Sometimes when I read something, I just have to chuckle a little. This is one of those times. I have been, and continue to be a bowhunter for almost 40 years. Did my mentality suddenly change, the first time I shot a crossbow??? I certainly have never noticed a difference in solitude in the deer woods, when using a bow or crossbow. Yup... after surgeries on both shoulders, my shoulders DO hurt sometimes! But I have re-habbed my butt off to get to where I can "sometimes" draw my bow. I am, and HAVE been a bowhunter!! I like crossbow too! Is only one or the other acceptable to ME, decided upon by others I don't even know? I do care if I shoot a deer!!!! But it matters little to me if I use a bow or crossbow at this point. I've killed a whole lot of deer with a bow. First one with a recurve. I don't have to prove anything to myself, or anyone else. We are all different. We won't always agree. That is fine! No problem. Hunt your way, I'll hunt mine. But I will "NEVER" fight against another hunter, because they don't hunt the same as me. Or they use a different bow, caliber of rifle, hunt from a tree, instead of the ground..............this list is endless! United we stand. Divided we fall. Simple as that. Look around, don't need to look too far to see that hunters are a minority these days. And partly, because of the bickering amongst ourselves! We are slowly eroding what we ALL love. All because of the closed mindedness, selfishness, jealousy, and fears, of a small percentage of our own! Continue hunting how you like. Let others do the same. It's all good. Just hunting!11 points

Don't hear too many Barred Owls in my area until spring. I use their call to get turkeys to gobble on the roost before dawn. Tonight I was sitting on my deck enjoying the stars, and the piece and quiet of mother nature. Few minutes later I heard a Barred owl a long way off. Truly enjoy the call of the Barred Owl. Called back, and got a immediate response. He, think it was a male because he would challenge my every call, kept getting closer, and cutting my calls off. Started cutting his call off with just a " whooo alllllll". Last time I heard him, he was close, like next to the house close. Unfortunately, Stella, my yellow lab decided that was close enough, and started barking. Game over. So looking forward to this turkey season. It's my go to call to get a tom to reveal his location before first light.4 points

I mean even I'm tired of this debate. Nothing has changed but the new members. Isn't that telling if Belo is tired of arguing crossbows? lol edit to say it's interesting that the last few pages I skimmed seem to be 2 members who don't like eachother and nothing more. One of which doesn't even deer or archery hunt4 points
-
Crossgun huh? TFF. Many folks who enjoy crossbow usage are former archery bow hunters. Who are you to assert what should or shouldn’t be used? Somebody die and leave you in charge?4 points

And there you have it. Your last words speak volumes in today’s hunting world and will someday be its demise. The fact is that those that own their property will continue to use crossbows during bow season if that’s the only weapon they want to use regardless of want or need. State lands will again be the only lands that won’t see Xbow’s2 points
-
The opinion many have is crossgun are more effective weapons. The state needs that so they can reach harvest objectives. Being crossgun is easier that’s a great idea. The argument though is contradictory. Why not just make a buckshot season for instance coincide? The range isn’t any different. Has lots of the same features as a crossgun? It’d be less likely to miss than even a crossgun. Why not push for that? Or we could just say forget the bow season. Make it all a general season. Extend the season is another answer. So is allowing bait, God forbid Bowhunters have a mentality crossgun guys don’t. None of this is about my shoulder hurts. It’s about manipulating something to get your way. Bow hunters enjoy the solitude, look to the challenge. That’s why they want the season they worked for and love to stay the same. Be a bow hunter. Challenge yourself and use it muzzleloader season and be happy. If that not an acceptable answer you need to wonder why you want to be a “bow” hunter. Answer is you don’t. You want the easy way out. No one cares if you shoot deer. God bless you if you do. Use a bow, bow season and a gun, gun season. If crossgun ever did get allowed we shouldn’t stop there. Think about the inclusion of other things to help dec regulate numbers if that’s the sole intention. Nothing worse than someone lying or manipulating to try and shame you into agreeing with them. You need more brainpower than that. Weak argument folks. Bow guys keep it up, keep fighting2 points

Sounds like it’s a no go again. 12-13 year old kids can use them in pilot programs. Ny at its finest again. People will continue to use what they wish on their own properties. Sad how this whole state continues to go down the shitter.2 points

Wow, hit a different part of the farm, thicket just covered in trails, tracks never seen so many trails . The spot is surrounded by green fields, with trails to/from the fields every 40-50 yards , then it transitions to woods, then another field . Farmer said deer are in those fields daily . Zippo !!! I couldn’t believe it, walked the trails glassed the fields . I did find another old dump, grabbed the Mrs a new set of salt/ pepper shakers ,some bottles and a 1926 lic. Plate , she wants me to go back for an old milk can that I didn’t feel like carrying out .2 points

Coon hunting in big woods many years ago, it was around 2 AM in the morning and I had just cast my dogs and found a nice comfortable spot to relax and listen for a strike under a big white pine that had a thick carpet of needles. A couple of hundred yards away a Barred Owl started hooting, a few hundred yards away another Owl answered, then another from a different direction and another and another and another from all directions and distances. I put on a set of headphone hearing amplifiers and could still hear more Owls hooting a long way off, no telling how many there were in all but I believe I could hear at least a dozen different Owls spread out over a huge area. What was going on I do not know, I hunted those woods many times and that was the only time I heard a bunch of Owls in concert, to tell the truth it was kind of creepy. Al1 point

They do at least one burn there each year. A couple years ago they also took out a bunch of trees in one area so you can now see from I90 to Old State Rd. and vise versa. It's said they do it to stop invasive plants from taking over and to control the massive tick population in that place. There's a few guys here who take decent deer outta there just about every year.1 point

They passed to where younger hunters 12 and older can now hunt big game. That's awesome! But for older hunters, who can no longer draw a bow, you're SOL. Oh well, it is what it is. Not surprised at all, given how nothing NY does makes sense anyways. Thanks again to Rick McDermott and the Crossbow Coalition, for giving it their best shot.1 point

The cops should have been kickin' ass and takin' names before the victim even had to draw his weapon. AND, to be clear, I am pro police. I've had/have quite a few in my family. The decisions to allow this BS to happen unabated, comes from the PC pussies in command.1 point

What would happen if that man had a child in that truck ? Any parent carrying a gun and gets their car windows smashed out would have to consider ending the situation through deadly force . These are not children ,these are adults who are acting like children ,maybe mental illness is to blame ? Normal healthy human beings don't act like this.1 point
