  1. This is getting old. I don't care what others hunt with during bow season. Bow, recurve, long bow, crossbow. Go out and have fun, I know I will be enjoying life to the fullest. And If I am out hunting public land during the last few weeks or the archery season and I come across a stranger carrying a crossbow, I don't see an interior hunter. I see a friend with the same deer hunting interest as me. Together we stand, divided we fall.

  2. Completed the prep on the first of 2 budget blinds going in this year. I think I've mentioned before that my property access could change at any point, so i don't want to invest heavily. This blind was $5 all in and that was the total for the burlap. It stands 40" to all and spans about 10' from tip to tip. It'll wrap around a big tree that i have in mind. I wanted it big enough for me and my son in case he tags along this year. I'll update another pic one it's setup.

  4. Last year I posted asking information about becoming a CO. After a few months of debating with myself I decided that I dont have that type of confrontational personality needed for it. However the one thing I have always enjoyed was helping people. Ever since I was a kid I was always willing to lend a helping hand. Late last year it kind of hit me like a brick wall what it was I wanted to do. I currently work as a machinist in a factory. It pays good most of the people I can tolerate. Its just not what I want to do. I figured at 33 I better get it figured out. I worked in this field years ago and loved it but just didnt pay the bills being a non profit company. Well I have 2 interviews this week to get into the nursing field. I have the ability to take a small pay cut and make the move to a nursing assitant at a local hospital. My hope is that within 6 months of being hired on I will start taking classes to become an RN or LPN that they help pay for. As of right now I'm looking at the ICU, Special Care unit or ER as a spot to get into. However working in the hospital will allow me to figure out which field I truly want to be in. I have the support of my family and friends which helps. It's scary to think about switching careers but at the same time I cant wait for the next chapter of my life to start.

  6. I think alcohol is what makes people do stupid stuff, not weed. Have you ever seen a fight start because two guys are high? Same with driving under the influence,if anything stoners become more defensive drivers than drunk ones, that tends to go the opposite direction. I would think those trends would hold true when it comes to guns as well.

Dug out two,old milk cans, but they had holes rusted through . Also grabbed a wasp nest .

  8. Only in New York would hunters fight for less access by hunters that want to use a different legal hunting implement. The sport is dying and people here are upset that children have their own season, that people want to use a different type of bow, they want their season longer and others season shorter. I have never see a bunch of self absorbed selfish narcissistic people in my life. And they do all this using a modern bow that has no resemblance to a primitive weapon while hanging from a tree out of sight of the prey with some sort of smug self righteousness. It’s really kind of pathetic to listen to.

  10. Thanks for all the input guys, after all this I ended up going with a Sure Trac 81” wide x 16’ long 7K GVW trailer. My mind changed when I actually got my eyes on both trailers in person. The Big Tex’s deck boards are only fastened on the front, and rear, where the Sure Trac is fastened at each cross member. I prefer the angled fenders of the Sure Trac vs the rounded Big Tex fenders, and the Sure Trac is powdercoated instead of painted. I can’t go wrong either way for what I intend to use the trailer for, but that was my personal preferences. I should have it next weekend, trailers are selling like wildfire like a lot of other vehicles, etc. It has been a constant search. Traveling 155 miles to get this thing.

  12. Put the time in has become a joke. My nephew bough a bow last summer and killed a huge buck on Long Island with it. I posted the pictures in the harvest thread. Modern bows with fiber optic sights, trigger release and light weight materials are easy to shoot. The purists fought against compound bows and trigger releases years ago.

  17. I mentioned your plans to my wife who is director of research at Flaum Eye Institute, and she suggested that I offer the slightly different alternative of becoming an ophthalmic technician. Flaum currently has an internship program where they are training ophthalmic technicians - it turns out that they are in short supply and high demand. Given your background, it may be a way of meshing your existing skill set with a new career. It is patient care oriented in a clinical setting, and while a stand-alone career option, could certainly segue into becoming an RN. Check it out, and LMK if you would like me to forward you her contact information. She'd be pleased to talk to you.

  18. Do you think people that burn really would have ever answered the question truthfully when buying a gun. Burn your weed and hunt your deer and stay away from the law. If a Dr prescribed a hard painkiller and someone complains to the law they can take those guns also. If they get any number of reasons your guns are gone.

  20. I don’t find hunting with a compound any great challenge. I started in the ‘80s with a Golden Eagle , shot it fingers ,off a flipper rest with a single brass pin sight, 2117s with feathers two blade Mangus . Killed a buck my first year and most years since . Used that set up 18 years . I can pick up,the bow after months and shoot just as well as ever . One neat thing about having worked for the FD is there’s tons of hunters , and each year ,guys pick,up a bow for the first time , many kill deer their first year . We shot at work and newbies are hitting a dollar Bill at 20 yards from the get go . I know many who don’t shoot their compound till just before the season starts or sometimes after , as they wait for the rut to,hunt . Most I know started bow hunting ,because its easier to get a chance at at bigger buck . Some of you fellas are acting like you grow your own Yew tree , flint Knapp the heads , and caught the fish for the strings .

  21. Yes, yelling at the top of my lungs had no effect. Nothing to loose at that point. Ended up with a fantastic deer.

  22. Exactly. You don’t want other people in your woods regardless. So even though it is quiet... like Bow. Would not have a friggin effect on your hunting in the least...unless you are scared I am going to shoot YOUR deer... why would you give two shits who hunts those dates with a Xbow?

  23. Stopped a boat load of deer with Baaa, or whistle, not running ones though ( slugs work well though ) , and you gotta be ready to shoot fast . Ive found adding a sign also helps .

  24. They can grow outside and inside, however those growing inside would not be visible, the "inny" tumor would either be affixed to an organ or to the chest cavity. The outward fibroma atleast those I have seen don't look like that. Just my opinion.

  26. I still don't see why we need graphs and stats. , we have a slight upward trend in the recruitment of hunters, that's great. But I still have not heard one valid reason as to why we should not include crossbow in the archery season, what are you bowhunters so scared of? I have not heard one valid reason? I just don't get it. Why the kickback?

  27. Yes I agree more people are bow hunting because of increased access and bows are now easier to shoot. Just like Xbow. More access and easier to shoot. Com’on Man we heard all these arguments when compound bows came out.

  31. That's my plan. I want to go out Saturday to get this set up. I'll bring him with me to help me brush it in. Then we'll have a place big enough for him to sit with me on scouting runs. Budget blind 2 is going up in another few weeks. That one will be similar, but will have a platform about 8' up.

  34. So I agree with Tommy on Eataly they are fantastic. Le halles is a great place to get a steak with out a dress code Anthony Bourdain used to be the chef there it’s great. You want great fast food check out Stickys Finger joint. Great home made chicken tenders Carmines is a bit of a tourist trap but the food is amazing Quality meats and quality Italian are both great. If you go to quality meats let me know the chef is a very good friend of mine. He will take care of you. If you like Asian any of the Momofuku restaurants are great.... milk bar for desert..... David Chang is a bad ass chef... if anything watch him on Netflix before you go. Pm me if you have any questions about NYC food Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nursing courses and of course the the dreaded NCLEX is one of the hardest exams he’s had to take. But he has impressed me with how smart that kid is . You’ll do well, machinist are some of the smartest people I know. Best of luck to you.

  37. I'll admit to having a mental heirarchy of deer kills via implements but that lasts for maybe five seconds before reality kicks in and a big buck is a big buck. One of the mental hurdles I have is when a hunter is gun only vs a multi implement user, namely bow and gun - if they both kill the same size buck in gun, I'll think the bowhunter earned it more. Not sure why but I devalue from a bias the gun only hunter. It's just a mental hurdle for some reason. Heck the bowhunter might have been a poor bowhunter which is why he relied on gun season - but even in that I connect the effort to reward. I never let it impact my outward reaction or congrats, but I have a hard time valuing the accomplishment similarly unless I know that hunter and who they are (IE their dedication, effort, etc.). Its assumptive, generalizing, and not conducive but it is my initial gut reaction internally. Xbow blurs that line for me somehow. I support inclusion and hopefully it'll help me to assume the best in people. I know I value xbow when I was hurt in 2019...if not for that, I'd have sat inside for my rutcation. Ended up shooting a piebald. I wasn't going to let an xbow rob me of that experience. Someday I'm going to kill a deer with a self made bow and arrow set-up and do it wearing a loin cloth. LOL.

  39. Well this is the main point of contention though. Archery season was started way back in the day to create a challenge for hunters looking for it. Yes the compound has grown in technology quite a bit since the archery season began, but the essence is still supposed to be about hunter challenge. What's lost by many (outside elderly and disability) is that archery is just another season and it's only intention is to fill harvest quotas. That's not the original intent and shouldn't be now. For many the crossbow tips the scales in an already challenging world for what is increasingly a gray area where food plots, gps, trail cams, cell cams, tree stands etc have vastly changed the archery world as it was when I started just 15 years ago, let alone what it looked like decades ago upon inception. As difficult as this is for many to digest, the reward of for an archery kill, especially a mature kill is that it's really freaking hard. Keep diminishing the difficulty and the "I shot a nice 8 during archery" isn't as special anymore. This is labeled as elitest, which is a tag I've gladly accepted in past discussions because that, in my opinion is what archery is supposed to be about. The elite wanting to challenge themselves to bring a deer within 30 yards without being winded, draw without being seen and release an arrow that hits its mark. Within the rules archers can challenge themselves further with recurves, with hunting public land, with raising the floor of what they are targeting. This is hunter choice. The crossbow however for me swerves outside of the yellow lines into the oncoming traffic lane that is gun season because the range is significantly greater and there is no draw and considerably less practice to be able to hit your mark in a high pressure situation. These difference vary significantly from the differences between compound and recurve.

  40. Hot Dogs ! This was our Go To bait when fishing just for Bullheads .And you dont have to grill the hot dog either ! LOL Depending on the size of the hook you are using, and how big the Bullheads are where you are fishing . We sliced them from 1/4 to 1/2 inch depending on hook size. We rigged the line with either a slip sinker above a snap swivel or barrel swivel with the hook on a leader , or you can just use some good size split shot weights if you are tying the hook directly to the line . The kitchen gloves is a great idea for keeping the stinky slime off your hands and helps from getting harpooned by their dorsal fin dagger . Definitely need a hook remover like this cheapo plastic one . Those critters always swallow the hook and you have to pry their mouth open . They are delicious especially if you are catching them in cold water . https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Fishing-Disgorger-Remover-Snelled/dp/B08NTHZNDS/ref=cs_sr_dp?crid=3LJ33YP01MKQQ&dchild=1&keywords=hook%2Bremover%2Bfishing&qid=1617806184&sprefix=hook%2Bremover%2B%2Caps%2C158&sr=8-30&th=1

  41. There is a pond behind my parents house. When i was a kid you could go out there any time of day with some night crawlers and a sinker and as soon as it hit the bottom you had a bullhead....Only time i ever fished for them. They were always very easy to catch....Haven't been in the woods back there in 30 years....lol

  42. This statement has always struck me funny. When I was just out of college all my mom's sisters would ask me if I loved my job. That it was important to love your job. No I don't love my job. I've never loved a single job that I had. I've quit jobs that I didn't like but mostly a job is a means to an end. I enjoy many of my coworkers and I don't hate what I do. It does pay well and I do love to hunt, fish, new tech and supporting my family. And so my job allows me to "love my life". That's how I look at it anyway.

  44. The opinion many have is crossgun are more effective weapons. The state needs that so they can reach harvest objectives. Being crossgun is easier that’s a great idea. The argument though is contradictory. Why not just make a buckshot season for instance coincide? The range isn’t any different. Has lots of the same features as a crossgun? It’d be less likely to miss than even a crossgun. Why not push for that? Or we could just say forget the bow season. Make it all a general season. Extend the season is another answer. So is allowing bait, God forbid Bowhunters have a mentality crossgun guys don’t. None of this is about my shoulder hurts. It’s about manipulating something to get your way. Bow hunters enjoy the solitude, look to the challenge. That’s why they want the season they worked for and love to stay the same. Be a bow hunter. Challenge yourself and use it muzzleloader season and be happy. If that not an acceptable answer you need to wonder why you want to be a “bow” hunter. Answer is you don’t. You want the easy way out. No one cares if you shoot deer. God bless you if you do. Use a bow, bow season and a gun, gun season. If crossgun ever did get allowed we shouldn’t stop there. Think about the inclusion of other things to help dec regulate numbers if that’s the sole intention. Nothing worse than someone lying or manipulating to try and shame you into agreeing with them. You need more brainpower than that. Weak argument folks. Bow guys keep it up, keep fighting

  46. Reminder - This is a mostly family friendly site - stop the cursing / attacks. Its pretty simple, keep it clean, the site is public and I'd like to keep it as family friendly as possible for a number of reasons. If you can't express yourself without cursing constantly and/or posting inappropriate content then YOU are the problem and I'll be more then happy to remove you. Thanks, John
