow made it to me, to be left at Dan’s for purification testing in his personal laboratory.4 points

I am the exact opposite, rules are not made to be broken, they are made to be followed. If you can not behave then you should be canned no excuses. All this baloney would stop in a hurry! You have a pattern here, every time one of these fiascos pops up you will have exactly the same members always involved. These are members who seem to think their self believed importance makes them untouchable, also this is the only board I have ever been involved with that allows "TROLLS" whose sole purpose of being a member of this board is to stir the pot. From where I sit this board's content has been going down hill, there are some days where there is not one single hunting related post made. Al3 points

I was out looking for sheds at the end of the year and found the fresh dead head. It was a buck I had on cam near my house. Then I got out after work last week for a few hours on public land and found the older shed and dead head, which was pretty cool and has a drop tine but it's broken off. I hope to get out again this weekend too look around and reset a stand. It's one of my favorite times of year to be out in the woods n fields.3 points

Rethink your decision.......blame it either on Biden, Cuomo or COVID-19 but hang in there.3 points

That was part of it, it spurred the initial conversation. I will Say this, I didnt/don’t want to see Eddie leave, either as a moderator or a member. I think Eddie has been doing a great job. Mistakes happen, disagreements happen, but at the end of the day, if you are unwilling to hash it out, then it is what it is. As moderators, we are supposed to follow the rules that have been laid out for the site. Even if we don’t like or agree with something that someone posted, as long as it does not cross the line, the person that posted it should not be punished, and the post should stay. If the site owner chooses to modify the rules, or overrule the moderators decisions, then so be it, it’s his site after all.3 points

He removed several posts in the today's chuckle thread posted by chef, and continued to do so for a while. I never saw them, but the idea was that they pushed the limits a little too far in what was already a pretty boundary pushing thread. We had a goal of being a family friendly forum, but I'm not sure that we are or is there an owner or mod group out there pushing this... so there is an argument that maybe it should be a free for all... but all that said, this is supposed to be a hunting forum and it seems we talk more about non-hunting than we do hunting most of the year outside of deer season. I don't think jerkman's signature helps either.3 points

I've mod'ed on a couple forums, thankless job. So I get where your at and thanks for making this place as reasonable as you could. You should still post, if they think they got a better handle on it, let em have at it.3 points

The saddle mount and the Burris FF3 arrived today. While it's definitely higher than the rib, the couple snap shots I took today at a tree stump were not as bad as I thought. Not conclusive results, but nevertheless encouraging.3 points

I'd agree, but since the politicians currently in office want to take away our scary firearms and probably all of our deadly hunting weapons if they had free reign, we need to keep the members up to date on what's happening in the political arena.2 points

I just wanted to thank you for this suggestion. I had some lead in both my 12 and 20ga A5’s from shooting slugs. I brushed those things repeatedly and got nowhere with the lead. I did the Chore Boy trick this afternoon, and both of those bores are now bright and shiny. Thanks!2 points

Well that sucks . I honestly think fasteddie did a very good job . Pretty fair and even handed. Some of the stuff posted was pretty crude. I just kept my opinion to myself and tried to ignore it . I'm not saying I'm an angel but I believe some people do go over the top for what this forum is. The few forums I mod in the past would have given a warning or two. Then permanent bans . Chronic abusers will destroy the community. Just hope this crap settles down . It's about the group as a whole not one person seeking attention.2 points

Wait, so we have 2 or 3 inactive mods and now the only active mod is going? An owner that updates the software but the home page updates are from 2019... Not a good sign for the future of this forum.2 points

Just commenting, you dont need a cantilever rib clamp on with a holographic type site. Same one is used at arms length on a handgun. With no parallax it can sit out over the barrel and still function. I run one on rifles using just the front mount base and "scout" style on a quarter rib. Truglo one is kinda high, but Aimtech makes one that clamps over a rib and is really thin over the rib. Not sure how many models they fit, and that might be a limiting factor for them.2 points

Collected 4 gallons today with 3 taps not producing much. All of the others are running solid. One tree was a solid flow out of both taps just a few mins ago as we emptied the buckets. I’m expecting a good amount for the foreseeable days based on the weather. I’ll be boiling early next week for sure.2 points

Checked this camera again the other day... as expected, deer traffic was way down. Still lots of yotes, foxes, and the occasional bobcat. Also a well timed pic of a hawk.2 points
